More encouraged by this loss than by several recent lackluster wins. Russ played great for the first time in a couple of weeks. His play will determine if we win the chip IMO. Plus Serge hitting jump shot after jump shot very encouraging. Opposition needs to be aware of that which will open up the lane for others. Only question is who is serge gonna guard against Dallas to allow him to be out there assuming Mavs crunchtime are Kidd, Terry, Marion, dirk, & hayward/mahimi? Seems to me these are centers that serge can handle - play him at the 5 for once.

Cole is active, will give him that, but also saw cousins drive around him like he was standing still in post-up plays on several occasions. Very limited lateral quickness, pretty standard trait for big, hulking white guys. I would not feel comfortable amnestying Perk in order to keep both James & Serge if it means relying on Cole to become our starting center. No big issue w/him getting 10 mpg as a backup though.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Denver beat LAL (assuming standings hold) prior to us getting a crack at them. Denver's 8-4 in April, gallonari is back after a couple of injuries, & Bynum may have mentally checked out after being benched in the game yesterday. Any way you slice it, hard to see how it could've played out any better for us matchup-wise. That being said, I participate in a NBA playoff bet every year & I'm picking SA over miami in 6 in the finals. When $'s involved I think w/my head not my heart.

@Old Man Game Hope you're right but don't know that we can necessarily conclude from this that he'll be A-ok. Most times you get one & recover ok in a day or two but it's as fickle an injury as there is, potentially w/ebbs & flows from day to day, see Sidney Crosby & Kevin love. Regarding the suspension length, I was thinking 5-games or so last night but the more I've seen the replay, seems evident the guy truly is insane. If you're stern, can you truly feel confident the guy won't completely snap in the blink of an eye, pick up a chair or something and actually kill or paralyze an opponent, ref or fan? I wouldn't put it past that nutjob and how could stern live w/himself if something like that occurred. I think the punishment will be extremely harsh.

Regarding Serge's lack of minutes supposedly proving that he's not an elite defender - come on Royce, can't believe you wrote that. Damn near every okc fan has been clamoring for him to get more minutes since about game #15. Because Brooks chooses to play the immortal fish in the dreadful small ball lineup or nazr in any line up instead of Serge speaks more to dumb coaching decisions than it does to proving he's not an elite game-impacting defender. Can nitpick his pnr communication all you want, but so far as being a bottom line, game-changing,'the reason the oponent's possession is unsuccessful' defender, only lbj is in his league IMO. Am beginning to think that Serge must have dissed Royce in the locker room a time or two cause he is consistently undervalued or flat out slighted in the writing on DT IMO.

Am not overly distraught w/the loss, we're a 2-seed with it, a 2-seed w/a win. Seems we're becoming an above average defensive team & if Russ can somehow find his jump shot, all will be well in the world. Not sure what's so 'silly' about the harden or serge debate & how this game provided any kind of definitive proof that James is the choice. Serge is a once in a generation type shotblocker, is 22, a 6-10 freak athlete w/still limited bball experience, is the main reason we're becoming a good defensive team & might be able to be had for 4-6 mil less than james per year. There was a national article from a week or 2 ago posted here where I think 12 NBA gm's or scouts were polled on this question and it was a dead even split. So professional evaluators are torn but internet columnist Royce doesn't want to be bothered by the utter silliness of the question? (no significant offense intended Royce)

How the hell does golden state get a national tv broadcast two nights in a row? Don't think the 'east coast bias' really applies in the NBA cause I've seen gs & Sacramento probably 10 or 12 times this year & similarly crappy eastern teams like Detroit, wasington, etc. maybe once total. I don't have league pass, obviously, cause I live nowhere yet everywhere.

The message = don't cross the R-dog. I wonder, has he ever offed someone without making it public knowledge? I'm surprised that it's only happened one other time that you know of cause it seems like similar types of name calling sessions would break out semi-regularly given the lack of decorum often exhibited in the message board world.

