I realize we were light in the pants but you said they were midgets, and they're not midgets they're normal height or taller than most OL but our OL just aren't big fatties.
11 months, 1 week ago on How the Hiring of Jay Gruden Affects the Draft
Watch the tape, Chester was one of the worst guards in the NFL. He really regressed this year and was often responsible for the big hits Griffin took while standing in the pocket.
He's also our second highest paid offensive lineman behind Trent, and because of that he's held to a higher standard than Monty, Kory L and Polumbus in my eyes.
If we're paying a guard 4.3 million a year, he should be playing like a pro bowler - not one of the worst guards in the NFL.
We can cut him with no dead money and go out and sign us a younger guard like Jon Asomough, Geoff Schwartz or most likely Mike Pollak from Cincinnati.
I'm not sure who the midgets are, but all the OL Shanahan drafted or signed in his 4 years are 6'2 to 6'5, so I hardly call them midgets and Polumbus is 6'8. I had no clue that midgets were 6'8 lol!
Also, don't forget that if Jordan Reed had stayed healthy and started all 16 games or even just 14, he likely would have caught 80-90 balls, 900-1000 yds and 5+ tds
Just for Giggles...
If the Hankerson had stayed healthy, and Morgan had been played by the Shanahan's the Redskins would have had 5 receivers over 40 receptions. Just saying.
I fully expect us to sign a FA wr and draft a bigger stronger guy to develop: Kelvin Benjamin, Brandon Coleman, Donte Moncrief and L'Damian Washington are probably on their radar screen.
I fully expect us to get a few new OL, 4 new starters though? I'm not so sure.
I hope they can sign Andre Collins and Mike Pollak to be their new starting right side. I think the Redskins current OL (except for Chester) are kept as reserves and to compete for reserve roster spots.
LeRibeus actually may fit Grudens scheme better than he did Shanahans. I'd look out for him as a surprise starter at RG.
We could also draft an OL or two.
It will be interesting as we also could use an upgrade or 2 along the DL, a new ILB to replace Fletch, a new starting Cb or nickel cb depending on if they re-sign Hall and if they think Amerson can start, and I think try need a new starting FS
He hasn't been tied to any of the Redskins personnel moves. I'd say that's quite different than when Vinny was here.
Anyone that doesn't think Mike Shanahan was running the entire football operations show doesn't understand how egotistical Shanahan was and they're just blind haters who want to hate Dan Snyder for no reason.
He's done exactly what we've wanted him to do for 14 years.
Have a GM who has control and final say, then have experienced and respected personnel guys below him.
11 months, 3 weeks ago on A Brief (Ish) Rant: Redskins Owner Dan Snyder Gives Fans Front Office They Want; Fans and Media Complain Anyway
"Apparently" great assumption
This is exactly what I thought as well when I was listening to the junkies on 106.7 the Fan this morning.
They were complaining and complaining about the Skins not bringing in a GM from outside the organization or whatever.
Bruce Allen has been executive of the year and been a great front office guy for nearly two decades and been around NFL football since he was with his dad on the sidelines in the 70s.
Campbell has worked on our drafts for a long time and has worked with our scouts to determine who to select, even those selections Mike Shanahan selected.
Morocco Brown has interviewed for GM jobs and other jobs around the league. He's been a known rising star in our front office for years and I heard he was instrumental in determining Pierre Garçon was the WR we should sign and give a big contract to in 2012. Last time I checked, most questioned it, I know I did and all Garçon did was break the season receptions record for the franchise in a year when our passing game was average.
I'm glad at what's taken place. We have a true front office. We have three guys who I believe will work well together. We also have an experienced front office person who's helped build championship team who will have the final say, instead of a head coach who's had a poor track record with personnel decisions ever since he started controlling that for the broncos in 99.
So, within a year we are now doubting "if" RG3 has the "will" to be the very best Qb he can be?
He doesn't need pushed. The man pushes himself and is harder on himself than anyone else could ever be.
And I think last weeks game, and last years game vs the browns proves the fact that RG3 is a good teammate and wants us to win and he wants to learn. He was excited for Kirk and the guys and going over pictures and talking to Kyle on the bench.
1 year ago on Hold your breath and grip your armrests as Kirk Cousins starts for the Redskins
I hope Kirk plays well enough that we can trade him for a 2nd round pick.
As far as him leading the team to victories - I don't see it!
The problem with the Redskins is more the talent infront of RG3, the deactivating of Fred Davis, the injuries to Reed and Hank and how poorly the special teams and defense has played.
