Taylor Pyatt does nothing except take up space on the ice.  The Hagelin Brassard Pyatt line got absolutely dominated tonight.

I wonder what's going to happen with the surplus of centers the rangers have. Assuming Stepan comes back the rangers have Stepan, brassard, Richards, Boyle, and Moore with Lindberg and miller in the minors. I know miller can play the wings but he did play some center for the rangers last year. I guess Boyle moves to the left wing on the fourth line although he was our best face off man last year

6 years 30 mill is what I think. Anything under 5 is an absolute steal especially after what harmonic just got and he's not in the same class as mcdonagh

I think Clowe will end up signing a one year deal. If Clowe thinks he'll be healthy and can play well then it would benfit him to sign a one year deal and then a multiyear contract after the season.  I know its all Rangers on this site but I read that if Letang doesnt stay in Pittsburgh he wants to go to Toronto. I know its very unlikely but a Phaneuf for Letang trade could happen.

The Rangers would have to give up a small fortune to get Henrik. I seriously doubt that the Canucks would split them up either they stay or they both go. Multiple scouts have said that if they didnt play together each player would be half as good as they are now

I think he is a little overrated and would rather use that money on offense which I think the rangers need more of. I agree with Jack, why would the maple leafs want to trade their top d man? They are definitely not in rebuilding mode after making the playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons

I would definitely like to see him in a Rangers uniform. I think he would play left wing not center. He has a great right handed shot which is exactly what the Rangers need. I've read in a couple of places he'll get around 5 mill a year. I think he'll end p staying witht the Bruins though

@jmacwilli I agree with everything you said I definitely think your right when you said Ranger fans overvalue their players. I think you are overvaluing Clowe though as are a lot of other fans. Would the Rangers have been better with him? I'm sure they would be, but Ryan Clowe wasn't going to make the Rangers offense or power play remarkably better. t

I agree with your thoughts on Torts. I'm hoping he won't be back next season but I'd say there is probably 75 percent chance he's back. He has won 15 games in the playoffs the past two seasons but he also has 17 losses during that time. I just hope he is able to adjust and open up the play a little bit

@cb1 @Josh6 There is a very little chance that that Stepan deal happens. In all likely hood it will probably either 2 or 3 years around 4 mill a year. I would love if that deal could happen though

@Josh6 1. Keep

2. KEEP KEEP KEEP

3. I'm not as high on him as others are.  Especially when he's put on the first line. He has great speed but really nothing else to his game. Third line player and nothing more.

4. I'm higher on Zucc then some other people. Yes he is small, but he offers a lot of playmaking ability that this team sorely lacks.  I could be wrong but if I remember correctly he was on the ice for every powerplay goal the Rangers had this postseason.

5. His play got a lot better as the season went on and Torts seemed to trust him a lot more (aside from the mistake in game 3 against the Caps). I would definitely resign him he's a great fit as an extra d man if Mcilrath comes up next year especially when someone gets hurt.

6. Trade him for draft picks especially with this very strong draft. Best thing for him and the team is for him to get traded.

7. Keep him. A lot of commenters don't like him but he offers a lot of things that are invaluable that people dont understand.  He is our best facceoff guy, so much so that Torts would put him out there just take face-offs for Stepan then come off the ice.  He canplay on the pk and was the reason for the only two pp goals the Rangers had this series. He is a perfect 4th line center.

8. See ya

9. Would like to bring back as a fourth line player just has to cut the stupid penalties.

10. Move on

@thecaptain Why don't I list some stats for you. 5 time Vezina trophy nominee, 2012 Vezine trophy winner, 2012 Hart trophy nominee, Olympic gold medalist winner, only goalie in nhl history to win 30 games his first 7 seasons, and he has the most shutouts by a Ranger goalie (for a franchise that has had two hall of fame goalies).  And he is undoubtedly one of the two best goalies in the game with Jonathon Quick. I think that warrants the nickname "The King"

Krieder and Stralman have basically played the whole series so it really comes down to Clowe and Staal and I still think Rangers would be down 3-0 if we had them. Maybe the Rangers don't give up 5 goals in game 2 with Staal but the real problem has been the offense. Clowe might have made a difference but its not like theyd be averaging 4 goals a game just because Clowe was in the lineup

Stepan isn't a true first line center when you compare him to other centers in the league. You're saying the Rangers aren't far off but then you say they need to damage with their second line, the Rangers can't just get dominant second line over night. It's pretty hard to acquire a top 6 forward let alone three top 6 forwards in one offseason.

