I cannot envision either Gruden or Holmgren as a successful head coach with Jerry Jones as the general manager.
I've never before seen such lousy officiating which affected an NFL game outcome. I think the NFL has effectively flushed the integrity of this season down the toilet.
After all the poor officiating this week, why should serious fans even continue to watch games which are being officiated by far too many unqualified people?
I don't fully blame the replacement officials. They're unprepared for the task they've been given. In my view the League is mostly to blame. You don't lock out the regular crews of officials without having a credible and fair backup plan. The NFL has no such backup plan.
Goodell should be fining himself and his staff instead of fining players and coaches who have been justifiably complaining about the crappy officiating.
After seeing all the Packers fans in the stands during his Packers@Vikings games, maybe Moss really thought he was at Lambeau Field those times also.
Some might disagree with Holmgren's claim that he "never quit anything in my life." In my opinion, during Holmgren's last season with the Packers too much of his attention was already on the new coach/GM job he coveted in Seattle. During the Packers-favored Super Bowl game against the Broncos, there was 1:47 left in the 4th quarter, the score was tied 24-24, and the Broncos were on the 1 yard line. It was Holmgren's decision that Broncos RB Terrell Davis be allowed to score. Instead of playing prevent defense, Holmgren MIScalculated that a final Packers drive would result in a Packers TD and the game going into overtime with an eventual Packers win.
But of course that's not what happened. The Broncos did play prevent defense during the following drive, and they won the game 31-24.
Holmgren later admitted he wrongly thought it was 1st and goal instead of 2nd and goal with the Packers having two timeouts remaining. Some say Holmgren's mind wasn't 100 percent on the game. That's how it looked to me. And it felt as though he'd mentally quit on the Packers, and moved on to the promotion he wanted in Seattle, well before the final minutes of that Super Bowl game.
@MrMurder Thanks for the added information, David_L. I'd remembered about the Raiders because at the time I was thinking that Al Davis might have sued over something like this.
As you did, I should have added that League/team cap amounts aren't usually totally spent. Offhand I don't recall if there's a minimum cap amount which each team must spend this coming season.
@tonygreene113 Thanks. I'm starting to find my way around.
@MrMurder I thought the cap money taken away from the Redskins and Cowboys was distributed to most of the other teams. As I recall, one or two of the other teams didn't get a share of the distribution because they had done something similar, but their spending was a lot less than that of the Redskins and Cowboys.
So the players as a group didn't lose any salary money.
@jonthiele I agree with much of your comment. However, I think the Saints were penalized so much because they didn't stop the bounties after being warned by the League, and the Saints subsequently tried to cover up that they continued the bounty program.
Oh, and I agree 100 percent with what you said about Disqus.
I have to wonder if the Dolphins are aware of other Marshall negatives in addition to what's already been in the news.
