@ak825 @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @OCDodger @TheConman @Dustin Nosler You haven't seen it in large part because girls are steered away from baseball at a young age. If there were large numbers of girls playing baseball from T-ball through high school & into college, I think you'd see a lot more skill than you think.

@OCDodger @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @TheConman @ak825 @Dustin Nosler There's a difference between thinking it would be very rare (that's obvious) and to get extremely angry at anyone who suggests there might be one or two absolutely exceptional women who could be among the 1000 or so best male players.

@OCDodger @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @TheConman @ak825 @Dustin Nosler There are literally hundreds of players in MLB RIGHT NOW who can't throw 90+ or hit dingers. Baseball is a sport that requires vastly different skill sets for different people. Middle infielders need to be quick and agile. Crafty lefties and Dan Haren can get by throwing in the mid 80s. If you have great skill, you can get by without great size and strength.

@P_F_P I mean... Kershaw was way better in almost every statistical category. Lower ERA, FIP. Higher K/9. Higher WAR. DIckey walked slightly fewer, and won a bunch more games.

@Jacopo (How is this a bad plan!) @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) From his FAQ:

How many home runs have you caught?

I've caught about 1,400 in batting practice and nine (eight on the fly) in games. I've attended about 1,400 games, so these numbers aren't as impressive as they seem. Dodger Stadium is a difficult park for catching homers.

@Tymathee This is a much more acceptable use of "if you take away the bad results" because it's an extreme outlier. Wilson's poor performances aren't outliers, they're just the result of inconsistency.

@Uncultured Bastard Actually... you only need to take away 13 of his other 21 games to get his ERA to 0.00....

@P_F_P @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @moneynow27  @PagansOedipalComplex If you just look at his MLB career numbers, he's a terrible, no good, below replacement player. But... he got better this year. He showed something different in the minors.

@P_F_P @moneynow27  @PagansOedipalComplex So, the answer to "would it be a good idea to platoon Dee & Guerrero," in my opinion, is no. I know you disagree. We don't have to agree on this, but I thought it important to lay out the basis for my opinion.

@P_F_P @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @moneynow27  @PagansOedipalComplex And that would make sense if all other things were equal. But, alas, they're not. Dee brings far more value on the basepaths, and we can safely assume he brings more value on defense. And that doesn't even get into the other effects of platooning, and how not playing every day can screw with a guy's timing.

@P_F_P @Dave! (but probably Justin Turner, maybe) @PagansOedipalComplex Unfortunately, no. Minor league central only goes back to 2011, and Dee was already at ABQ by then. The point isn't the ABQ-inflated numbers, it's that there isn't much of a drop from his splits against righties.

@P_F_P @moneynow27  @PagansOedipalComplex 117 of his career 331 PA against lefties have been this year.

He is not Ethier. His platoon splits are not so bad that he needs to be platooned.

@P_F_P @PagansOedipalComplex .291/.357/.330 against lefties in his minor league career (or at least the portion of his minor league career covered by Minor League Central). No power, but he could certainly get on base.

I look forward to seeing Guerrero staring out from the dugout, bored out of his skull, because Donnie would rather have Rojas' veteran bat take pinch hit opportunities.
