Looks like something out of a JAG or Fossil catalogue to me . 8G is a lot to pay for a piece that screams "fashion watch"

Serious question , how will it age ?

@thornwood36  I used to feel the same way about the three day date window until my eyesight began to deteriorate ( with age ). While I still dislike the look , I find it easier to read the date at a glance when I can see the day before and after . No more wondering if it is the third or the eighth .

I refuse to pay money to be marketed to , nor will I pay to consume advertising .

So long as you clearly label any advertorial content as such , and remain unafraid  to offer constructive criticism when warranted , you will have my support .

As it is , I think you have the balance about right .

When I see "carbon" used in this context , I think "cheap" , not "hi tech" !

3 weeks, 2 days ago on ITAnano Phantom Carbon Automatic 49 Watch Review

Reply

"Carbon" , particularly in this form is NOT a futuristic material , nor is it a rare or exclusive material ! Injection moulded carbon reinforced plastic has been used in cheap fishing reels for at least the last  30 years to the point of ubiquity.

While this material is light and strong and will resist impacts , it is relatively soft compared to just about any other case material and will mark and scratch very easily.

I can't see MB&F testing several examples of each model produced to destruction , but I would gladly volunteer to help Hublot carry out such a task . Hell , I'd even supply my own hammer !

This is what I picture when I hear the term" Dive Watch" (this or a Sub') , but I fear that Rolex has become a victim of their own success . They have been the subject of so many homages and blatant copies over the years that their style has become ubiquitous or even generic . I think that the Rolex enthusiast  of fifty years hence will be salivating over new releases that look remarkably similar to what we see in the present day catalogue .

Don't lose to much sleep worrying about future Rolex enthusiasts ability to "understand" this watch . Most current Rolex enthusiasts that I have come across can recite every dial , hand , band and script colour combination ever produced , the reason behind said variations , and what day of the week they were introduced . I can't see this or the watches themselves changing all that much in the future . .

A marvel of miniaturization , but not miniature enough . This thing looks bigger than the wrist it is mounted on !

This watch may carry the Ferrari emblem , but it carries non of the sensual ( almost sexual ) styling for which Ferrari is justifiably famous . As an example of hideous conspicuous consumption , something Hublot does very well ,  this thing succeeds admirably .

Not for me I'm afraid , I am more of a Porsche man myself .

Where I come from this is what we call gouging and it is the reason I will not even consider a new Rolex or its ilk . The value side of the equation is non existent . I realize that Rolex is not alone with their unreal pricing structure and it is the main reason I favour boutique brands or non luxury manufacturers . My most sincere and heart felt condolences to you and your family .  My first watch was a gift from my father when I was in second grade , given on the understanding (sadly mistaken) that I was old enough to look after it . My dad never wore a watch as he was a welder by trade and considered them a safety hazard in his line of work . He now wears a watch that I bought for him as a Christmas gift after he retired . Nothing fancy , but solid , unpretentious and reliable , much like the man himself .

@Ulysses31 Can't remember the last time one of my watches was crushed or penetrated , I did however run over one with a lawn mower once and that did not end well for the watch . I can assure you that even  steel cases and incabloc movements have their limitations.

I will be interested to see how these stand up to normal wear and tear . I like the design but fear they would become a scratched , horrible mess in short order , even without the intervention of lawn care appliances .
