My wife told me what to do and I did that thing.

This is the first year I have set long and short term goals for my blog and personal life as well. I'm excited to see if I can stick to them but I feel like I am already ahead for having done them at all. Normally i just have a couple things I would like to do but put no effort in to planning how I will accomplish any of it. Cheers to 2014!!

@Danny Brown @ginidietrich I like your ways better. Maybe I'll try that the next time I get a "Dear Mommy Blogger" pitch.

@EdenSpodek Haha, mine luckily never went through that phase. On the other hand, there was In The Night Garden...

@EdenSpodek Did you read all 267 of my blog posts? LOL.
Phew, I was ready to hand in my buff and do the walk of shame out of here! And, don't worry, kids aren't reading any of this yet. Maybe if you threw up some Caillou videos or something...
Holy crap, I hope that's not how you took that because I was specifically talking about kids. I think you have a duty to post those rants because people come to your site for education on those topics. That's why I'm here ;D
I agree on your part. I blog about inspiring engaged fatherhood and teaching our children to be kind to the world and each other, so the rant didn't fit the mold of my site. I do enjoy reading it on other sites though, lol, so keep up the great work!
Thanks! Checking it out now.
and *while* most don't respond...
Funny story, if you have the time. I got mad about it once and wrote about my distaste for those pitches, and then someone commented that instead of getting mad, I should try to educate them. Ever since that day, I have always replied back politely, as my Canadian blood would dictate, and most don't respond, I have converted about 20% of those emails into business. That woman was a genius, lol.
Haha, my favourites are the ones that begin with, "As a Mom..."
I was glad to see you gave InNetwork the thumbs up. I was just chosen for my first campaign with them, and as a blogger, it felt good to be targetted with a specific campaign that fit the scope of my writing. 95% of the time the pitches are mass produced and do not apply to me.
My question, can you recommend a couple of other companies with a model similar to InNetwork's? I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end for those mass produced, impersonal pitches. I'm sure it's been covered already but I am a slow typer ;D Thanks!
I've only been at this for just over a year but my typical strategy is that I have a pad of paper next to me while I am at work. As the day goes on, I write everything that pops into my head on the pad and bring it home with me. Once the kids are asleep, I take out that day's sheet of paper, open up my Wordpress, and start expanding on my handwritten notes. It's what works for me and I am totally with Gini on the crafting in Wordpress thing, for all the same reasons she listed. (Sorry, I can't tag from work because we are in the stoneages here)

I don't think I can make it this afternoon but I'm curious to hear Danny's thoughts on Triberr. I feel like it was a decent idea but that Twitter is so oversaturated with people abusing it now, that it has lost it's original purpose. Unless, of course, the original purpose was to flood my timeline with endless "via" tweets. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.
I find this is extremely common in the parenting blogging sector. Some of the bloggers have gotten so big that they could literally post anything and everyone will gush over how amazing it is, even if it makes no sense whatsoever. I'm not going to lie, I think about what it would be like to be able to do no wrong. It sounds kind of glorious, but, possibly, completely unfulfilling as well. Great stuff, Bob, and also, I like how you didn't lose your Canadiana and included the "u" in honour! Also, also, I have no idea why I notice things like that...

@biggreenpen Hah, I'm also a quick learner ;D I find diving in blind is always the best way to learn something new. We'll see what happens here but I'm looking forward to the ride!

@EdenSpodek I have absolutely no reply to that, except, Thank You. Probably one of the kindest things anyone has ever said to me. How am I just finding this place now? @belllindsay
@EdenSpodek I just realized it was my work place that was blocking me from replying properly. Thanks!
@ginidietrich That's what'll keep me here ;D
Thanks, @JoeCardillo! I'm happy to be here. This seems like an amazing community.
Thanks! The people at Merriam-Webster disagree with us. ;)
Haha, nice welcome to the site! I don't even know how to tag people yet, which makes this even more terrifying because of the noobness oozing out of me. I'll figure it out though and then you'll be begging me to shut up, haha!
I just had the pleasure of meeting @EdenSpodek at Social Capital in Ottawa last weekend and her kindness is one of the things that stuck with me the most. You know when you are talking to someone and you can tell that they genuinely want to be there talking to you and not waiting for you to finish so they can move on? She reminded me of the genuine person and I appreciated it. Also, she's the reason why I am commenting here for the first time, so she's got that going fo rher too ;D
I attended Aidan's session as well and took away exactly what you write here. As far as the vlogging goes, I like watching other people putting themselves out there. Despite what viewers think, it takes a lot of courage to put yourself in front of the camera for all to see and judge. I am working on starting up my own feature and I know that it won't appeal to everyone but I am looking for something new to take me out of my comfort zone and this definitely fits the bill! Great, great recap, btw!

It's funny, I probably wouldn't be blogging right now had the name Canadian Dad not been surprisingly available 5 months ago. I'm so glad it was because I love pretty much everything about my new blogging "career". The relationships I've made are incredible and there are so many great blogs to read that I constantly have information overload. It's made me a better Dad for it and that's the most important part of it for me!
