People are putting Subaru flat 4s in 912s these days.  Certainly this is no worse.  My vote is for pure awesomeness.  Sheer lunacy is probably arguable though.

Not as heavy as you may think.  Probably comparable or even lighter than many modern cars.  Curb weight for a four door sedan is listed at 3280 lbs.  A current gen M3 is closing in on 4,000 lbs.   These Caddy caps are usually called "sombreros."
