last year I had Mesoraco, Rizzo, Stanton, Brantley, and Seager on my team and needless to say their breakouts lead me to victory. I think Arenado is poised for a 5-6 WAR season, it's hard to convince people though.

I was starting to settle on Nolan Arenado, but my co-owner wants to go with Hanley.

Any opinions on the Hanley Boston experiment?

I think Oakland's offseason moves have been fantastic.

Lawrie is one of the youngest players in baseball, he has star potential, and he will contribute right away. It's rare for a player like that to become available, he really helps extend Oakland's window of contention.

Semien doesn't have star potential but he's similarily long term contributor, and if you take the time to look around MLB you'll notice just how weak the 2nd base position is right now. Semien might be top 15 at that position, despite his namelessness.

I know we associate the philosophy of building clubhouses with a mixture of youth and veterans as being cliche, but it really is the most practicle team building strategy. Oakland had the goal of extending their window further into the future whilst still competeing now. It's seems as though their offseason moves are all over the place, but it's sort of like patching up multiple holes in a sinking ship. Some of those holes are in 2015, others 2018.

Players like Zobrist and Escobar help them plug the 2015 holes. Billy Butler is actually younger than most free agents (28), and other than 2014 he's been one of the top DHs. I'm sure Billy Beane is giving Butler a bonus for succeeding in that role, as there have been studies suggesting that many players suffer a production penalty making the transition from fielding to DHing.

This is entering TLDR territory, but a must salute the fellows in Oakland, they really know how to pilot a franchise.

@Lobo @Table (dick) @Mike Petriello I like Zips better

" ZiPS - The work of Dan Szymborski over at Baseball Think Factory, the ZiPS projections uses weighted averages of four years of data (three if a player is very old or very young), regresses pitchers based on DIPS theory and BABIP rates, and adjusts for aging by looking at similar players and their aging trends. It’s an effective projection system, and is displayed at FanGraphs for off-season and in-season projections."

@Lobo @Table (dick) @Mike Petriello For instance Streamer used to use only 2+ years of defensive data, now they use 5.

So Kendrick's defensive projection is probably held down by his 2010.

I would imagine that it's weighted for more recent performances to matter more, but I can't say for sure. If not 2010 would hurt him even more.

@Mike Petriello @Table (dick) Defensive projection is too low, it's basically acting as if 2014 didn't happen, and that he's in the midst of a steady decline. Looking at the last 4 years I'm more inclined to believe that 2013 was just a down year.