@ThunderChick2010 So when Royce drops the hammer on somebody like he did on the dude last night, is there a set ban or probation period, followed by a groveling session at the feet of our omnipotent commissioner/moderator? Or is the guy forever banished to the loudcity or daily Oklahoman message board wasteland?

@OBoymuzik I didn't see 1st take today but I listened to the podcast. Actually felt a little sympathy for ole skip after jalen called him on his bs. He seemed abnormally contrite after the verbal beatdown. As much as I hate the incessant tebow adulation and Westbrook bashing, I still watch the show when I'm around & am somewhat grateful that an Oklahoma guy who doesn't talk like a hillbilly has reached that level of fame.

@LPCes99 Someone gave one in a the daily bolts. Beyond calling out the wet pistol, I thought rose made some great points about how the strict interpretation of positional roles is an antiquated notion. When was the last time a team won the chip w/a true, high assist traditional pg? Detroit maybe w/Billups? As rose pointed out, frenchie has never averaged more than 6 per for SA prior to this year so he doesn't count. Outside of Nash, rondo, & cp3, I don't know who else even fits the old school, dribble, dribble, dribble, pass pg mold that skip longs for.

Not a bad idea proposed by the tjarks fellow, trade harden for a high pick in this year's draft & pick the best of the Florida, uconn, or Washington SG's. Not an appealing prospect I know but since we already have two excellent perimeter players & since it sounds like someone will offer James something close to the max, it seems that focusing on keeping serge is the prudent choice. No way are both James & serge gonna take the level of hometown discount it would take to keep both.

Pretty ballsy of the spurs to throw away a game by resting Tim, manu & Parker In the same game. Maybe Tim, but do 29-yr old Parker & manu who's only played a third of the year really need rest? Kinda disrespectful of us IMO, Pop implying he's not worried about us even w/homecourt advantage.

@falcon If Scotty would give him some damn minutes those numbers might be a bit better. 5-yr contracts aren't based on today as much as the future. Considering your paying for ages 24-29, I'd pay serge more than dirk, gasol, amare, boozer, milsap, west, bosh, lee, scola, Duncan, & nene off of your list if I were signing them to a 5 yr contract tomorrow.

Hope you're falcon but Jordan got about 10.5 per & Chandler got 14.5 per. Neither of them are in Serge's league when it comes to blocks or offensive potential. Something to be said for having the ability to position defend pure centers but there just aren't that many to worry about. There weren't any major PF signings last fall I can think of as a point of comparison. 16 is a standard max.

I'm probably higher on perk than you are. He gives us a defensive presence against the bynums & howards of the league that Cole or fab melo (if he's still there by our pick which I doubt cause 7-footers w/upside don't end up lasting that long) don't. So, I still like my trade scenario a little better. Someone is gonna offer serge 13 or 14 mil per which we shouldn't match, even w/ perks amnesty money.

@Kreese29 We need to be looking for a PF whether it's this draft, next draft, trade, or free agency assuming we're putting our $ w/harden & won't be able to afford Serge. I disagree w/3 C (easier 2nd round matchup) 100%. The 3-6 series as of today is lal vs Dallas, & the 4-5 is lac vs Memphis. If lal was to hold serve against Dallas, that would be the ideal 2nd round matchup for us. We've just got too much athleticism for the lakers at this point and solid interior D to negate their biggest strength. Plus we've waxed them pretty good each time we played this year, can't say the same for lac or Memphis. Home court vs SA is the only advantage in going for 1, the 2nd round matchup is actually a disadvantage IMO.

2 years, 3 months ago on Udonis Haslem calls out Kendrick Perkins

@ILikePancakes But the trade would've been made 2-yrs ago, too many variables for this year's draft strength to be projected then. Even if it is, Sacramento probably would think they'd have improved by now so this years pick wouldn't be a high lottery in their minds so three 1sts for one, 2-yrs in the future probably seems logical for them at the time. We oughta float the same sort of deal this year, our 1sts in 12, 13, & 14 for golden state's 1st in 2014? Bet they'd take it.
