@NH_NYR_88 The Rangers game wasn't the reason I'm going to Dallas, but it was the deciding factor when selecting a date. Oh, and being able to get seats 10 rows up from the glass behind the bench for $125. That helped, too.

@1NYN8V Isn't THIS the support group? Hi. My name is Brenda and I am an obsessive Ranger fan.

I'll be at tomorrow night's game at the Garden and Thursday's game in Dallas. I have both my Like It Nashty & Fear the Nash shirts ready to go. I'm going to get some Nashtyness at one of these games, right? Pretty please?
Awww, Kev, do you need a hockey hug?
I hate the word 'Rangertown.' Rangertown sounds like something Dubinsky would've used in a pickup line: "Hey, sexy. Wanna spend the weekend in Rangertown?" NO.
But this commercial is all kinds of awesome.

The Islanders win the chrome logo contest, but only because only NJ & them have anything different than the current logo made "shiny," and Jersey's just looks dumb and Christmas-y. Why did they ever think red & green was a good idea to begin with? Why even bother with doing "special chrome logos" if they're not going to be different?
Also, the number of different price points is absolutely asinine. 3, 4 price points is the max you should have.
I have an extra ticket ($189) to the Islanders game if anyone is interested.

@FireSather Are you 7 years old? Because if not, you're either a homophobe or just not funny.

At Crowd Goes Wild last week, they asked him a few questions, including "What's the best sports-related gift you've received?"
His answer, after thinking about it for a minute: "Groupie."
God, I miss that man.
@johnnyb3910 I'll be at the game in Dallas on the 21st. 11 rows up from the glass behind the benches for $125/seat. I can't wait to mess with Texas. :)

@gmen9892 To be fair, the Sabres have 7 points. The Sabres are lucky they have people coming to the games, period, and that those people are not throwing things at the players.
@chicksbro What else do you expect in a suite? Suites were not designed for the average fan. Suites have never, ever been for the average fan. Even pre-renovation, a suite at a Rangers game started at $6000 (and I think they seated 16 if memory serves), and that's before buying food & booze. They are significantly more now (and Knicks suites cost even more). I'm lucky enough to get invited to a suite once in a while, but I am the ONLY one amongst the corporate people wearing a jersey and yelling at the ice. Everyone finds my fervor "entertaining." It's annoying, but that's the way it is. Why is everyone so shocked about this? This should not be news to anyone.
Nice piece. Good call on the guest posts, Kev -- not that I don't love the NYRB regulars, but a fresh voice is cool, too.
I'm also sad that the Garden isn't louder (I can only scream so loud from the top of Section 223), but my reactions:
1. It's not about being family-friendly -- the vast majority of Ranger fan families can't afford to bring their kids at these prices, and that's a problem -- but it is 100% about bringing in more money. Period.
2. This is not just a MSG or NYC thing. In every sports facility, the seats closest to the field/ice/court are the most expensive, which means they are generally bought by companies and/or rich people, who (except for Spike Lee) tend to sit quietly and drink their gin & tonics for most of the game. I go to a lot of sporting events in and outside of NYC and you see this at every single game. This is not a new phenomenon, nor is it going away.
3. I forget who made the comment that winning the Cup was "the problem," but... no. I mean, I'll happily take that "problem" any time, but it this just strikes me as B.S. It also doesn't seem to have been an issue for Chicago. The UC is crazy loud. Maybe it's that 1 Cup is a problem, but 2 Cups is the solution? GET ON IT, RANGERS. :)
4. Lastly, let's not over-react here. Last season and the first half of this season were so, so, so very painful. But aside from that, let's not fall into the trap of saying "it's never going to be like it was back in the day..." because that is, in my opinion, not being a good fan. The games are still fun to go to. The Garden is still packed (looking at you, NJ, Dallas & south Florida). And I was at the game where Richie tied it with 6 seconds left, and the Garden was absolutely C-R-A-Z-Y. But you can't expect the crowd to be like that when the Rangers are losing 4-nothing to the Devils. If we're forking over larger amounts of cash, you're damn right we're gonna be pissed if the team doesn't make it worth our while. It works both ways.
Just my, uh, 4 cents there.
@gravey94 I'm in for damn near any deal that ousts Sather. And I'm absolutely positively in for any deal that involves Dolan no longer owning the Rangers.

@Kevin DeLury @laxrat45 At this point, I'm more worried about putting the puck in the net than being intimidating, and given that our tough guy options consist of Dorsett, Mashinter & McIlrath, I'd rather we trade for a better tough guy (read: one who can do something useful in addition to punching), or go for full-on finesse.
@gravey94 Wow, I had not looked at that math (mostly because it makes me feel really, really old), but that is an excellent point. That's also been a big problem for Edmonton, and their youngsters are way better than ours (at least in theory).
@Kevin DeLury @laxrat45 I guess I'm just not seeing this "spark" that Mashinter allegedly brings to the team. I've been watching him to see what I'm missing that everyone else seems to be loving, but he hasn't done anything to impress me yet, and I haven't see the team be any better with him in the lineup, either.
@laxrat45 We have Dorsett for toughness and I actually see some offensive upside with him (although the amount of stupid penalties he's taken is a real problem), so do we really need Mashinter AND Dorsett?
Not for nothing, if Nash were in the lineup, Pyatt's role would be able to be reduced to his more suitable role on the PK, etc. If we had Nash back, this entire issue would be moot.
I totally agree that Pyatt (along with several other Rangers) could be a LOT better, but let's look at Pyatt and Mashiner:
Both players have 10 PIMs. In Mashinter's case, he's played 4 games and has 2 shots, is a 0 +/- and has no points. In Pyatt's case, he's played 14 games, has 19 shots, is a -8 and has 1 assist.
5 of those -8 are from games where NYR lost by a combined total of 5 to 24, so if Mashinter had played those games instead of Pyatt, you can be certain that he'd be in the negative, too.
Given this, can you please explain to me why you feel the Rangers would be SO MUCH better with Mashinter in the lineup? Because the math does not bear that out. He's not even in the top 10 in points in Hartford.
Both of them underwhelm me, but I'd love to know what I'm missing.
