@ecdawg @Silver Creek Dawg
Dan Wetzel or Barnhart tweeted earlier this week there will be no conference caps. If 3 teams from a conference get selected, so be it.
Silver Creek, you hit the nail on the head. 9 games, no divisions. Each team has 3 permanent opponents. The other 10 teams rotate on and off the schedule.
I don't think getting rid of the game will concede defeat to the losers. I think it is making sure you don't beat yourself.
I also disagree about a "prize that is losing its prestige fast". Winning the CFB playoff will be the biggest thing in American sports besides the Super Bowl.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
I disagree that the SEC means more to teams than a national. I'll concede the point if you can find one Alabama fan who would trade the 2011 national title for LSU's SEC title.
Personally, I have mixed feelings on the playoff issue. Part of me that hates the BCS is ready for it. I get and understand what you mean about what an SEC title means, but in the changing landscape of college football, I think the SEC has to adapt. In 2008 and 2009 both Bama and UF were 1 & 2 going into that game. The loser would not have made the 4 team bracket.

"And would the slap have even happened had Meyer benched Rainey for a number of weeks back in 2010, showing him that his ways would have to change?"
Rainey was benched for at least 4 or 5 games in 2010, FWIW.

I'm not sure if folks could see it at home, but Shaw had recievers open in the 1st quarter and didn't hit them. I think Spurrier got impatient. Apparently SOS told a Florida writer wednesday of game week that he told shaw if he played poorly that he would get benched. The 1st play (IMO) rattled shaw and he never got over it. I think he was playing timid and afraid of making a mistake which led to missed recievers and ultimatelty the bench, Spurrier knew USC needed this game and I think Spurrier pressed too much. Just my opinion.

Carolina fans have nothing to hang their head about. Went toe to toe with a top 3 program and gave as good as they got. A lot to be said about that.

So if Carolina beats Georgia and Florida beats Carolina but loses to Georgia, the East could come down to Florida beating FSU and Carolina beating Clemson? Awesome!

typos aside (Georgia hosts Vandy and the Vols back to back.) 4 wins since divisional play began in '92.
Commings and Vasser are out, with a couple more that may be announced. UGA returns a bunch, and Mizzou has problems on the O line (not good for them with a playmaker like Jarvis Jones).
That said, having to move a guy to the secondary to patch holes against a team that routinely plays with four wide could be an issue for Georgia. I listed it as a "toss up". it will be interesting to see the line on this thing.

Thanks EC. I think you will see UF UGA USC and UK keep their in state/OOC rivals and then schedule a couple of sunbelt mainstsays. Personally, I don't like playing the D1AA guys, but they are cheap and plentiful. With a 9 game slate, I'd expect to see more of those games in mid season as a pseudo bye week. The extra money could be a real game changer. I don't think it is unreasonable to think per team revenue may double within five years.

I think the selection committee will answer to the conference commissioners. There needs to be some consistency on the panel, but I would be against life time members. One of the reasons I put Zook on but not Bobby Bowden is connection to the game. The panel needs guys who are up to date with new schemes and the current state of the game. A three year commitment with an option to renew would be a good place to start.
With the panel being made available to all media (I think SEC media days) it will be hard for panel members to cover for voting for the match up TV wanted. Don't underestimate the role the media and fans through social media had in getting us to this point in time.
If there is mo transparency, the whole thing is a failure.

No problem here. Spurrier said he wouldn't hire a smoker or a coach who was "sloppy".

I feel pretty good about UF moving forward. If the offense can upgrade from "dumpster fire" to "mediocre/middle of the road", UF can compete for the EAST. UF held Auburn and S Carolina to 17 last year. A half way effective offense wins those games (don't even mention Rainey's 3 fumbled punts on the plains). It took 2 UF turnovers inside the 25 and UGA converting on 2 4th down jump balls in the endzone to muster a 24-20 win in Jacksonville. A very stout D coupled with an offense that limits turnovers and is efficient in the redzone could land Muschamps 9 Ws next year.

Can Arkansas afford to hire the next Ray Goff or Ron Zook? Transitioning NOW in the SEC west is a death wish. The wrong coach sets that program back 7 years. Easy. Fine him, suspend him, cut his pay. The fact is, Arkansas can't afford to fire Petrino.
