well as a techwriter you should know at sxsw in 2011 hurricane party was a massive hit there, then Forecast app popularized future check in and ultimately both shut down. Maybe another is like uberlife , on top of the other countless of either similar ambient find local people and what their doing apps or event type apps available. Basically this technology is incredibly commodity and for Google to purchase a company in a very tough market where countless other have failed, and a company with no traction and really what I would call a typical UI experience is an absolutely ludicrous idea. It was a very nice plug on a terrible premise. /end rant

@francoismathieu yeah lets take advantage of people when theres a state of emergency, instead. F it while we're at it, lets prioritize red cross relief to only the neighborhoods that pay the most in taxes and where the wealthiest people live.
finally, I know every publication wants to paint Dorsey as SV's golden boy because Square has a real business and probably the best target for IPO and for investors to cash out. Lets face it, hes always rode the coat tails of successful entrepreneurs (Ev and Biz, Keith Rabois). Its all about who you know.

@aaronklein you can also print out a set of pre generated codes in cases where you don't have access to a device.
its easy stop pushing apps and move back to web. Most are just wrappers anyways. Its google and apple that are fighting better performance for mobile browsers.

i use my chrome book daily over my tablet and phone, screen as big as tablet and as light as a tablet, but with trackpad, keyboard, and great battery life. Screen can be independently held up without some sort of stand, and can balance on anywhere vs a tablet/stand/kb setup. Tablet keyboard setup is more awkward because of having to switch from typing to touching screen.
the main issue is that google chromebook is not a full operating system, and trying to replace your daily life with a browser and not a full computer is tough. I think its sort of an unfair comparison but whatever.

@freshfunk sorry , but switching workflow to working with each individual app from a single email interface is the wrong direction.
@WasswaSomhairle are you serious, settings -> filter. In the from box, you type "facebook.com, twitter.com, etc" , next button, apply label, skip inbox (optional) done.

just create filters , and apply labels. Click on label to enter room. Problem solved.
theres tons of press written about this video. General sentiment on the internet is that these look awesome. There are those that are unimaginative and don't want to support future techs but thats another story. It accomplished exactly what its supposed to do.. build hype. Theres not one publication that didn't have a story about it or have people talking about it.
refuse to install apps with all the crap they are doing on the phone (stealing contacts without asking). Good to see people using mobile web more when it provides same functionality.
