very true. its like choosing a slower, more expensive, but sleek, hp laptop over a slightly less modern-looking, but faster and cheaper, toshiba laptop. if you care about your devices, you'd make the right choice.
"they can do it anyway they want" and "there is nothing wrong with this ad" are two completely different comments. they are free to express whatever they want in their own ads, but that doesn't mean they're doing it right. for example, you said "they are advertising for power users, knowledgeable users, and people who don't have a clue how to use a can opener." no offence, but that's stupid... an ad that show's off minute features such as "palm touch mute pause" is not marketed towards the same users. electronic idiots and power users are completely different markets, and the bottom half of this ad only attracts one of them... obviously we know there is more to come. that part is true, but saying nothing is wrong with this ad is false. it is shitty advertising if you are in the "knowledgeable" or "power" market. but then again, most of us already know why the s3 is FUCKING BEAST and dont need stupid ads
yeah there are tons of irrelevant iphone features that could be added to this list. this ad would only attract the ignorant. the s3 is better for many other reasons
Which specific ROM did you flash? I always had a hard time finding the right one. I tried out 3 over 2 years on my MyTouch before I found a stable one: GingerYoshi.
@Haloruler64 I have the Tmobile s2, but I want an official ics release. My old mytouch3g was so frustrating to root and flash and crash a few months later and flash again. I dont want to root and flash anything on this phone
just one more reason why the s2 NEEDS ICS DAMN IT
i figured that was a big reason for the rounded design
@JanisVaivars lolwut? Your reply didnt make sense... You're accusing me of listing out "things that aren't supposed to be round in the first place," but your examples are of actual round things...? I don't get it. What I did was list out things that traditionally had well-defined edges and corners, but now have more rounded designs. Desktop cases used to be basic rectangular prisms, but a cool-looking one today has rounded designs (Alienware) or has cut-outs and stuff to give it some shapes. Laptops also have rounded edges and corners now. Toasters with modern designs are curvy. The PS3 has a domed top but the original Playstation was just a flat rectangle. My 2012 Mazda3 is a lot fatter and rounder than my old '99 Maxima. An old pair of speakers in my house from the 90s are just boxes, but my new ones are oval-ish. I purposely didn't mention TVs because they're all rectangular, but if you think about some brands like Vizio, the speakers dome out in the front to give it a rounded look.
You mentioned the One X in your original comment. The One X's corners are the same as my Tmobile S2, but the edges are more rounded, and Aaron even says in the unboxing video, "it's got a nice curve to it."
I don't understand your iPhone 4 mockery at the end... Saying it is the only one pulling off the boxy look isn't the same as saying it's the only one that CAN HAVE the irrelevant components you listed (speaker and button)... Although, it's because it DOES HAVE the glass front/back that allows it to pull off such a sharp-edged design.
Make sense now?
@JanisVaivars Curves are slick and modern. Defined corners are out-dated. I was so glad that T-Mobile's S2 had rounded corners instead of the ugly design of the S2 that all the other service providers have. The only phone that can pull off a boxy look is the iPhone4 because of it's premium quality. Think about a boxy desktop computer, a laptop, a toaster, a Playstation, a sedan, a pair of satellite speakers. All of those things look way better with curvy/round designs.
hahaha I've been calling iPhone followers iSheep for a while now. Most buyers only get the iPhone for the status symbol and the simplicity. It also takes out the need to use your brain and actually do some spec comparison when shopping. They just buy the latest model that comes out once a year rather than finding out what is actually at the top of the market. There are very few users that can actually defend their reasons for having one.
