Depth?  I don't think Haren, Beckett, or Maholm are that deep.

Lyons, combined with the incessant "Everybody clap your hands" recordings at Dodger Stadium, make me watch the games with my thumb on the mute button.

I'm reading Moneyball again, and am amazed that in spite of the As outperforming their payroll for decades, few "baseball people" seem to understand what's going on.  I think it's because baseball managers are chosen more for their former hand-eye coordination than for their understanding of math.

Two quibbles:

1.  We don't care about home field advantage?

2.  Shouldn't Volquez lead off, in case he doesn't make it far enough to get an AB?

"Not to drive the point into the ground, but it’s difficult to forget that even the Astros & Marlins wouldn’t touch him for free this winter." I don't get this.  Are we now viewing the management of the Astros and Marlins as competent judges of ability or talent?

Lance Lynn has been pretty bad lately. What are the odds of his having a quality start? I'd say there're pretty good.

Making the playoffs means a 163d game, very likely another game like the one they played Sunday.

I can do without that.  The Dodgers aren't a playoff team.

It could be worse: if Adam Kennedy were available, the brain trust might have decided to rest Cruz.

Colletti staying on almost makes me root for the Dodgers to lose. Kind of like when Steve Lavin coached the UCLA Bruins.

TJ Simers talked about Mattingly throwing in the towel when he let Capuano hit with the bases loaded.  How about letting Kennedy do the same?  How does Kennedy play in a game that you want to win?
