@ThunderChick2010 @DennisBerry Sounds like a great idea. I'm in OKC/Edmond. Who's our leader(s)?
@DennisBerry This may be a totally stupid question but what is Blue Alliance?
@DennisBerry I'm in for 2. The 22nd is my birthday so it will be my present to me.
@DennisBerry Ok. Put me down for at least 2 tickets.
@DennisBerry How many tickets at $100 per are we talking about?
It's my wife's birthday tomorrow and she's going to be 29. When I tell people how old she is they look at me weird and say things like, "Wow she's young.". I know what they're thinking. They're thinking I robbed the cradle or something, but damn. I'm only 32. Do I really look that old?!? I need to do something about this.
Obviously my phone doesn't update fast enough.
@Old Man Game Roger Clemons
@DennisBerry I agree completely. The team obviously has made money and can afford to go into the tax. I'm not saying it's the ideal way to operate but it's very obvious that in order to win u have to spend. We have an ownership group of very wealthy men. The team isn't their income. Their other businesses are. The Thunder is an investment of sorts. If they all (10 I believe) had to chip in a million or two each season to field a championship team then I'm sure they would do it gladly.
Basically I said (in the 1st 1/2 was I hope we aren't trying to win with just 4 good players and a bunch of half ass role players. I'm afraid that's kinda happening. Our last 5 players on the bench make a total of less tha 6-7 million combined. I believe to win a championship we need 3 really good players as well as 5-6 above average role specific players. They don't have to be thebest at their role, just above average. I'm looking at our line up and don't see it. KD, Russ, Harden, and Ibaka can only carry us so far. Look what happens when harden is off his game. We lose 4 in a row.
I copied and pasted my statement and obviously the first 1/2 was not copied. Mea villa. I'll try to recreate it and repost.
players. We can't bank on FA wanting to come to OKC for a chance at a ring. Even though we all know how great OKC is I don't believe that perception is felt around the league. If a solid player has a choice between a major market and us I'd bet the vast majority of the time the player will choose the big market. It sucks but it's reality. We have to keep drafting well and finding "diamonds in the rough" vets.
SOOOOO does the NBA and the Thunder expect us to sit around and make small talk fir the next 6 weeks? Holy shit this is going to be tough. Are there any other tournaments or random competitions our players can participate? I needs me some Thunder b-ball. Lazar should do some kind of charity game for OKC. I mean he's our token charity case of a player.
@OBoymuzik I guess. I just know in college sports it is PARAMOUNT to pay the assistans extremely well if u want to retain them. It's just like any business I suppose. Employers that pay better usually get better production and better employees. I just hope we don't lose a bunch of good people because we don't want to pay good money. Human capital is the most important ingredient for a successful company.
It's quite obvious people in our management are getting plucked away all the time now. And it's primarily due to the production in the court. Why would a guy go from scout to assistant coach when he was probably going to be the next assistant GM. It's not like our coaches are moving on to head coaching positions. The Brooks coaching tree will never be filled with amazing head coaches. Do we just not pay very much? Is that the reason for accepting a lesser position than what we would have offered?
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! I think it should be like other sports (swimming, tennis, track and field). If u can qualify for different events then u should be able to play in different events. I'd guess the coaches would have to decide if they want their b-ball players playing in two different tournaments.
This may be the most ridiculous idea yet, but everyone is questioning how we could possibly keep Harden and Ibaka. If Miami can win with 3 Stars and a bunch of role players, then why can't we have 2 stars and 2 almost stars and a bunch of role players? I don't have all the salaries. Does this sound possible? KD-$16M Russ-$15M Harden-$12M Ibaka-$10M Totaling $53M for 4 players. Then we add in another 9-10 players who's pay totals $25-$30M. That would mean a few min pay along with a few around $3-$4M. From the looks of salaries players are signing for, I think this is more than doable. Our total payroll would be around $80M leaving our tax penalty about 20M. If we want to win then we will more than likely have to be a tax payer. Just not a high tax payer.
@ERROR72 @ou_sas The NBA and FIBA said last week the 23 year old age limit will not go into effect before 2016. So KD should be able to play in at least one more Olympics. Even if they do institute the age limit, teams will be allowed at least 3 players over the age of 23.
@Daddy V 9 am Central
@OkcBaby Do we have to take up a roster spot for that? Is it against the rules to have "practice players?". The NFL has practice squads that don't count toward the 53 man roster.
