@DINGERS! Still needs to work on hitting lefties a bit. But if there's a long-term injury in LA, I could see him get the call over Buss or Baxter.

@Lobo @Chris JacksonI'll try to check in. When they're on the road I won't have much to say. Plus I'll be watching a lot of hockey for the next eight days.

@Lobo @Chris JacksonNot that I can see. The coaching hasn't seen anything (or at least they're not telling me about it). Vizcaino and Castro have been around all homestand to work with him.

@DINGERS! I'm more impressed by his overall plate discipline. The kid's eye at the plate is better than most guys already in MLB.

@Lobo @Chris JacksonMaybe. It's mostly mental, just an issue of finding his comfort zone. I think it's possible he'll get it by midseason, but there's no way to know for sure.

Guerrero played 5 games on this homestand, so the dreaded SSS warning should be applied here, but ...

He's not ready on defense. Now, his range is good for a 2B. He can catch that ball, that's not an issue. The issue is throwing. He tends to double-clutch a lot. You can tell he's thinking, almost too hard, about not screwing up. And then he screws up. (If this sounds like I'm retyping a comment about Dee from 3 years ago, I probably am). He did look a little smoother with the throws by Game 5. Still, if he's trying too hard not to screw up on the throws down at AAA, he won't do any better (and probably worse) in LA. I'm guessing that unless Gordon implodes completely, Guerrero will spend the bulk of this season with the Topes.

Now, as for the hitting, despite VND's "anyone can homer at ABQ" (she has clearly never seen Rojas try to hit a baseball), I think Guerrero is looking good there. Remember, the Dodgers do not care about the end result (homer, double, flyout, etc.). They care about how his swing looks, how he's approaching certain situations (0-2, 3-2, RISP, etc.), and how he's handling different types of pitches in those situations. Right now I see a guy who's showing some patience at the plate (not every AB, but no one does), seems to have a good grasp of when to swing and when not to, and is using the entire field instead of just being pull-happy.

Go ahead and chew on that for a bit.

Oh, and since Dustin always says it, I'll add #NotAScout here, too.

And since they're on the road, I'm gonna go to a wedding today and get really drunk. Woots!

Topes sweep the Chihuahuas behind (gasp) good starting pitching! Red Patterson makes it four-for-four on quality starts in the series. Bullpen still needs some work, but I think this Topes team might be fun to cover after all. Especially if they keep finishing in under 3 hours.

Upstaging Pederson tonight is ... (wait for it) ... Griff Erickson! He's 4-for-4 with a home run, three doubles, two runs and four RBI.

Final line on Zach Lee tonight: 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts. 53 of his 89 pitches were for strikes. And I would say his pure stuff looked better the other night, so that makes this even more impressive.

All the non-prospects did well for the Topes in the first inning. Pederson hit into a 3-6-3 DP, Guerrero flew out to end the inning. In between, Romak homered and Buss had an RBI single. Zach Lee had a pretty good first inning, allowing just a walk and striking out Kyle Blanks.
