I'm going to add a #13... I know... it's against the 12 Most rules... HA ...probably means I'm doing #14 Ignore Forum Rules :)
Be vague and incoherent. Make sure your point of view is obfuscated by riddles, biblical quotes and random references to Wikipedia.
I've got this one guy... he's really quite harmless so I don't block him, but... WOW. I can NEVER understand what his point is.
@RachelintheOC @sharongreenthal You know what? I teach a lot of beginner social media classes and sometimes the students think they're great... to receive! Usually they've lucked out by getting a link to a paper/article that is actually relevant to them. Then I explain how they've been abused and they promise to never do it themselves.
Great story. My scapegoats are my kids & husband LOL
I have a Google Alert set for my name, too... just makes good sense. There seems to be only one other Anita Hovey and she's an author, so it's pretty easy to filter. I didn't know that alerts were being shuttered... missed that announcement. Guess I'll check out this other one now...too bad.
@Sean McGinnis or anyone could do it pretty easy by having the code link to surveymonkey.
Boston Pizza does the same thing...I don't remember if the prize is that big though. Problem was I didn't have a QR reader on my phone, so I had to download it in order to participate. Not everyone would want to, or have space (problem with my previous phone). All in all, I agree, not a bad use of them.
Anita
Great advice. I'm already part way there... no PowerPoint... I use Prezi.com and my slides are punctuation, not word for word. I'm focusing on one thing pretty well... now what I need is a speaking coach. I like the idea of taking performance classes too. I might look into that.
Ironically, I actually deleted Cityville two days before this was published...another lesson...addiction CAN be overcome!
Ok. I'm in! Where am I going?
What's really scary is that we only see a small portion of it... we happen on it or there's an accidental pingback link left in. Makes me wonder if my own stuff is floating around out there and I don't even know.
@ShawnUpchurch I'm curious about your position. I'm no legal mind for sure, but if you accept advertising on your blog, or it is a mechanism for increasing sales, isn't the simple act of using someone else's content to fill your blog, attributed or not, "for the purpose of commercial gain?"
I'm with Peggy, I think you should have permission before you reuse someone's articles. Perhaps the author doesn't want to be associated with your blog or company.
@biggreenpen and patience!!
Love it. Thanks for sharing. I'm using Disqus on my site so I'm going to see if they have a Bozo function...if not, perhaps I'll switch to Livefyre.
@EricaAllison I love this philosophy :)
@Soulati | B2B Social Media Marketing Thanks! I do love my branding :)
@EricaAllison That child is adorable...he has an acting career...or political career, ahead for sure.
Great idea...I decided to focus more on positive things this year, too, and just posted on my blog about it this week: http://twirp.ca/2013/01/winning-week-1-the-telus-monkey-responds
And I agree... @PegFitzpatrick is definitely the most pervasively positive person on the planet ;)
Interesting. I'm really surprised so many people are breaking up with Twitter for Facebook. I'm still a huge Twitter user and Facebook for me right now is about Cityville (Yeah I feel yer pain). I'm happy with a business presence on both, but for personal interaction I gravitate to Twitter where I can get instant answers when I need them. I guess that's why they keep inventing new networks...we all want something different.
