1. Would you give up your sources if it came down to it? I hope not but when it is a fight for survival you never know. Maybe it'll end up being 'Apology for the reporting vs Outing the sources and playing the blame game'
2. I recall there have been incidents where stocks have been manipulated via sensationalist rumors. I am not saying that you did that or that is even the situation here but wouldn't you think that your initial report would influence prospects for this company? Do you feel you hurt the company with this news and should apologize (once the air clears perhaps?)
All this being said, someone has to report. There are times you will be right and there will be times you will be wrong. But there will always have to be someone to break the news and so don't let this setback take away the courage of journalism that you provide here (okay a little too melodramatic but you know what I mean). Just don't get super crazy paranoid cautious with your reporting in the future.

@nathanielmott @dawizard Don't use it doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it. These are free products, so it shouldn't really 'affect' anyone because you choose to use them, no one is forcing you. You wrote a big rant about how incompetent Instagram video is and emphasized how brilliant Vine is, which is fair enough but I don't think it affects you in any way either other than coming out in strong defense of Vine.
I don't hate Vine, this is just my reaction at seeing such a strong negative response to InstaVideo. My point was that Instagram Video should get a fair chance, I would have said the same thing had it been any other company.
The only thing I do agree are the sentiments that there is absolutely nothing Innovative about it. It cloned Vine and I can see how some people may be pissed off about it and find nothing good about it either.
1 year, 10 months ago on Narcissism in motion: Instagram’s new video features are a vanity mirror, not a communications tool
This post is sponsored by Vine and Vine fanboys....
I don't understand the hate (albeit a strong term) for a product which was rolled out literally hours ago and is probably not firing on all cylinders just yet (i.e. buggy) but have you seen the junk that gets published on Vine? Apparently there is a lot of crap on Vine too, without filters etc, it'll be everywhere, any new tools or existing tool. And to call it a tool for communication and Instagram a vanity piece is starting to sound like an Apple vs MS debate where MS (Instagram) has added a lot more features/frills but Apple fanboys love the simplicity and will never like Instagram.
Disclaimer - I don't use either. I am a consumer of Vines though through Twitterati. Give it some time, I think instagram will settledown. Give it some time and then bring out the pitchforks.

@Praveen Mittal And I once again got link-baited by PandoDaily having read this article earlier via their twitter feed. This time the twitter feed said "EXPLAINER:blah blah blah for Startups"...figured it was some more intelligent reporting but turns out a link to the same article as earlier. I can bet twitter or Sarah Lacy will come up with yet another deviation of the Title and link bait this. Getting really tired of Pando's link-baitiness...whatever that is.

@fengtality Seriously WTF...Pando is turning into a link bait trollish articles collection or so it seems sometimes....I find it amusing how many links are pushed out via Twitter with gimmicky catch phrases and different kinds. I don't know how many times I have clicked on the link to the same article more than once just with these different catchy headlines pushed out every few hours. Sneaky, sleazy, whatever. But I digress....off to sleep now. Will catch up with Pando tomm.

Sounds like you are saying Investors have a gambling problem and they are afraid to lose. They should not be gambling across different games with varying payouts and lower risk and instead be focused on high stakes at a few casinos which have the potential to make them big winners. Albeit, gambling is perhaps a different type of risk but you know what I mean...?

I agree with some of the sentiments. Change is never easy, I like the general UI and feel of the site. BUT the larger font size and a lot more scrolling AND the fixed banner at the top literally reduces my viewing space of just half the browser width (and on my 13" mac it looks really bad, reminds me of 90's) . And the ticker on the right is also consuming a good amount of space away from the rest of the viewing area.
So my problem is really not with the structure or UI but more so with the readability/spacing here. Get rid of the fixed banner at the top and we are even.
Please take a look at the site using smaller sized laptops - 11-13" (I know the main audience is probably the 15-17" beasts from Dell....just kidding)

@paulcarr w00t! I will have to give it a shot. Do you track how many RSS subscribers are out there? It feels like a cave-man technology now but it is pretty darn solid and I love reading articles out there. Perhaps because it is easier to do that at work :D

Wait a minute...I got some email like that about subscription expiring....didn't realize it was NSFW corp, haven't logged in there for....ever
It'll be great to have an email subscription but it would be even better if I can get an RSS subscription and read it amongst my other regular blogs like TC, Lifehacker etc
A $100 cover for it and $120 keyboard attachment....that's quite a handsome premium....Looking forward to iPad Mini now!

@ConnieConnors Nostalgia is one thing but in the last decade or so the market needs have changed. Like the focus shifted from Desktop to mobile computing and now making things more "social" (ughh I hate the abuse of this word). So I doubt we'll see things from 80's/90's come back to life here but they can be reborn to address current market needs but in a new avatar (which is perhaps what the original point here was)

@roryelgin @ciaranj @jholyhead @paulcarr @trevoragilbert Agreed. That was what I was thinking too. What is the point of having comments when you are going to try to call people names when they don't agree with you. If you just need a yes-man I think the writers have plenty of followers who love to read their articles and agree with every word and school of thought presented in them. That is fine. But by responding like this you are just taking it upon yourself to make this whole Pando is the new cool image a little shallow. I LOVE reading Pando articles but seeing stuff like this reminds me of MG. I love reading his content but when he goes on a personal tirade against non-Apple stuff and anyone who might oppose that thought will have to get into a verbal smackdown. And to his credit, he disabled comments on his site, which is fine.
So everybody just calm down, there is a reason why we are all here - to read good tech journalism. Getting into petty fights and calling names will only make you look immature and discourage participation.
And now I prepare to be smacked down ;)

So I did check it out and got some rather odd gift suggestions and with no price specification (not sure what each of those were worth). For someone who likes a spa, living in a house with a pool, doesn't have any crazy preferences I got suggestions like a ring with a gun barrell, a smoking kit and some other weird stuff. Not sold on this.

@roryelgin Good point, didn't realize that. I hope so too. I am sure Pando sources will be "anonymous" but when they post the stories, it'll be easy for those people to know which Uber they rode, thanks to the awesome Uber app =)
How many 'technology' folks would love to ride the Uber knowing that what they are saying could be reported to Pando anytime? I think this might not help Uber's marketing strategy. Ride with Uber - We will help spread your conversations!
Nothing illegal about it ofcourse but just feels like a bad idea for Uber to promote this idea. Heck I am good with getting more juice from Pando based on that but can't imagine a lot of 'important' celebrities taking Uber and talking shop knowing this.
Ummm okay, that was informative.

When you become so big and successful, that is when you stop taking risks (not completely but you know what I mean) and become over cautious about your every move. Everybody is watching and failure is just not going to look good - more to lose. Human psyche works in business as well. That is my take on why Google has turned from being cool to not-so-cool-or-innovative

It is also weird that people share this stuff on FB (though I am not surprised after seeing what other things people share over FB). It kind of shows this other side of them that is not so visible otherwise, like finding out someone is reading about celebrity gossip, wouldn't know had it not been for the social reader.