1 year, 3 months ago on Lack of Depth the Rangers' Achilles Heel

Reply

I agree. If you look at the other remaining 7 teams all of them, except for the Seantors, have a star center. Stepan and Brassard aren't on the same level as Datsyuk, Crosby, Toews, Malkin, Bergeron, Kopitar, Couture, or Thorton.

1 year, 3 months ago on Lack of Depth the Rangers' Achilles Heel

I think the bigger problem is the lack of top end talent.  The lack of a true number one center and scoring wingers forces the players to be in positions they shouldnt be in. Brassard and Stepan are both good centers but niether is a bonafide true number one center. Hagelin and Zuccarello are both decent players but both are third line players.  The Boyle, Pyatt and Dorsett line would be a great fourth line but with our lack of top end talent theyre on the third line and Hagelin is our first line left winger.

I dont understand all the hate Nash is getting. Yes he hasn't played his best hockey but after watching the past 5 games them being down 3-2 is not his fault.  Any time he has the puck he has been double teamed.  Most of the time he's all alone when he brings the puck into the zone and there is noone there to help him.  The only real good opportunity he has gotten was in game 2 where he hit the post and he was 2 inches away from scoring.  Has he had multiple breakaways and not converted like Hagelin? Nope. Do people expect him to go 1 on 5 against the Caps and score a goal? Where has the highest paid player in hockey been?  I love Callahan but what has he done so far in this postseason.

He reminds me so much of McDonagh. Moore has a better shot than McDonagh but isn't as good defensively, I can't wait to have these guys on the back end for the next 10-15 years. What do you think they could get for del zotto? I'm thinking sather ships him out during the draft for a second rounder possibly a late first. This is a very very good draft and the rangers need picks after losing their first for Nash and second for clowe

Whats with Hagelin?  He doesn't seem like he has the same speed he used to. I'm not not sure if he's injured but he's definitely not as effective without his speed, I wouldn't mind scratching him for Kreider next game. Del Zotto better get his head out of his ass

I will not be watching the game on Monday.  Partly because I'm the unluckiest fan in the world and also because I'm 21 and don't want to have a full head of grey hair and a stomach full of ulcers by the time I turn 25.  I'm a diehard Rangers, Jets, Mets and Knicks fan and have never seen one of my teams win a championship (the Rangers won when I was 2 so I don't count that) and I never will.  After todays gut wrenching loss I've decided that I won't watch the game on Monday to try and reverse my luck.  I was at 4 Ranger playoff games last year and they went 1-3.  I've been to 2 Mets playoff games and they lost both.  My first Jets game I ever went to Vinny Testaverde tore his achilles and ruined the Jets season.  After all my heartbreak as sports fan I continually support my teams but on Monday Ill sit this one out. If the Rangers lose on Monday than this proves they really do suck and that one wont be my fault.

I was disappointed with the loss but it's going to be a long series and the Rangers can't play any worse than they did tonight.  On a different note if the Rangers ever want to get over the hump and jump from a good team to a great team they need a stud defenseman.  If you look at the last 6 Stanley Cup winners they all have one thing in common and that's a great defenseman.  The last 6 teams that have won have had Doughty, Chara, Keith, Letang, Lidstrom and Pronger on their teams. Those guys can shut down the other teams top guy and they all played the point on the power play for their respective teams.  The main reason the Rangers power play is awful is because they don't have a player that can blast it from the point.  I love Mcdonagh as much as anyone but he's not on their level and he doesn't contribute on the power play. Maybe Mcilrath can develop into that kind of player but they need to find that player somewhere. I know thats its very rare to find that type of player but Pronger and Chara have played for several teams and Lidstrom and Keith were drafted in the second round and Letang in the third so there are ways to acquire these kind of guys. I know I'm ranting and this has nothing to do with the game but I think the Rangers have to find a Norris winner defenseman to take that next step.

I don't think we should fire torts but almost every team in the east besides the penguins and maybe the bruins would kill for the roster the rangers have. This team shouldn't be worrying about getting into the playoffs with two games left when teams like the islanders and maple leafs have already clinched. Yes torts brought this team to the conference finals last year but they beat an 8 seed and then a 7 seed to get there. If the rangers lose in the first round sather has to consider the future of this team and if torts is in that future

Spot on analysis of the game. Have the rangers scored a power play goal when del zotto and richards are on the ice at the same time? Those two cant shoot the puck on net if their life depended on it or touch the puck without turning it over. Taylor Pyatt is a waste of space on the ice, he doesn't contribute anything. I'm sure people will argue that he's reliable and torts can trust him but the rangers are 27th in the league in goals per game they need offense not reliability.  Unlike asham or powe he doesn't fight or play on the penalty kill. It might be time to bring up one of the younguns
