We went to a similar thing about a year ago. Our casual 10man raiding guild started having issues with too many ppl taking breaks from WoW or quiting altogether, recruitment was fruitless. So we started thinking about the idea of merging with another guild with similar attitude to raiding. Luckily, we were able to find one. We did couple of test raids and after couple of weeks, we got absorbed by the other guild (their guild was higher level, existed longer and their website was better). We've been together ever since. They allowed one officer from our guild to become an officer in the new guild so there weren't really any issues. We were lucky to be able to find a matching guild in time. Now I know with certainty that the old guild would broke up otherwise. Interestingly enough, even more people started taking breaks now and we might start having problems due to not having enough active raiders. We've been recruiting but usually, only one person lasts out of the 3 you recruit. Unless some of the people who quit during Cata come back for MoP we might have to do another merge. Recruiting might not cut it again.