Inserting Kirk Cousins is not going to make the team win, but I do hope Kirk plays well, eventhough I'm in RG3's camp. I know and want Rg3 to be the future of this franchise.
Yet Norv went on to be better than any other coach we hired since him. He went to the playoffs a lot in SD and even won a few games, once getting to the afccg
1 year ago on Mike Shanahan’s Brilliant Last Act as Redskins Coach; Making Everyone Forget He Sucked
That's because he's 24-37 now! ;)
I have to say I'm concerned. Not only does Washington struggle to make the playoffs after slow starts, but they also struggle to historically make the playoffs in back to back years.
Rg3 is going to have to break a lot of trends again, if he wants to lead this team to the playoffs again.

1 year, 3 months ago on Four reasons why Pat White is on the Redskins roster
Monday night 2010. Mcnabb, Trent Williams' and the Shanahans' debut in a big win over Dallas. I thought for sure after that game we were going to have a strong season and bright future with the Shanahan's and McNabb. It's still Unbelievable to me how it all unraveled so quickly the second half of that season
That's fine, but we all know Cousins isn't getting traded now, but for hits on your website, a story like this makes sense. Carry on
The team would take any young prospect that could make the team or late round/conditional pick for Pat White as anything they would get for him or someone likeRoyster would be gravy
1 year, 3 months ago on Pat White's presence on the Redskins roster could mean Kirk Cousins is a goner.
If we trade Cousins in March for a late 1st or 2nd round pick, it would allow us an extra high pick to spend on a RT, ILB, DB, WR or DE for our future.
Rambo, Amerson,Jarvis Jenkins and Hankerson are going to have play extra special for me not to believe that this team shouldn't consider drafting another FS, CB, DE or WR or develop I round 2 and 3. Then, you have the ILB which needs a real upgrade in depth and Fletcher will probably retire.
I think the Redskins need Cousins this year because of the question marks surrounding RG3 currently but they should feel comfortable moving Kirk next March if Griffin is healthy all year.
Trade Cousins after this season. THey need him now. No team will trade for Grossman with his age and inconsistencies but Pat white may bring us back a conditional late round pick because his age, read option abilities and skills that can still be developed as a passer
Thompson will make the team because of his return game. I really can't say that Keiland or Royster will make it, but if their coming down to the best 53 and need someone for special teams, I'd think either one of them would make it over some other other players.
1 year, 3 months ago on Washington Redskins 53-Man Roster Projection; Who Makes It and Who Doesn’t?
Our RBs are better special teams players than Lance Lewis. Also, lance Lewis is likely to clear waivers to be out on the practice squad should he be cut. Thompson would be a risky cut and if we cut Keiland Williams, he can't be put on the practice squad
I think Lance Lewis also and he should clear waivers so we can put him on the practice squad after we cut him
They're doing the same with Adam Carriker, in hopes he can play the second 1/2 of the season
I found out that Maurice Hurt hasn't even practiced, let alone played in a game. He's on the PUP list and I believe they will leave him there and stash him there for depth for the first 1/2 of the season, then decided 1/2 way through the season what to so with him
Tony Pashos can't be a swing tackle. In 10 years, he's never played LT. Compton and Polumbus are swing tackles.
It's a shame about Maurice hurt, has even played this preseason?
Could they possibly put him on the injured reserve list?
I also think Will Compton will be on the practice squad and Dominique Hamilton
I think when Jarvis Jenkins and Rob Jackson come off the suspended list, the team cuts Phillip Merling and Lance Lewis.
Lewis will clear waivers and go onto the practice squad
I gotta say I agree with all of it.
I don't see think LeRibeus or Gomes have done enough to make the team this far.
I think Josh Wilson is still our starting Qb opposite the "gambler" DHall. Wilson is still the teams best cover cb, he just doesn't have the size or natural athleticism that Hall and Amerson do, but Wilson doesn't gamble as much
I want Pat white to make the team also, but with the question marks surrounding Griffin and now even Cousins, I think we must keep Rex! Sadly, because of that, I don't see White making the roster. If Kirk hasn't hurt his foot, I would have been comfortable in cutting Grossman in favor of White, but not now.
Right now Chris Thompson looks like a practice squad player to me. I hated his selection in the draft, I thought he was a 7th rounder or FA type, given his injury history and sadly- it's proven to be true. Unless he can get the ball on the edges, he seems useless. He's not going to be a Sproles type player for us and even at this point, it doesn't seem he has the gifts that Banks had. I think this team needed ILB depth, not more mid round RBs and that goes for Jordan Reed also- I would have rather seen us take an ILb in round 3. Our TEs did fine in 2012 even with Davis' injury.
