@TaoMaas Not saying dude isn't important to the team but let's not make Maynor out to be Westbrook or KD or Harden. He's not an All Star or near All Star. He's important but you not gonna make me believe he's the difference between "lucky to be in playoffs" and "winning the west".
@TaoMaas No disrespect to Maynor (who I think is a starter in the league) or Cook (great shooter) but we talking bout backups. Role players. Not one of the key playmakers. When I say "key", I'm talking bout your Durants, Westbrooks, Gasols, Randolphs, Gays, etc. Harden is more of a backup PG than Maynor. OKC has the best record in the league missing those guys. Memphis finished 8th last year missing Rudy and were in like the 5th slot missing ZBo. So this is probably as "full strength" as we'll see between these two teams.
@FF_pickups When the playoffs start, Brooks needs to do what Phil Jax used to do...complain about the refs or drop subtle hints about the refereeing. The refereeing decides how a game is going to be played. A physical game doesn't suit OKC while it would favor a team like Memphis or the Lakers. If the game is called tight, KD will not be touched and it's impossible to guard him if you can't touch him. All you can ask the refs to do is be consistent in each game. If you gonna call touch ones over here, make sure you call the touch ones on the other end.
@FF_pickups It's not a foul unless they call it. Okay, that got me through my morning. Good game boys! See you in the postseason. Good luck
@Jax Raging Bile Duct Shane held it down but KD abused him. Young and Allen would push him off his spot, grab and hold him and just frustrate him.
@FF_pickups Oh yeah, that's the strategy. I wouldn't call it "hack and pray" but being physical is the strategy. Let them know you there. Put a body on them. That's what I tell the kids I coach. Don't play dirty but being physical isn't a bad thing. OKC is a finesse team. To beat a finesse team, you gotta throw off that timing. Muck it up.
@Jax Raging Bile Duct Now all respect to Shane but he's lost a step. KD ABUSED him last year. Shane tried to play KD how he does Kobe and that doesn't work. With KD, you gotta get up in him (play physical) and try to throw him off his game. It's why Arenas was able to guard him last night. I think OKC has the best chance to win the West but I really like our chances against them.
@FF_pickups That's true. But my guy, IF is a huge word. :-) IF they called every illegal action, they wouldn't have enough players to finish the game. You find out how far the refs are going to let you go and you work in that area. Do you play bball? If not, do you play any other sports? It's like baseball, some umpires have a bigger strike zone. You just work it.
@FF_pickups If I know the route, I can stand there and not move and it's not a foul. I can slow you down if I see you running. Holding and throwing hips/elbows are obvious fouls but the vets know how to bend the rules enough to make it work. All the great defensive teams push it to the limit.
@FF_pickups I read the rules but it's a contact sport. It's not football but it's not supposed to be easy either. It's not a walk through. You're gonna get touched and bumped. That's just how the game is played.
@mjokc88 @FF_pickups Guys are 3-1 against us this year. Can't argue with that. I think by the time we see them in the playoffs this year, our chemistry and health will be there to match up quite well with them. And MJ, no need for the "ghetto ass" references. You don't know me and I don't know you. We fans of our teams. Chill
@FF_pickups Yes, I believe Memphis should be shooting more FTs than OKC. They go to the post and produce most of their points there. What Memphis did last night to KD and others is bump them when they ran through the paint, which you should do. Bumping, hitting an offensive player throws off their timing. I grew up a Pat Riley Knicks fan and that's how I think all defense should be played. If the refs allow it, use it. Players flop, refs call it. It's the game. Learn the rules and play it to the best of your ability.
@mjokc88 @FF_pickups Naw, I read ESPN after our games and check out the other teams' blogs. You mad? LOL
@mjokc88 Yeah, they did choke away the 9 point lead. Pissed me off. That's where not having Conley hurt. They pulled it out in the end though. I'd love to play you guys in a 7 game series with all of our players. We played OKC just once with our full roster over the last year. I'm ready for the playoffs
@mjokc88 @FF_pickups My guy, I said KD and Russ were the best players on the court THEN it's Zbo. The rest of the board is holding a good convo. You the only one that's offended.
@FF_pickups They are used differently. What I'm saying is it's Gasol, Zbo, Rudy vs Harden, Russ and KD. Perimeter vs Post. So it's basically 60-65 points for us vs 70 points for you. The difference comes in the rest of the players.
@Jax Raging Bile Duct Agreed. I think KD can and will play tougher than he did last night. I also think ZBo will get in better shape and be more of a factor than he was last night. I also know Conley will run the team better than it was ran last night. Again, no guarantees here. I said it last year that OKC vs Memphis would be the rivalry for at least 2 or 3 years.
@mjokc88 So you mad that somebody isn't praising your team? You can't talk bball w/o getting offended? I like talking to others. get their viewpoint on their team and others. It's all good MJ. You mad? Stay mad.
@FF_pickups @mjokc88 I'm not looking at our record right now. As long as we win enough to get in the playoffs is all I care about at this point. We're incorporating a HUGE part of our team back into the mix after he was gone for 2.5 months. I know it's going to take some time and we're going to suffer some losses. I know we've seen the Lakers and OKC within the last week and we were able to pull out the win playing our style of ball. It's not pretty and it's not praised by the mainstream media but it's going to be something to watch when the playoffs start. You take away KD or Russ for 2.5 months and lemme see how your team looks while he's gone and when he comes back. No excuses. Just the facts.
@FF_pickups Ok, when I KNOW you're faster than me and its YOUR game the faster we play, why would I play your game if I'm trying to win? Of course I'm going to play my style that wins me games. That style is throw it in the post and score in the paint. You usually get hit more in the paint than when you shooting jumpers. Yes, we play physical defense but that's what works. No offensive player likes to get hit. Some guys can play through it. KD isn't one of them so when you get physical with him, you're able to knock him off just enough to give yourself a chance. Sounds like you mad that the Grizz know how to walk that line.
