Look at Kevin getting all fancy with highbrow stats and all - you go! LOL, nice and clearly accurate even to the naked eye! Do you think AV may be covering / deflecting a bit for Nash so he doesn't continue to get bashed for his lack of performance in the postseason?

Ergo why AV has said The Duke may not play every game. He will be sat strategically just like Hank. AV will rotate Malone et al in probably against bigger teams as well as to give the kid a chance to acclimate to the grind of an 82 game season and hopefully a LONG postseason run! As long as he continues to show he belongs why on earth would you send him down?!? He is an awesome fillin this year and he'll still likely get the same number of games he would get in juniors, but against elite NHL teams not other kids. When you play against top talent it generally brings out the best. AV will manage games and ice time and put The Duke in situations to progress and help the team! LGR!!!

Wow I was calling Kreider Pouliot 4.0, but I wasn't planning on the penalties....
Obviously my initial distaste for Nash on the line with Brass & Zucc has been proven wrong - mea culpa!
Kind of funny poops scored his first of the year the same night as Zucc...
Cant wait for the game Monday - I won't be fighting NHL center ice, but the scrums in MSG!!!

@Gianni74 @Purinton Zucc took a team friendly contract and has shown that the $ isn't the issue since he was on a much lower one year deal last year - he will come around! MZA - FTW!!!

Adam, nice writeup! Zucca does well and seemingly can play well on any line based on previous performance. That said this year his lines have not been as conducive for breaking out and he has also not been at his best although not nearly as invisible as some have spouted off on here. His CORSI, Fenwick numbers etc show he's being effective even if not as dominant or getting on the score sheet. Look at his time with step and Kreider early last season they had good chemistry, but nobody could put the puck in the net they were mostly snake bitten. Ideally he seems to breakout when on a line with a bigger physical player who can take advantage of the amazing setups and finish. I think Kreider fills that roll better than anyone on the team currently and will become a Pouliot 4.0. I still predict if the Kreider - Brass - MZA line is given the chance they will have Kreider dancing with the 30 goal mark, Brass at the 60 point mark and Zucc breaking 70 points! If Malone, Stempniak, or Hayes ends up on his line I suspect they will succeed there and be the recipient of some killer setups by the resident magician from Norway! MZA - FTW!!!

I am loving the glass discussion! Having played A little hockey although certainly nothing like DP or McPhee I do feel I understand the need for gritty tough players. The need to wear people down and stick up for teammates is HUGE and often underrated! The need for the gritty type of player hasn't changed but the player IS changing and becoming a better all around player - he MUST contribute more than just toughness and grit. Wether it's knowing when to step up or sometimes more importantly when not to or being a viable player that allows a coach to rely on their hockey skills and roll 4 lines. I love the fact that glass is bigger and so far more disciplined than Dorset/carbomb, but honestly I haven't been overly impressed with much of his game although he did have a pretty dandy between the legs pass in preseason. It's not that he's been bad persea just underwhelming and the 4th line has been unimpressive and doesn't appear to have the coaches trust the way that last years did. Hopefully glass will step up and become a fan favorite! I guess the point of all the drivel (my apologies for the length) is that it's not the player, or his seeming lack of hockey skills that I personally have an issue with (concern / reserving final judgement yes!), but the salary and term definitely seems excessive! For what's it's worth as long as he wears a Rangers uniform I will always try to be positive and hope that he plays well and contributes to us winning! LGR!!!!

Not nice to hit girls...
Isn't the movie dumb and dumber based on his early years?!?
Maybe we can package him with glass and throw in michelletti as the booby prize?!?
Truly a classic display of world class diving by true artisans! Oh and a great highlight reel to give the dick with ears!

You working stiffs all have to brag about it... You'll be missed!
@J_CKfor30 AV broke up Nash and MSL who were playing great together... If MSL & Zucc stay together I'd actually like to see Hayes at center. The two speedy playmakers on the wings could be a big help to him winning a few more face-offs and would add much needed size.

Still not a fan of these lines... I bet there will be some tinkering depending on the flow of the game.

@Say my Name @RangersAndRadio Hags is a stalwart PK'er and has a lot of upside, he is poised for a breakout year, I would hate to trade him too early.

@Gianni74 @KevinTheNYRBlog @Bueller You'd have thought it was an option that had higher dividends than signing bad knees brad!
Really enjoyed watching the team play with more confidence! Still concerned by having the munchkin line and really think long term that MSL and Kreider need to flip flop and balance the size out. LGR!!!
Zucca scores today MZA - FTW!!