Nick Williams- I could care less.
There are only two WRs who have a chance to make this roster as the 6th WR and that's Lance Lewis and Dez Briscoe. Each of them have to play a lot better the last two games to make that happen though.
Ultimately, I see us keeping 5 wrs and putting Lance Lewis and Skye Dawson on the practice squad

I know I've talked about LeRibeus at length before. I don't know if I predicted him not making the team but nice always thought that Gettis was better for our system. I mean the Leribus pick still just kills me!
1. Brooks (I honk his name is) from Miami of Ohio was better and I believe he is starting on the Texans now
2. We left Brandon Taylor S from LSU on the board, other DB prospects, Rt prospects and LB prospects
1 year, 4 months ago on T’s Three Things: Steelers at Redskins
I do agree. This is not the time for RG3 to talk to McNabb. The resin though is not because of McNabb- it's because of the Shanahan's. it was a marriage that didn't work out and it became personal and as long as the Shanahans are here, McNabb and RG3 won't speak because RG3 isn't going to mess up his relationship with his coaches

1 year, 4 months ago on Mobile Report Wednesday: Redskins magazines, receivers, contracts and dead apps
Given Washington Redskins former quarterback Donovan McNabb's comments today that RgIII is being "brainwashed" by the Shanahans, he is obviously still hurt from how it all ended for him in Washington and hasn't come to peace with the fact that when he came to DC he was all but done as a starter in the NFL. All that being said, while I don't condone Mcnabb's term of "brainwash," when referring to the Shanahan's development of RGIII, he does have a point to a certain extent.
If RGIII didn't play for the Shanahan's who are the only coaches in the nation that we know of who hate McNabb, RGIII would talk to him I'm sure. RGIII is in a tough spot, I'm sure he'd love talk to McNabb, who I'm sure he patterned some of his game after as a younger player but because the Shanahan's made McNabb out to be the bad guy when their horrible 2010 trade for McNabb didn't work out as planned, RG3 knows he can't talk to McNabb.
People seem to forget who brought McNabb to DC. Mike Shanahan wanted McNabb to lead this team in 2010 and I'm sure his original plan would have had McNabb still being the Redskins quarterback today. Mike Shanahan wanted McNabb, not the other way around. Shanahan and Allen up 2 high draft picks to get McNabb in 2010. Those selections could have been important pieces to rebuilding the Redskins in 2010 and 2011. Kyle seemed to have a vendetta against McNabb the first time they met, it just seemed Kyle was never on board with the trade. With the offensive coordinator not being on board from the get go, the move to get McNabb was doomed from the start. From all accounts, Kyle wasn't asked by his father first about the move and Kyle was never on board.
I still can't believe the Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen were naive enough to think that adding an aging McNabb with some other veterans onto the Redskins 4-12 team would result in the Redskins being a playoff team. The redskins ran a whole media campaign and advertising campaign around McNabb from April until September and then 6 months after the trade he's the bad guy?
As long as RGIII is the quarterback of the Washington Redskins, I do not see him having a conversation with Donovan McNabb, but that's not to say when RGIII's career is over as well that he won't reach out to McNabb.
What past success?
Rex was the worst Starting Qb this franchise had since Heath Shuler and at least Heath was young when he was here. Rex was a vet when we signed him
1 year, 4 months ago on Film Sessions: Pat White’s Good (But Completely and Utterly Overrated) Preseason Game
Amen JC. Amen
I think people just want Rex gone, me included. I don't care if we even carry a 3rd qb, but, all I know is I'm tired of the Rex Grossman experience. I can't watch Rex play anymore, at least Pat White brings some excitement, unlike Rex who you just watch and wait for him to make a horrible decision which leads to a horrible turnover
Helu is healthier than the guy that many people thought would replace him- Chris Thompson, who's barely practiced all offseason and didn't just have a foot issue the last two years. He had a broken back in 2011 and a torn acl in 2012, which it doesn't seem he's recovered from.

I think we go 11-5 this year. I don't see us losing to the Bears or Vikings. The Bears aren't going to be as good w/o Urlacher, and Idonije on their defense. I think they'll be a 9 or 10 win team that we beat at home
1 year, 4 months ago on 2013 Redskins Predictions
Great, great blog man. I've written similar things about Merling, but you had some info I didn't know about how Pasqualoni played him inside on passing downs. I think Merling does have something left and I think it was a hard transition for him as a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 DE, it takes time to make that transition, unless you're JJ Watt. Lol
Then he blows out his achillies and it sets him back even more. With Carriker likely going on the pup and possibly Izr if he isn't ready yo play mid season, Merling has a golden opportunity to make this team and possibly even push Jarvis Jenkins for more playing time.
