@Jamesgoss @Savannah The way I read it in the book "Backyard Brawl", after A&M opened it's doors in 1876 the state wanted another university called Texas University. By the time 1883 came around they decided to make it The University of Texas when they actually opened their doors. I have also read what your talking about too.

Before you call A&M fans "petulant children" at least know why we call the longhorns TU. To any Aggie UT is the University of Tennessee, always has been. The University of Texas was originally called Texas University and later changed their name. Please know the facts before spouting your dribble.
