Aceves is another one of the whining, disrespectful babies that I hope will be gone by season's end. And what's with all that sweating?
The whining Lester might want to take a page from Orel Hershiser's book. Hershiser won 23 games in 1988, the same year he pitched 59 straight shutout innings and got the Cy Young Award. He said he always planned to throw a perfect game. "If they get a hit, then I am throwing a one-hitter. if they get a walk, it's my last walk. I deal with perfection to the point that it is logical to conceive it. History is history, the future is perfect." Try harder, Jon.
Seriously, could just you and Red please run this team from now on?
Ugh.
1987 was pretty bad. The Sox had come within one strike of winning the Series the year before, and you know the rest. The 87 Sox finished under .500. Rice's and Gedman's and Stanley's careers were in free-fall after previously great seasons. This year, I was thinking maybe the Sox would fire Bobby V at the All-Star break and get someone new, a la the "Morgan Magic of 88." No dice. Still, I agree, this year has been pretty depressing.
Can't wait for Lackey to be gone. He looks like a Yankee. Maybe they'll take on his $16m a year contract without wincing. Also, I see a Lester-, Beckett- and Bobby V-free 2013 ahead of us.
I feel like I'm back in 1985. A talented team that can barely win every other day. Guess this is just a rebuilding year.
Sounds good to me. Booby V is not long for this world.