1 year, 5 months ago on Phillip Merling’s Last Chance
Fair enough, but the D still sucks now. It's not a championship D which is what they used to have and they don't have a runner like Corey Dillon
1 year, 5 months ago on Biggest questions heading into the NFL season
I think I was since they last won a Super Bowl their running game hasn't been the same and in 2001 Smith shared the duties with Faulk & Redmon who had nearly 300 YDs
I didn't say he was bad, I said the running game isn't what it once was when the Pats were winning Super Bowls.
The problem with the Patriots isn't the passing offense, it's other parts of the team. Tom IMO is the best Qb in the league and he will succeed as long as he gets protected (the guys never been hit much) and his wrs can get open and catch, he's proven that throughout his career.
The problem is that it's a team game and the Patriots running game isn't what it once was, their defense isn't close to as good as when they won it last and had players like Vrabel, Bruschi, Milloy, Law, Seymour and Samuel and their return game hasn't been the same since the days of Troy brown.
So yeah, they will win their cup cake division and at most have 4 losses and probably get a home playoff game or 2, but unless their D and running game do a 180 this year, I don't see them winning it all.
I would like to mention not having Hernandez and Gronk (for some of the year) will hurt, Welker gone will hurt, but Amendola, Edleman and Ballard are certainly capable of being good recieving weapons in the NFL. Michael Jenkins, Donald Jones can possibly be decent and Dobson and Boyce have a lot of talent as rookies.
That being said, Patriot fans can not just chalk this off as Tom will fix everything this year because I believe there are too many problems to overcome
Luck has his best WR getting old, his #2 is gone and replaced by hey-bey who's always been an enigma and his offensive coordinator is gone who was not only responsible for getting Luck ready, but did a lot to make Roethlisberger the great passer he is today.
I guess I agree with you about Wilson but something just tells me the Seahawks are going to have a down year
Redskins weren't a Cinderella?
1 year, 6 months ago on Jets are in trouble at QB position according to reports
*beat up like a running back* people are right when they say he won't make it into his 30s if he keeps playing the way he did last year, he must adjust and be smarter. Get down, slide, get out of bounds, throw the ball away! If I was the Shanahans I'd be working like crazy with RG3 on those 4 things. Sometimes the what play is to throw it away, slide or get out of bounds
1 year, 6 months ago on Film Sessions: Did Robert Griffin III Get Hurt Running The Read-Option?
Good post man. The only thing I'd say is, I'd like to see RG3 run less. He ran the ball more than any other QB in history last year and yes, the cumulative hits took a toll on his body. He was best up like a running back all year.
I totally, totally agree with you guys about the passing game though. He needs to get more comfortable and patient in the pocket and not look to scramble to much. His problem is he tries to do too much, which is admirable, we all like that about him but sometimes you have to be patient, trust in your teammates to make you look good and make plays also.
Great write up. I'll say this. I believe the Redskins need to use the read option less and throw the ball more than they did last year especially because if the multiple serious injuries RG3's right knee has now endured. I do not believe the read option protects a qb. When a qb chooses to run, he is then a running back and is open o mor injury.
I definitely agree that RG3 needs to learn to protect himself better. He needs to get out of bounds and slide, just like Kapernick and Wilson do more often than he does. He needs to quit trying to make every play a splash play and try to get things that aren't there. I think he's learned that he's not invincible and not super man now.
So the Shanahan's can protect him by not making him a ball carrier 120 times a year and Griffin needs to get out of bounds, slide and get down sooner. He also needs to start thrown in the ball away when people aren't open instead of running around a lot behind the line of scrimmage.
I believe it will happen, it's a collective effort. I expect Griffin to carry the ball less than 100 times in 2013 and throw the ball at least 50 times more.
Jason Campbell in 2008 and 2009 threw the ball 506 & 507 times.
Rg3 threw the ball only 393 times. Thy need to throw more.
He's been my favorite player since we traded for him. For once I wish Marty had listened to Snyder and drafted Moss over Gardner. It would have been awesome to have Moss and Coles together.
Yeah, I wish we would get him the ball more also. When you don't throw the ball much though, not many balls will go to any wrs.
If moss hadn't hurt his hand in 2011, I'm convinced he would have caught over 70 balls for over 1000 YDs and 5+ Tds
When healthy, he's a tough WR for Defenses to start. Always has been
1 year, 6 months ago on Film Sessions: Santana Moss 2012 All Regular Season Targets and Catches
