@Keita Mikami @Chris Jackson@DBrimSame here, but the problem is that window where you get that much usually only lasts about 4-5 years, at most. There are only so many Mike Hessmans out there. Most guys get the journeyman role for only a short period, then either their skills start to erode with age/injuries, or they just have an off year and it pretty much ends the interest of teams. See Barden, Brian, if you need an example.

@Keita Mikami @Chris JacksonYou could argue that it would. It depends how the Dodgers view his mental toughness. Because you have to be mentally tough. Sometimes they just won't risk it, sometimes they will. It will be up to Ned, De Jon, et al, to make the final decision.

@Keita Mikami @Chris Jackson@DBrimSome veterans do. They can make anywhere from $50,000 to $75,000 for the five months they are playing. Some teams are starting to raise the price, too, to encourage vets to stay put. I've heard some teams are offering up to $100,000 for the season now. But most vets would still jump at the chance to go to Japan or Korea and make $300,000 and up. Only guys who never get that shot are typically middle infielders and catchers.

@Disgruntled Goat @Chris JacksonI do agree with Dustin on the part that Lee won't be shuttled back and forth. They have Fife and Magill for that.

@Keita Mikami @Chris JacksonMagill's signing bonus was tiny. Lee is already a $5.25 million investment. You might be willing to expose a guy signed cheaply to the ABQ experience. Not so sure about the guy with the biggest signing bonus in franchise history.

@Keita Mikami @DBrimIt's about as fun as you'd imagine. The Dodgers are good, at least, at finding guys who handle the journeyman life well. Just about all the vets I've interviewed with the Topes the last four years have been good interviews. It's often the younger players who are starting to realize that is their fate who tend to be more prickly.

I love when I get name-dropped in a story.
But let's take a poll, who really thinks Lee will end up with the Topes? I know VND was quite vocal many moons ago that he'll never pitch here.

@DBrim @The Sound of DINGERS!Agreed. Right now if they deal Franklin, it's for an MLB-ready RH bat or a starting pitcher. Plus prospects.

Farewell to SellBlock. Definitely one of the more interesting characters we ever had here.
And Brim, I'll have to learn to make GIFs like these to send you if Guerrero ends up in ABQ.

@TooManyEllipses The most of any team was the Red Sox with 8, followed by Pirates and Cubs with 7, Astros with 6, and Rangers with 5. So with 4, Dodgers still rank in upper half.

@Purps the Drank @Chris JacksonThe Sky Sox have an extra 1,000 feet on ABQ. I'd drop him down to somewhere between .814 and .864 here.

@PagansOedipalComplex @Chris JacksonHe wins the C.J. Retherford Memorial "We have no one else to play 3B at AA" Award.
@Purps the Drank @Chris JacksonHe only had a .914 OPS in his one season at Colorado Springs.
At least the Dodgers have Uribe. Think of all the poor minor-league writers who are going to have to cover these projected starters at the top three levels in the organization.
Albuquerque: Brendan Harris (MLB: .206/.252/.355, AAA: .237/.360/.342)
Chattanooga: Daniel Mayora (Independent league: .306/.356/.419)
Rancho Cucamonga: Scott Wingo (.236/.380/.348) or Brandon Dixon (.185/.227/.261)
And mind you, Harris, Mayora, and Wingo are all really second basemen.
@Mike Petriello @Chris JacksonPitting our head designer versus our Dodgers writer (we still had one back then) was the best. They were polar opposites in every way, but debating baseball's stats vs. scouting was epic stuff.
2 weeks, 5 days ago on The Paul DePodesta Era, Ten Years Later
I moved to LA at the start of 2004, so I was working in a newsroom during the DePodesta era. The clear line between those who supported him and opposed him in our office was the age of 40. If you were over 40, DePodesta was an affront to the game itself. If you were under 40, he was the revolution the game needed. It made for some spirited debates.
Those debates usually ended when someone's shitty computer crashed. Or the fax machine jammed (yup, we still had one). Or somehow the printer went offline. Our newsroom tech was terrible.
I recorded a 3-hour block and still missed the USA-Russia shootout. Son of a ...