I get sitting Duclair against a BIG west coast team - the NHL is enough of an adjustment without adding really big bodies T'ing him up. A break and a view from above could also help. I disagree with Kevin and think Dom has shown some offensive flair, but HATE the top two lines! Unless Nash is refusing to play left wing splitting him up from MSL seems moronic! Hayes is a big bodied playmaking center and showed good chemistry in a limited setting why switch it up? Kreider - Brass - Zucc is last years top line on steroids as Kreider is WAY better than poops! The Zucc - Brass - MSL line didn't work last year too small, too many playmakers and against a big west coast team will get manhandled.
G on the pp is ridiculous - too slow to prevent a breakaway, can't hit the net to save his life, and ZERO playmaking ability!
As Kevin said probably means a dominat win and a couple of pp goals...
1 week, 4 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
I much prefer your lines, but hags is more likely to deal well with big bodies banging than Duclair at this stage
I don't think it applies any longer
Why on earth does AV insist on Putting G on the PP he is awful - way to slow to stop a breakaway, can't hit the net, and can't make plays?!?
1 week, 5 days ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
I was just going to say the same thing Zucc - Brass - MSL is a HORRIBLE choice going into a game against a BIG west cost team. They got manhandled the last time and they're all set up guys.... Sigh, I guess Nash is fighting being on the left? He and Marty have some good chemistry - why break that up?!?
Good balanced lines Kevin - I hope AV is paying attention!!
Big question is who do you trade and for whom? Is it worth risking the possible upside as most of our forwards that are valuable trade pieces are still growing and have good potential and haven't even settled into lines yet. If there were a true odd man out maybe, but even with the possible upside of some of these young players would they really bring a viable return at this stage of the game?!?
Yes but a 4th line of Haglin - Dom - Malone would be pretty good against faster offensive talents and still has the grind capability. I think in the short term allowing Duclair to watch a game isn't bad and was suggested early on by AV. He's not used to the grind at the NHL level and short term at least provides offensive spark to the top nine even if it's on a rotation with glass. I would like to think he sticks at least until step gets back if not longer.
Wasn't it attitude that made Duclair slip to the third round?
Staal and Stralman were money until slats suffered from rectal cranial inversion!
@KevinTheNYRBlog @rangermom @Say my Name Maybe we need to tell glass theres a sale on at Felines basement?!?
@allagash @JMK8363 could be - AV still surprises me at how out of touch he seems with the players in general. He's successful, but definitely appears hands off as far as the players day to day although that could be pretense for the media or just the youngsters.
@KevinTheNYRBlog @gravey94 In theory I believe AV prefers to have 2 D and 1 F as spares, but with our cap that isn't likely long term.
@Zelrio @JMK8363 @J_CKfor30 No, hes not, but that doesn't mean another stint in the AHL won't wake him up and allow him to become a solid NHL player. He was slotted to start at C and maybe he's better suited as a winger? I for one would love to see him step up and be a Dubby style grinder on the 3rd line.
@J_CKfor30 Look what that step back did for Kreider last year - he came on like a monster when he was recalled and seems to have found the consistency of his BEAST mode this year!!!
@RangersForte @Craptin McDonqvist I seem to recall everyone expecting Kreider to make the team out of camp last year - one more stint in the AHL maybe just what the doctor ordered for JT to reach the next level and get it as they say.
@gravey94 @KevinTheNYRBlog I agree, I would think send Kostka down get him some playing time and a chance to rebuild his confidence, and bring up either Allen and Mcllrath and give them a chance with Hunwick as the 7th D
@allagash I wonder how much the exceptional play of a few of the rookies hampered the preseason games... AV was forced to play the entire preseason with a split lineup and shuffling several bubble players around to see where they fit in the system as well as on the team. It wasn't as bad as last year, but I think it hampered the ability to gel lines!
It never ceases to amaze me how everyone in Rangerland picks on one little thing and spins itself up to hurricane status in seconds. Duclaire got sat down as an extra winger in the 3rd and OT of ONE game BIG DEAL. The coaches made their decisions and are certainly more well informed and aware of the situation ANY of us fans no matter how passionate or devoted we may be. Is this move indicative of a glaring flaw in Duclairs play not necessarily, and it certainly doesn't mean that the coaches have lost trust or he is out of favor. There are a lot of moving pieces and AV has shown that he is patient and works with players to make sure they perform to their best and are given a fair chance to succeed. We have the luxury of having several very talented predominantly left wingers currently and there may not always be ideal lines to put them all on (this a good thing and shows the depth in talent we have especially in top tier left wings). Will Duclair stay up I don't know, but I do agree his play has seemed to warrant more time here as long as AV said that he can get top 9 minutes. He needs to play to continue to progress bottom line. Things are going to get even more confusing when Step comes back and maybe before if MSL gets switched back to wing (I think Hayes has made a good bid for playing 1C until Step returns).
With that assumption:
Nash - Hayes - MSL becomes your top line (hopefully Hayes is working on faceoffs!)
Now you have to decide Kreider, Duclair, or Hags for the 2nd line?!?
Based on size and physicality i see the 2nd line as:
Kreider - Brass - Zucc
3rd line IF you're keeping Duclair up becomes something like this
Duclair - Dom - Stemp
4th line likely something like this:
Hags - Linberg - Malone (Linberg is supposed to be better defensively and at the dot than JT)
Glass becomes the 13th forward (unfortunately since AV has such an apparent crush it may be more likely that Malone sits)
Once step comes back based on current information Hayes drops to 3C and Dom back to 4C.

@gravey94 @BringBackBeukeboom Hopefully the only way Ritchie comes back is as an asst. coach or maybe a towel boy - already demoted to 3rd line in chicago and still not producing...
It looked more like odd man out because of MSL going back to wing and only having 3 centers. Also appeared that even AV doesn't trust glass in a tight game?!?
I got Game Center this year vs center ice on Fios because I was tired of not getting the Rangers feed but acceding via itv it's had a solid minute plus delay and craps out several times during the game.
Wow 9am and still no recap - Kevin on a JD induced bender last night?!?
