I was really interested to see a sequel to "Salvation"(I know Im in the minority here) and the development of the time travel tech in the franchise, hopefully they delve into some of that in the new trilogy.  The Terminator is a at the same time a tough and easy role to cast, I think the look is what's most important, more so then acting range (not to be confused with ability), that being said, I think the Rock could do the role justice.

This was my most anticipated film of the year and after the embargo lifted I was happy with the mostly positive reviews... then the negative ones just kept coming and I got worried that the film was gonna suck.  After seeing it I couldn't really get a handle on what the critics didn't like, other than that it was a comic book film.

1 year, 1 month ago on Why Man of Steel is receiving bad reviews and the public loves this Superman

Its nice to see a lot of positive fan reviews to balance out what many critics are saying.  It seems that much of the flack this film is getting is that it's nothing like the Donner film, which is ironic because the perceived problem with Superman Returns was that it was too much like the Donner film.  I think within the context of what people thought about 'Returns',  the studio succeeded in making the exact Superman movie they set out to.  The fans seem to appreciate this while many critics do not...

@JamesM @KevinC1 @WillLambert canon goes out the window, at this point.  The films are their own story now.  Im not saying they should kill off Pepper so Stark can have vengeance... Im simply connecting some dots in the trailers.  If i happen to be right (and I acknowledge I am most likely not) I would be okay with that...  Shane Black has cited The Dark Knight as inspiration for this story, and we saw what happened to Rachel Dawes, just sayin.

You can't judge a film by it's trailer... two words: Phantom Menace.  However, I disagree on the points about Superman Returns.  The trailer was phenomenal, yes... but I personally thought the film delivered what the trailer promised.  It wasn't the Superman film a lot of people wanted, but it was a very good film nonetheless.

I think Man of Steel will be good.  It will bring the action that fans have been clamoring for since CGI has made it possible to translate Superman on film.  I had high hopes prior to the trailer, and since then my excitement has increased.  Hopefully it can deliver.

Also, I thought Watchmen was a very good adaptation as well, not sure what the guy could have done differently to improve it all that much...  The worst you could say is that the casting of a few characters could have been better and Dr. Manhattan's facial CGI left something to be desired...

While I respect George Lucas for the visionary he is in terms of hatching ideas, characters and concepts, GL isn't half the director JJ Abrams is.  The scripts Lucas put out and the direction he applied to them were the biggest reason the prequel trilogy fell short of expectations.  With writing and directing out of his hands, I think we will see the best of Star Wars since the OT.  I am excited as anything to see what Abrams does with this.

I think this is probably the best thing that any Star Wars fan could ask for.  What Abrams did with Star Trek was take all the great stuff from Star Wars (A New Hope), and apply it.  It is all the same things that the prequel trilogy sorely missed.  While I don't think Abrams is the best director out there, I do think he is the best director out there to make Star Wars relevant and successful today...

The DC properties are in a tight spot with Nolan's trilogy having just ended and The Avengers doing so well... These execs clearly don't have the patience to follow the Marvel model, but then again that might prove redundant to have all the solo films that loosely tie together at some point.  If they are smart and organized they can make it work in reverse by doing the big movie first then breaking down by character to build it back up again...

I think there will always be a place for the brick and mortar cinema in some way shape or form.  Watching a movie at home is not the same thing unless you have a ridiculous home theater which is not the case for most of us.  Until that is the case though, people will want to gather together and watch movies in their truest form, on the silver screen.  Even after the format becomes totally obsolete, it will hang around as a novelty for a while.  So I don't think its going anywhere for a long time...

I really love how the movie "feels" so far.  it looks beautiful, and the music is compelling (I wonder if its part of the actual score or not) but Im very impressed so far with what Snyder has shown us.  Im digging the approach in terms of handling the origin.  Its not Smallville, yet we seem to get a little more background into young Clark dealing with his powers.  I wonder if this will be a chronological linear story line or if it will jump back and forth a little, I am guessing the latter.  Superman looks excellent, the effects look great and that quick shot of Zod looked straight menacing.  My excitement level just went to 11.

@Anthony_TMB I have a feeling you will get what you are looking for as they are being fairly outspoken with regards to distancing themselves from what Donner and Singer gave done.  I think we'll see a more introspective Clark and more of a journey to becoming Superman.

Grant Morrison has done some cool stuff with the character and I think/hope we get something in that vein.

I was a big Routh fan and I thought he did well with the character in SR, but Im fully on board with this film and I think Snyder is going to surprise a lot of people.

@Anthony_TMB I agree that it felt a bit outside of the narrative of the previous two films and that would bother me if Quantum of Solace was any good.  This film feels more like the older ones where each one was almost a stand alone, with implicit nods to other stories but no tangible common threads.  I guess Im saying I agree with you, but I dont think its atypical of a Bond film.

I will say that Bardem is in my top 3 Bond villians and my favorite of the Craig films.  I think my assessment falls inline with what others are saying: better than Quantum, not quite as good as Casino... yet the more I think about this film, the more I want to see it again.  I would love to see Sam Mendes do another one and perhaps rebuild some continuity that started with Casino Royale through Quantum of Solace... or forget them and move on from Skyfall.

I think WB is in a "wait and see" mode until Man of Steel comes out and they know what they have on their hands.  If it bombs, they may just go with a whole new cast and hope to ride on The Avengers coat tails to turn a profit, but if MOS is a hit, they would be foolish not to have Cavil and Snyder be a big part of Justice League.  If there are some cameos or nods, I think the fans always dig nods to the source material or stingers to set up sequels, so we'll see.

So far I have high hopes for this movie, as I think Snyder has talent that we havent seen yet, hopefully it comes out in this!

I just recently came upon some of the leaked comic-con footage of  MOS, and it was both ambitious and impressive.  While Snyder and co. may be giving us a new canon to deal with, they are definitely taking the mythos of Superman seriously, and that comes across in the epic nature of some of the shots.  I hope the trailer includes some of that footage...

This is unfortunate.  Unless they plan to sandwich this new trilogy in between episode 3 and 4, this would be very bad.  To bring him back after episode 6 would completely undo his redemption in the OT and pretty much negate the entire franchise.  Ill wait to hear more before I get heated, but this is plain silly.

I always thought Bale got a bum rap when that whole Terminator: Salvation thing came out, and the rumors of tenuous familial relationships.  From what I know of the guy, he tries very hard to avoid the limelight and live as much in anonymity as a hollywood star can.  This gesture really doesn't surprise me.  I cant really say why exactly, but he has always seemed like a decent, albeit flawed, man... just like anyone really.  Anyone could have a couple of embarrassing or weak moments pasted all over the news and come off like a total nut-job or jerk.  Im glad to see this get some press, and I get the feeling that is not at all why Bale did it.
