@PagansOedipalComplex @Chris Jackson Might want to give him a few games here before you think of that. I'd still anticipate an August call-up. Give him a few more games at 3B/SS in addition to 2B, let him get his feet back under him. Think of it as a second spring training. After this long of a layoff without doing any baseball work, he'll need it.
10 months ago on Dodgers 6, Cardinals 0: Andre Ethier Is Still Alive, Clayton Kershaw Is Still Ridiculous
This is not the most exciting Topes game to recap, but I got some updates on the health of Joc Pederson and Alex Guerrero, and a reason for Red Patterson getting pushed back in the rotation that sounds ... hazy.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello Japan, apparently.
@Brooklyn Baby Supposed to rehab Tues/Weds. They're in El Paso, so unfortunately, no Elbert-apalooza for me.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello Thank you. He's had so many injuries I had lost track.
What is Scott Elbert coming back from, TJ surgery or shoulder surgery? I can't recall what his injury was this time around.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello Not enough of either.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello It wasn't very good before those guys got promoted.
The right-handed hitting Walter Ibarra is 9-for-60 this year against lefties.
That's your random stat of the night. You're all welcome.
I honestly can't say I remember seeing Juan Abreu pitch before, but man, he is atrocious, even for this bullpen. So far in the 7th inning he's walked the leadoff guy, given up a double, a sac-fly, wild pitched in another run, and now another walk. And a single. Sheesh.
@Superba @Chris Jackson @Smoking Man There's not much in the southern part of the state. The mountain towns (Silver City, Ruidoso) are kinda neat. But go to the southeast and you're pretty much in West Texas.
Even Berryhill getting ejected has failed to liven up this game. I'm gonna enjoy the next four days without this team. I hate typing that, but it's true.
@Smoking Man @Chris Jackson Though I did enjoy the red chile mac 'n cheese they served up here tonight.
@Smoking Man Christmas
@DBrim Wow, a town so small I don't even think it has its own high school.
@Superba There is no consensus up here. Very subjective subject.
@DBrim Raton's nice. I prefer the Taos-Red River-Angel Fire "circle" in north-central NM.
@Smoking Man @Superba He's talking about green chile stew, not the green chile itself. All the good stuff comes from Hatch, everyone knows that. But the stew is a specialty in the northern part of the state.
@Superba I'll take an informal poll of the press box ...
@Smoking Man @Chris Jackson No one should ever have to return a beer at a microbrewery. That pretty much violates the Geneva Convention.
@Smoking Man @Chris Jackson They just got a new brewer so they're moving up the list. His first batches are a vast improvement.
@Superba @Chris Jackson Not many games at all. Guerrero's not a SS. Arruebarrena's a very good SS (but not even a league-average hitter).
@No-no Happy and Tired Math Cat @Chris Jackson He achieved sentience only recently. Bet you didn't know that.
@Smoking Man @Chris Jackson We keep opening new breweries here. So I'm pretty good.
@No-no Happy and Tired Math Cat Blah is Isotopes Park.
@Mike Petriello @Chris Jackson Somehow I'd say ... no. Unless you like your closer to give up lots of walks.
@efb @Chris Jackson Let's see, 1985, I had just seen Godzilla 1985 so ... Godzilla.
The Topes have become a dreadfully boring team. Fire off some questions to entertain me, people.
@Brooklyn Baby @Chris Jackson @Lobo If you can live with .220/.280/.300 with great defense, then good luck.
10 months ago on Dodgers @ Royals June 25, 2014: So Clint Robinson Is Here For Some Reason
@Lobo @Chris Jackson The streak aside, I still don't see him ever being a good hitter at the MLB level.
@P_F_P @Chris Jackson Sadly, I'll be gone before she rises from her coffin.
Tomorrow's Topes lineup is gonna have the fans in ABQ just plain ecstatic.
C-FedEx (best player now, laugh away at that), 1B-Aaron Bates (I assume), 2B-Walter Ibarra or Delvis Morales, SS-Erisbel Arruebarrena, 3B-Alex Liddi, LF-Jeremy Hazelbaker, CF-Trayvon Robinson, RF-Mike Baxter, with Griff Erickson and Johnny Monell on the bench. High-scoring games await!
@efb Oh, lovely.
@Mike Petriello @Chris Jackson How exciting that will be to add a guy who's 2-for-9 in seven games.
@Mike Petriello @Chris Jackson I think there were just some pitchers left. Then again, maybe Aaron Bates? I think he's still in the system.
Man, I hope O'Koyea Dickson's plane isn't late tomorrow, because I don't think there's a single player on the Topes roster who can play 1B. Well, Baxter, but if Joc can't play, then they're short of outfielders if Baxter moves. Thanks, Frank, for leaving us with all this awesome position player depth on the farm.
@InsideThePark (same color scheme) A better flight.
10 months ago on Who Gets Cut When Juan Uribe Is Activated?
@TellMyWifeISaidHello @Tony Fernandez (MSTY Most Informative Poster) @Lance Uppercut @Purple Drank I'm having fun arguing with this guy. He's starting to get defensive.
Topes kicked some butt today. It's about time they did that. Enjoy the article. I'm off to watch soccer. And drink beer, of course. Viva time off for a road trip!
10 months, 2 weeks ago on What’s The Upside Of Keeping Chris Perez?
Topes win 11-1. In 2 hours, 40 minutes. Thanks, boys. Got plenty of time to get Back Alley Draft House for the USA-Ghana match.
Carlos Frias today for the Topes: 8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 Ks. Threw 75 of 105 for strikes. Wow.
@steelmohawk Oh my lord, I'm dying after reading that. Those pants ... oh, those pants.
@P_F_P @Chris Jackson I kinda hope she does. Fly off the handle in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
FedEx lives! 2-run HR to RF.
@steelmohawk @Chris Jackson I don't believe so. I think they're using him out of the bullpen for a while, not sure if he's going to go back to starting or not.
@Superba @Chris Jackson Ooo, I'm gonna use that going forward.
Topes lead 4-1. C'mon, Frias, now let's start zipping through this! It's getaway day and I'm wearing my USA jersey so I intend to be at Back Alley Draft House, beer in hand, at 4 pm.
@Disgruntled Goat @Chris Jackson I am become death, the destroyer of prospects' fragile psyches.
@ThtsaPaddlin @Chris Jackson Our grounds crew would beg to differ.
We're only the 1st inning, but the Topes have three hits and a walk off a lefty, and a pretty good lefty at that in Marlins prospect Brian Flynn. The hits were by Trayvon (double), Pederson (RBI single), Clint Robinson (single). Joc and Clint are LH hitters. And before anyone (we all know who) screams "ABQ!" all the hits were on the ground.
