In 14 playoff games, Quick has allowed 22 goals. In 6 games, MAF allowed 26. So maybe by the end of the finals this will even up.
Still trying to recover from that series, but seeing Ovie get his heart broken last night was nice. And knowing Giroux will be home tonight beating off to his Nickelback cd's instead of playing is good too.
@HobeyBaker(inExile) @not_Yanni Because he's sporting a Napolean Dynamite face.
IMHO....
Playoffs sometimes come down to luck. It's easier to spot in football. Typically the Steelers don't match up well with the Pats. So not having to play them on their two SB runs helped, though I'm not trying to diminish the accomplishment. Every team has their nemesis and it can change every year.
This year, the Pens' nemesis was Philly, as much as that sucks to admit. Had they drawn anyone else in the 1st round, they'd be fine. And if Philly had run into the Rangers before the Pens, all the better.
I'd hate to see management make any rash decisions based on one pathetic series, but some changes should be made. In the end though, getting our captain back on the first line and a return to order will help. At any rate, I don't think this is the type of franchise to be drastic anyway.
The biggest problem that last two years has been injuries, and it's time to stop making excuses for MAF. Most athletes perform better under pressure anyway. Getting Crosby back on the 1st line and more order to the lineups will help too.
Staff is right though, it all goes back to game 1. Win that, and we're still looking at game 7 at home. Ugh.
So who's the least likely to be back next season? Not sure what they can do with Martin, but obviously there's no faith there.
@orby-lieve Yeah let's trash Malkin instead of the leaky defense and total shit goaltending.
Another crap game from Flower.
Is "Fleury" French for "soft goals"?
No magic here. Flyers played better that period. Some nice stretches for the Pens, but all phases were out played. No one wins every period though, but they need to take the second.
@Steve HP Great point. So they really have to stop the dumb penalties. Great PK tonight though, even with the two allowed. No way they stop the 5-3 anyway.
There is only one key to the game tonight: Flower.
10-3 was great and all, but an .880 save percentage isn't going to cut it tonight.
@PotMeetKettle Good point. Especially since Philadelphia fans have never done anything racist.
@Hoss I've gone to three Browns/Steelers games in their new stadium. I can't say it's a really good fanbase. Twice I was challenged to a fight for wearing a Steelers jersey. Good thing I usually have about 20,000 fellow Steelers fans with me.
Being capable is pretty meaningless. Actually doing it counts.
Last year he had three pretty bad games against Tampa Bay, and this year he's had three beyond awful games. Sorry, but those are the facts. #1 overalls simply have to be better than that.
Solid post, but one mystery of this blog is why Fleury is always defended. He's been beyond awful, and it's too simple to just blame the defense. He's a goalie - you're not going to have someone play defense out of their mind like Scuderi did on the last cup run all the time. You need to make big saves and he's not doing it. Really, he's never done it.
I'm not saying trade him, but it's time to start raising the expectations. If you could pick any goalie in the league for us tonight, he wouldn't be it.
