I wish the injury was just bad enough to keep him out of the olympics. I won't be able to enjoy games involving France, Argentina, or Brazil.

I was disappointed to learn that under the current CBA players have to wait a year to rejoin a team that trades them if they are bought out. I had hoped the Spurs could trade Jackson's expiring contract to a bad team for a young big man or a draft pick and then resign him after he is bought out.  Can you imagine a team in that scenario trying to make him stay?

I think the Spurs wanting Batum was a creation of Batum's agent. Now if only we could get Joakim Noah to demand a trade to the Spurs. Captain Jack and Blair for Noah would match on salaries. Please???

It is 100% about hype. Not much exciting about  fitting seamlessly into a winning system and playing your role. If I was an unbiased voter I might have put Faried second just because everyone loves an underdog. Plus, of the four players it would mean the most to Faried since he is the least likely to ever make an all-star team. Kawhi could be an All-Star in the next year or two. What western conference SF will beat him out for the honor of backing up Durant?

None of these players would be a better fit with the current Spurs. The point guards would be backing up Tony, and Faried is a dreaded undersized 4. How did so many teams miss on Kawhi? What did PATFO see that no one else did? Kawhi should have been the second pick in the draft.

@jtshoopsblog  @Emicris  @JohnAbney We only request that you make logical arguments. If you are going to criticize the team at least base your comments on reality.  As Spurs fans that take the time to read team blogs, we come here to have discussions with people with intelligent opinions of the team. You are not a troll because you are insulting the team. You are a troll because you are incoherent, and simply wasting everyone's time.

@jtshoopsblog  @JohnAbney Did you read JohnAbney's comment? He was talking about Kawhi's defense. Your response is that Kawhi is not a factor in the offense?

@jtshoopsblog  @JohnAbney I doubt he thought about Kawhi at all last year. Unless he is a big San Diego State fan.

@SpurGuy  @AlvinPatacsil I guess Spurguy hasn't heard of Defensive win shares or adjusted plus minus. http://www.48minutesofhell.com/a-stat-for-bruce-bowen

Batum has all the physical tools that Bowen compensated for with working harder and being smarter than his opponent. The fact that Batum doesn't play good defense means that he is either lazy or has a low basketball IQ. For example of Anthony Davis never blocked shots you would look at him and think. Why? That doesn't mean that you have to be a good shot blocker to be a good defender.

If he is lazy, maybe the Spurs could make him care. If it is a basketball IQ issue... you can't fix stupid.

Right now the Spurs have a 20 year old who is already bigger, stronger, and a better player than Batum. How would Batum handle being a backup?

@AlvinPatacsil History of shoulder injuries is something that can't be disputed. Lack of strength... have you looked at the guy? Weak handle and no post game are both pretty easy to see.  Does he often take it to the rack, or create for others? Does he often call for the ball in the post, and then score on someone? So far all we know is someone said the Spurs are interested. How many times have agents made up that rumor to increase interest in their client?

Hollinger's bullet points on Batum are concerning: + Long, slender combo forward with history of shoulder injuries. Lacks strength. + Can catch and shoot. Weak handle and no post game, but can run floor and finish. + Length makes him defensive factor, but has posted awful defensive numbers.

I doubt Batum would enjoy being Kawhi's backup. The only Blazer the Spurs should want is Aldridge.... unless Batum is capable of playing shooting guard.
