More than a decade ago I wrote former friend Yossi Beilin urging him to stop misleading the Palestinians, to stop lying about the "Two-State Solution", to come clean and confess!   Either had made terrible mistakes; or he had lead the Palestinians into a fatal trap; maybe even a combination of both.

In the years since Beilin and his proteges, among them Daniel Levy, have collected so much money, made so many deceptive speeches, and in the end brought about so much harm, death, and depravation to the occupied and disposses people of Palestine.

Now that the Two-State Solution is dead, though not yet buried, Beilin is trying to wiggle out of responsibility proclaiming if only this....if only that.   What a tragic farce Beilin and his "liberal Zionists" are responsible form.

Here are the opening paragraphs of what I wrote Beilin then.  The full text is at  http://alturl.com/4akum and at MiddleEast.Org.

August 4, 2001                  WILL THE REAL YOSSI BEILIN PLEASE STAND UP By Mark A. Bruzonsky*

Not that long ago in years, but ages ago in political time, I sat with Yossi Beilin in his office in Jerusalem urging him to start talks with the PLO. It was just a few years before the Intifada erupted. Some months before I had had a private dinner with Yasser Arafat, Nabil Sha'ath and a few top PLO officials...

This is the same Yossi Beilin who helped lead the Palestinians into today's orgastically violent bloodletting by trying to trick them into what MER has termed an "Apartheid Peace" for years. The same Yossi Beilin who for years was nicknamed "Peres' Poodle". The same Yossi Beilin who has publicly said that he never ever discussed with Yitzhak Rabin where the "Oslo Peace Process" would eventually lead -- wonder why? The same Yossi Beilin who back in those days when we had this last meeting and he was Deputy Foreign Minister was in charge of working closely with the then racist South African government. And the same Yossi Beilin who this week wrote a crafty plea in the New York Times, along with Yasir Abed Rabbo (himself a very much discredited figure as Arafat's "Minister of Culture and Information") claiming to offer hope for "peace" but actually designed to let Beilin and his fellow Labor party travelers off the historical hook in view of what is actually happening and more importantly what is likely now to come.

Once again this very accomplished and erudite political scientist does too much pussy-footing around!  The 2SS solution was purposefully killed off by the Israelis, Ariel Sharon in the lead, with policies begun in the 1970s and then masked by the "Oslo Peace Process" which Walt and so many others naively supported.  Today the 2SS is in a death-bed coma, like Sharon himself in fact, and will never recover.  Today's champions of the 2SS, from Olmert to Mofaz to J Street, clearly say they are doing so for Zionist reasons.  Their intent is clearly to bribe and threaten the PA of Abbas/Fayyad to agree to some kind of new deal that will be yet another political fantasy mirage.  Having assassinated prior Palestinian leaders who refused, including Arafat whom they groomed for so many years including his stint in the 90s as the most frequent foreign visitor to the White House, Abbas and Fayyad are well aware of what could become their fate as well if they do not comply one way or another; as they in fact already have so many times in so many ways.  Even weaselly "Oslo Architect" Yossi Beilin (see at MiddleEast.Org my letter to Beilin 10 years ago chastising him for lying to and misleading his Palestinian "friends") now tells Abbas to stop being a collaborator and end the charade of the quisling "Palestinian Authority).  BUT let's be brutally honest and point the fingers not just at the Israelis.  We Americans have been the facilitator, the pusher, the pimp, the drug-dealer, the UN vetoer, the excuser for the Israelis for decades now.  Without our sui generis military, financial, political and CIA help and encouragement the Israelis could never have done what they have done.  We are the extremely complicitous party.  The burden of history falls on our shoulders for what we have done, and not done.  And in the process we have allowed the Israelis and their Jewish lobby (now reinforced with the Christian Fundamentalist Zionists they have god-fathered) to cause us to kill and maim and make refugees of millions of more Arabs and Muslims, in the process igniting today's Judeo-Christian crusades, largely on behalf of Israel, though masked by false slogans about "freedom" and "democracy".  American hypocrisy and duplicity is simply awesome to behold.  And now we are on the threshold of a regional war, even a great-powers clash, the Israelis and their Jewish and Christian Zealot compatriots, have been working feverishly to bring about.   And so...the time for pussy-footing around should be over and we should be getting to the core issues, the core reasons, and advocating serious and tough and real solutions...rather than more hand-wring about the dead 2SS.    Mark Bruzonsky - MarkBruzonsky.com

Walt is such a sensible guy, but he spends far too much time with academics and pussy-footing around, among other reasons probably to be nice and acceptable to FP.  The brutal realities of the situation are far more clear regardless of another round of "negotiations".  First of all, largely because of the very Israeli/Jewish lobby Walt has written about (also without focusing in on the guts of the predicament), we are already at war with Iran.  The unprecedented "sanctions", the vast military forces surrounding and targeted Iran,  the constant threats, and the multiple cyber and terrorist attacks, provide multiple casus belli for the Iranians.  We Americans and Israel would never tolerate anything of this kind.  We get away with it however because Iran's military power is minor compared to that of the US and Israel, which itself has a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons and delivery systems maybe even exceeding that of China!   Second of all the Israelis are clearly determined to control the Middle East as the only major military power, and they do so by constantly manipulate the U.S. to provide them every more military might while blocking the UN and any others from seriously condemning them.  If anyone should be under sanction in the Middle East these days it is Israel!  And while I'm at it lets thank Gunter Grass!  The Israelis through their control of Congress and most of the US mass media have CEO Obama on the run and they know it.  They are squeezing him for all they can get in the way of more super arms and commitments.  They will lite the fuse for regional war when they decide too and they know they can block Obama from standing up to them with Congress and the media if they need to.   Walt himself has written about how it was the Israeli/Jewish Lobby (to be politically correct he skips the Jewish part) in coordination with the cabal of Zionist Neocons who pushed the US into war with Iraq.  But even then the regional game plan to deal with Iran, Lebanon (Hezbollah) and Palestine (Hamas) was on the horizon.  Now that horizon is upon us.

Right!  This is in fact what Kofi Annan is doing (surely remembering how he failed to block US invasions and wars when he was Sec-Gen and in fact allowed himself to be co-opted by Washington).  What Walt fails to emphasize is how the Americans and their key Arab Allies are doing the opposite of what he suggests, clearly undermining Annan and fueling the Syrian civil war regardless of cost in lives and possible regional, even extra-regional, war.   Moreover, though the Israelis are careful on this one to hide their fingerprints, you can be sure that if the US wasn't doing what the Israelis want they would use Congress and the media to block.  Rather the Israelis are pushing the Americans to intervene and topple Damascus one way or another with their sights on Tehran, Beirut (Hezbollah), and Palestine (Hamas).
