Woah. What's with the designers at Gumpert? The Apollo looks ancient and pretty lame alongside its spectacular supercar contemporaries, and the Explosion has no shortage of sharp, aggressive lines, but the car's proportions are weird and all it does is manage to look like what's already being offered by other companies, only angrier and less refined. I think Gumpert just needs to polish the Explosion until its design is up to par, then graft that design language onto the Apollo, only kicked up to level 11 so that it actually has a personality. Bam. Gumpert wins, begins to develop a unique, recognizable design language, becomes a contender. Right?

The Pantera is flawless. What an epic modernization! On another note, am I the only one that thinks that all of the other cars (except for the Plymouth) had inappropriately modern-looking wheels on them? The bodies and interiors and engine bays were all flawless and looked great, but the wheels just look completely out of place. You have this flawless, period correct body and then large, contemporary-looking aftermarket wheels with low profile tires. It throws the entire aesthetic of the cars off. Couldn't they seek out at least slightly retro-looking designs that maintain the size/weight/width needed for modern performance without completely killing the car's look?

Maybe I simply don't "get" it, but I've always thought that wheels with visible company badges on a car made by a different company look atrocious. It's fine to have any wheel design you want, but I feel like keeping the logos and having two different logos on the same car looks incredibly tacky. That goes for that Volkswagen steering wheel in the Porsche as well. I guess it's funny, but it's more upsetting than anything else. It's extremely distracting and honestly didn't allow me notice anything else in the interior. That's not even delving into the wheel sizing and fitment problem with just about every car covered here. The Ghia's body is perfect but those wheels are too too big yet too narrow, too far inside the wells, and the tires are way too thin. The same goes for the Scirocco and the Golf. The wheels are too big yet too narrow, and the tires are too thin. It looks awkward. Then there's the Porsche, which is the worst offender. The way it sits on those narrow, sunken-in wheels, and the tuck in the rear... it's just so lame. x__x The BMW and VW Saverio look great. I don't know, man. The work that's gone into all of these cars is indeed amazing, and truly staggering in some areas, but I simply don't get the wheel thing.

Stop getting so mad, between a RWB and a RUF I'd get a RWB in a heartbeat because they're just cooler. A RUF would be a better social status symbol/track day car but who cares, really. Now that i think of it, painting the lower third of the car black would have worked excellently! Even with such a modern kit, bringing back the old two tone paint would have had overwhelmingly good results, and would make the wheels look even more appropriate,

1 year, 5 months ago on Taking It Back To The Eighties: Trd 86

Love the idea! The wheels and louvers are excellent, but I think the kit doesn't quite match the theme. It's a nice kit, but looks far too bulky and huge for the 80's spirit it tries to go for. If there were a smaller, purer version of the front and rear bumpers developed, sort of in the style of the slim, minimalist Rocket Bunny S13 kit, this would be an absolute 10/10. However, I do understand that times have changed and everything is larger and bulkier and lower and wider in general. Oh well!

Both look amazing and both are very exciting! It feels as if the American manufacturers are finally catching up a bit in the sports car market. For years I've felt that the US simply can't compete with Europe, but with this I think that the Astons and Lambos and such finally have not just one, but two worthy American competitors. However, this doesn't mean that the companies should rest. If anything, I'm expecting consistency! If this high standard is maintained for long enough, perhaps the quality and style seen here will trickle down to the rest of Dodge and Chevrolet's lineups over time!

The 926 would make me freak out and cheer out the window like a crazed child if I saw it on the freeway. The other cars, as awesome as they are, just aren't as legendary.

I had to Google the 6th gen to remember what it looked like! Not many rolling around Los Angeles! Or maybe I need to get out more. Point is, it feels really soon to be having a new Golf.
