Dang, man...from Grady Little to Bobby Valentine within 10 years. That'd be enough to break the spirit of most fanbases. This one just drinks more. 'Course, the Tito years in between helped a helluva lot.

Not sure the NFL wants its 2013 postseason narrative to be built around a guy whose false testimony helped a couple of his buddies beat a murder rap in Atlanta a dozen years ago.
I am surprised Peyton willfully took a knee getting the ball back as he did when a 60-something field goal (while not routine, FAR from unheard of in Denver's atmosphere -or lack thereof) would've won the game. Matt Ryan proved (again) yesterday that half a minute is plenty of time to win a tie game.
Anyway, we are guaranteed a Manning-free Super Bowl, and if for no other reason I rate this NFL season a success. If my Falcons can't beat the odds and win it all, Go Pats.

That's discouraging, but I will tell myself it's personality-based as far as Schill is concerned. I generally like guy the but I'd rather take the next one than share a cab with him.

When I heard he wasn't allowed to pick his own coaching staff I wondered just why the hell he would have taken the job...and then I realized that he was still getting paid in US currency and that everything counts in large amounts. Fortunately they have the funds to overpay their next manager, 'cause NO ONE is going to want to take market rates to work for this team. Especially if the same riders tacked on to Bobby V's contract apply to the next guy. Meanwhile, Tito goes to the Injuns. Which seems like he's still being punished for September of 2011. Crash Davis was right..."F*** this motherf***ing game."

Perspective is a helluva thing. All it took was 161 games of Bobby V and suddenly Grady Little doesn't seem so bad. 'Course, Tito and those two World Series wins are a helluva buffer, but still.

Almost reminds me of another Italian Bobby who accepted a job he thought was going to be one thing that ended up being something completely different...Bobby Petrino (another renowned "people person"), with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007. At least Valentine hasn't walked out mid-season; he'd see this gig through if he had the chance, though God knows why he'd want to at this point.

@BB.13 @BrentAnthonisen Yeah, BB...found one of my old log-in ID's lying around somewhere. How've you been? Better than the Sox, I hope. 20-2? Really?!

I'm with you and Dents on this one...I've tossed my Sox gear into the closet and I ain't taking any of it back out until Truck Day '13. I can support a team that loses 100 games as long as the players give me an honest effort on the field and don't embarrass themselves off of it. And I don't buy the "most guys on this team weren't around Pesky long enough to get to know him that well" argument for a second. They were here long enough to know how much he meant to the TEAM and the FANS of that team. Do you think the guys who've only recently been added to the Yankees' roster would blow off Yogi Berra's funeral if he were to pass? No freaking way. On teams like this, there is a history and as a player, you are obligated to understand it, respect it, and do your part to pay tribute to it. If you don't understand that as a player, there's probably a roster spot for you in Tampa or Colorado where you can play as poorly and as obliviously as you want and never have to worry about what the team's fans think about your place in their history because they don't have a history to honor the way the Red Sox do.

He was the bridge from my dad's Red Sox to my Red Sox. Every time I see an official 2004 World Series baseball he signed with the words "Ted, we did it!" inscribed I am overcome with emotion. He loved his teammates and he loved his team. I hope he had a good idea as to just how much the fans of his team loved him, because it was a helluva lot.

For what it's worth, I don't believe Valentine is a bad manager. I don't think he had any idea just what manner of sh*tstorm he was walking into. I DO believe that knowing how weak his bullpen is he should've left Saturday's starter in for at least one more inning Saturday. "Giving some innings" to the BP to work on stuff is okay when you've got a safe lead, but I'm not sure any lead is safe at Fenway anymore. DEFINITELY not against the MFY.
A friend of mine who is a Yankees fan out of convenience (shocking, I know) texted me during the meltdown on Saturday letting me know they were booing Bobby V. I explained that was because they don't allow firearms in Fenway.
I blame the EPL. Since these guys purchased Liverpool FC, the Sox and the Scousers have BOTH gotten worse.

Chuck Norris in real life is tougher than any character he played on TV. Fact.
2 years, 4 months ago on Those Texas Fellas Sure Are Tough
Oh, and for what it's worth...Chuck Norris is from Oklahoma, not Texas. It's kind of a big deal if you're from Oklahoma. Or Texas.
Man, at some point don't you start wondering when the concern switches from "leaving a pitcher in for too long" to "why isn't anyone in the bullpen capable of pitching to more than one batter per outing?"
On the other hand, at least last night they kept the point spread down to single digits...so they've got that going for them. Which is nice.
