I'm not sure what to do with this information.
I thought the title of this was "The problem with punching Brandon Belt." That would explain why he's riding the pine, I guess.
@theJTshaw It's never too early for the shortstop of the future!
@JustinPowell Thanks for this question. Bandilla is someone I've wanted to watch for a while so this is a key question.
@Robert Haymond Thanks for the question. This is a very pertinent one as the big league starters have struggled a lot lately.
@Robert Haymond Thanks for reading! I appreciate all of BCB's readership. Without you guys I'd be annoying my boyfriend and his cat with my minor league blah blah.
@TSF Perez definitely has an arm. When he and Peguero played together in San Jose, I saw baserunners just up and quit trying to run on them. It took only a few weeks for word to spread about the league that both had cannons and were accurate.
@FANsince1976 @chelmrtz @RogerM For the Giants to up and move to another city, it would be necessary to have a facility already in place for them. Without a stadium in MH or SC, and no plans to build one, that wouldn't work too well.
@sfgiantsgirl I'm glad the DPL guys were so helpful. Next time I go to the DR I want to go in the spring/summer so I can see all the stuff I missed my first time around, namely the DSL. Thanks for letting me cut in when Bobby Evans was there.
@RogerM Many thanks! As for the team's sustainability in San Jose, that topic has been breached the last few times they've hosted the season preview event, but this time around nobody brought it up. When they did discuss it publicly, they remained committed to keeping the team in San Jose, with no mentions of a new ballpark. Although they keep getting money from the city to upgrade the facility. We're talking minor improvements like the BBQ area expansion, an awning over the seats down each line, etc. It kinda seems like they're in a holding pattern, just like everyone else in this A's to SJ scenario.
When the time comes that a ML team moves to San Jose, then yes the little Giants will have to move. It's like what happened to the Phoenix Firebirds (RIP) when the Diamondbacks entered the league. Hopefully in that case, we'll get a favorable scenario like when the Firebirds became the Fresno Grizzlies, although I have no idea where the little Giants would go in the Bay Area or NorCal.
When it comes to minor league fodder, Bond isn't so bad. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot as a backup infielder. I know he can hit and get on base and he's a reliable fielder. We could do a lot worse as Giants fans.
For what it's worth, I was actually reading up on Soptic for a future report for my other gig (writing about prospects for fantasy baseball) as a possible closer. Weeks ago. I'm fairly optimistic about this trade, especially if he ends up in San Jose where I can keep a close eye on him.
@ariess @Chris Quick It was kind of a drag that he didn't play a lot. He had 33 at-bats and played basically three weeks between the end of October and the end of November, with a few week layoff in between.
@RogerM @FoothillsRyan @Chris I said above that I'm going to do in-depth scouting reports this season in San Jose for almost all the players (maybe all, who knows how bored I could get). Crick is high on my list. I aim to set the record straight on everyone.
Baseball America had a little blurb on Villalona's return to the US and he will be in spring training.
@FoothillsRyan I plan on doing in-depth scouting reports for basically everyone in San Jose this year. This may or may not require me to purchase my own radar gun (BCB expense account?).
