I don't think the days of poke/stretch are numbered, it's been around for ages, in the same way the tucked look has. The car scene is cyclical, things don't die off, they just have a lull or less people do something and another old trend picks back up. Like brightly coloured wheels and matching your mirrors in colour etc, that was a massive early 90's thing and it looks to be making a come back.
LOL at the need to come in here just to have a cry!
@PaddyMcGrathThanks, I had read that somewhere before....I will keep it in mind if I ever get over there.
@Driveitlikeyoustoleit No doubt they're amazing, I never said they weren't! A beaten record is a beaten record though, 1 week, 10 years, doesn't matter(are you sure it's been 8 years though, I thought it was fairly back and forth?). But the PR's definitely know what they're doing, absolutely no doubt about that!!!
I'd love to make it over for this one year. Do all these cars arrive a week early and hang around all week and also for the actual event.....or is the week leading up to the actual event the better time to be there. Confused!?!?!?
@S Candela It doesn't say Australia specifically, it says Australasian region and it doesn't just specifiy drag cars. If you yourself have ever been to Australia or NZ you'd know our drag cars, show cars, street cars etc within the rotary world are extremely good as a whole.....but it didn't say best, it said some of the best. Maybe read properly before you get defensive!
@Alex Rios I actually like the Equips for something different, and think they suit it well. However if you knew you were having a photoshoot for one of the biggest car blogs on the net, wouldn't you get the rear tyres redwalled to match the front.....it's the little things!!!
Those of you mentioning that it was an interesting 'colour choice' obviously didn't read that the TE37RT's only come in RED, no choice about it. I can't picture the combo in my head, hit or miss is right as K's said, but I'm interested to see how they look when mounted.
I think because the Japanese always mark rims as 8J, 9J, 10J etc people feel they need to add the J as it makes them seem more JDM. Who knows, but I'm also noticing it a lot in for sale ads or just random mentioning of wheel widths too.
I absolutely love this Caddy....but I'd love it just that little bit more if the rear diff was shorter and those amazing Futura's had more dish!
3DSM.....3SDM, which for someone into wheel porn I'd have thought you'd have heard of them. Their 0.05's(pictured) are awesome and very well priced. Nice coverage and shots, love the 2002!!!
Some people have no option. Such as those of us in some Australian states where air ride is illegal(go QLD!).....so while it is an option, you run the risk of defects, so in the case of which is better, I guess coilovers/static due to the fact that you can get away with it with a simple wind up and clear the defect at stock height. You can't pump the bags up to stock height to clear the defect because the bags are still there and still illegal. So there's another side to the argument to take into account.
I was there on the 23rd, and it's funny you mention the police closing it down because of the Bozo's or the vans crammed with stereo gear. Well the police shut it down due to the latter reason that night, but it was interesting watching them try to out do each other with the decibels, and one of the smaller vans was by far the loudest and had it's own performer dancing to his beats.
It wasn't the best night to be there with Japan playing Aus in the baseball, or at least thats why we thought it was a bit quiet, but there were plenty of stereo vans, a bit of a Ferarri group and FD RX7 gathering, plus the usual sort of others you might expect dotted around . Certainly not as busy as it looks here, but not far off either......however I was just glad to go and see the place!!
Midnight purple 33 on bronze CE28N's is pretty well identical to one I owned a few years ago, very nice!!
Damn I hate seeing stuff like this after having just been somewhere!
What night was this on?
I spoke to the guy at the Moon booth for a while at the show on Saturday, but I suppose he'd have no reason to have mentioned this cruise to me. Pity too because it ended up right near the hotel I was staying at and I remember walking past that Home Center....it'd have been great to see these cars out!!! Japan has easily the most diverse car scene of any country, so cool.
You covered my 2 favourite cars of the show, and funnily enough, both utes and both with the GTR-esque fronts......the Sunny and the Might Boy, I was in love with both. It's great to have actually attended a show like this, although smaller than I thought, it was still great!
I'm glad I went the Saturday afternoon(which wasn't planned) rather than the Sunday morning. The view of the line up from my hotel window looked as if some department store was having a 99% off everything sale, it was huge and would have taken hours to get in, I probably wouldn't have bothered lining up!!!!
I hate to hate(because I'm not a hater normally), but that Castrol themed 616 is beyond me......brushed on paint, really? Also if going for a track theme, maybe the "for shows only" ride height should have been wound up a touch and semi's might have been a better choice over 155's stretched onto those wheels. I liked it better before, way, way better!!!
Other than that, more great coverage and more great cars, go NZ....but it seems Simmons are more popular than in Oz! ;)
Interesting to see a Mazda Familia(1200) grille on that blue 2 door Kenmeri.....needs to be straightened up a little though.
