@BlueMarvin agreed. He is starting every day on a first place team and has the chance to play for a contending team for the rest of his career. Strange that he wants out.

@GinFizzBear I would trade Beckett for Cain in a heartbeat. Otherwise, yes.

What do you think are the biggest needs for the Dodgers this year?

I would go with:

1. A solid way forward for the OF

2. A bullpen that does not include anybody named Chris Perez or Paul Malholm

3. A healthy infield

None of those involve major trades. Maybe a few call-ups. Thoughts?

I am pumped for the all-star game. The Home Run derby was so boring. Not just because Puig Dodgered it. Holy sleepy time. I think they need a new skills competition. Maybe a throwing contest for outfielders? I think it would be fun watching Dee & Hamilton play pickle, even. Get creative, MLB

I don't know what all of these nominations are about, but I'm pumped to see Grant Holmes already that high. I'm also pumped that we're heading into the All-Star break with the best record in the NL, the best pitcher on the planet, a dude in the homerun derby, and four all-stars.

I know Kemp's defensive numbers are atrocious, but I got to see Matt Kemp do this in person and there's no way Crawford makes that throw.

So with MLB offense in a huge decline, wouldn't it be prudent of the Dodgers to keep any bats they have at their disposable.

@Mike Petriello i really want to stand in the batter's box to see what pitches like this look like. Kershaw's curve, Mo's cutter etc. I don't know if I could even stand to watch a Chapman fastball.

First. Awesome post.

Second: How has Kemp been worth -0.2 WAR this season? Is his defense that bad? His offense hasn't been super-star level, but has Mike pointed out it's been pretty decent.

Third: I think Dodgers fans need to remember that we are still tied with the Giants. It's not like we won / ran away with the division. It's still June (for a day). Plenty of time for crazy things to happen eihter which way.

Also, Kershaw. Wow.

@Casey (Most Mediocre Poster Award Hopeful) @Mike Petriello @Dustin Nosler I was talking to coworkers about current players with HOF potential. We came up with the following...

Absolutes: Jeter, Pujols, Ichiro

Potentials: Kershaw, Cabrera, Posey, Wainwright, Cano

Watchouts: Trout, Puig, McCutchen

@Dustin Nosler Turner has been playing great. I wouldn't categorize him as a good.

Also, I was thinking more in terms of those guys on the field rather than Uribe, Hanley, Ethier, and Crawford. And yes - I know, injuries and LHP.

@PagansOedipalComplex @scottmbarrett definitely not over Kershaw, who has been an absolute beast save one really terrible inning. Beckett has a no-no and the third best ERA in the NL. This is the all-star game, those two things get him in. (Not saying he deserves a Cy Young so relax.)

@PagansOedipalComplex if any SP deserve a nod it's Kershaw and Beckett.  Can't see any position players other than Gordon making it w/o getting voted in.

Kemp is my favorite Dodger, so there's that, too.

I feel like Ethier might be one of those people who improves in a new setting (ala James Loney). I also think SVS is so important because he's the only other guy on the team who can play 1B if A-Gon gets hurt.

Anyways, I'm in LA for work this week. Going to Thursday night's game. Haven't bought tickets yet. Question: Best seats in the $20-30 range? Also, what time do I need to be driving through the gates to get there for the first pitch?

@efb @scottmbarrett for me it was less about emotion and more about the actual swing. For an extreme opposite look at Uribe (or Pence). Every swing looks like he's trying to break the ball into a million pieces.

That's not a better way to swing, but it "looks" like he really, really gives a shit. Kemp doesn't "look" that way when he swings. Looks can be deceiving, though.

Also. I watched last night's game and hadn't watched any in a while. Watching Kemp strike out made me understand why people get frustrated with him.

He is, for what it's worth, still my favorite Dodger. The only Jersey I ever bought (way back in 2010) and I still think he can be great again. But, his swing (and his whole demeanor, in fact) is so even keeled that it looks like he doesn't give a shit up there. I know (as do most of you) that he does, but I did think while i was watching that "oh man he doesn't really care." Then I snapped out of it.

Hey Dummies. Kemp is probably the least tradeable guy on the team. He's one of the highest paid players in the sport with the downward trending years of his career ahead of him. That, and he's not playing well.

He's not going anywhere. Plus, he's my favorite Dodger and I'm still holding out for a return to form...

sometime in the next week the Dodgers are going to have a rotation of Kershaw, Greinke, Ryu, Billingsley, Beckett, and Haren and an outfield of Kemp, Etheir, Crawford, SVS, and Puig. Pretty sure just their SP & Outfielders will cost more than about half of MLB full rosters.
