If a small rate hike is needed to avoid having anything to do with Duke, its worth it.

First and foremost ... keep Duke out!

Second ... calculate and let everyone know what the actual increase would be.  They have all the information available and it would be easy to forecast/calculate  what customers' bills would be at the new rates, based on their individual usages.  They can't make an informed decision without the correct information.

Third .... scale back on the extravagance that is Fall Fest and stop spending money just because someone or some group wants it.

Fourth ... when the current contract expires for the city workers, re-negotiate it.  When the citizens are paying the salaries, insurance and retirement via tax dollars, they need to be at levels that are sustainable.

Based on the published wages and salaries of the city workers, they should be able to pitch in more than $1.00 to pay for their insurance and retirement.

The city has been living fat and sassy for the last 10-15 years.

Hopefully the city council in place now will do their job and make the sacrifices necessary to keep Duke out of our electric supply, even if it costs a few more bucks a month.

Government needs to be smaller not bigger on every level (local, state and federal).

I hope the current council chooses the option that is most economically feasible, NOT WHAT THE ARCHITECTS AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY think will "do justice" to the existing building.

If the architects and historical society are so worried about the "aesthetics" of the building, how about the architects cut their PROFIT and the historical society pony up some cash to make up the difference?

Also, if the architects are working for the county/council, they should provide estimates on every option. Funny how they didn't bother to estimate the two lowest options as Councilman Kraus noted.

It amazes me the stupidity of society that constantly condones illegal, bad behavior of people and then portray them as victims and make every stupid excuse to try and explain away their illegal, bad behavior.

Follow the law, don't be an idiot and if the police say stop, STOP.  If people respect the police and do what they are asked/ordered to do, then everyone goes home alive.  Why is that so hard for people to understand?

This is screwed up on so many levels!

The perp (who lives there)  texted the victim to come to the house because no one was home.

The victim said she went to the house to see if her grandfather was there.

The perp recording the victim (on previous occasions) stealing from her grandfather (classy move).

The victim admitting she stole.

No sex drive, Cialis, small children left in cars.

If this wasn't so twisted, it'd be comical.

@Indianawatcher smartjw is right.  It's time to put the burden of education back on the student and parents, NOT on taxpayers. The more you blame everything and everyone else (like the teacher's union does as a way to get more power, contral and money) EXCEPT FOR the students/parents, YOU'LL NEVER SEE improvement in the students' performance.  The federal government does not need to be involved in local education.

1 month, 3 weeks ago on Ritz Urges Pence To Change Mind On Pre-K Grant

It's obvious to an independent or "outsider" that the superintendent is only concerned with increasing the membership, income and political power of the teacher's union she headed prior to her current post.

If you take federal money as mentioned in this grant, the local school loses the power and will of the community to run their own schools (does the horrible, failing Federal School Lunch Guidelines ring a bell)?

Since the state of Wisconsin did away with mandated union membership for their teachers, membership in the Union has dropped 30-40% in just under 3 years while performance of the students has gone up.

If the teacher's unions CLEARLY cared about the students, don't you think they would negotiate their yearly pay increases to be based on student performance rather than how long they have been a teacher?

Murder and violent crimes go up.  Big picture, if two men or two women want to get married, who cares?  Just as long as they get equal treatment and not special treatment because of their sexual preference.

This sounds very promising with a lot of great ideas.

Hopefully, if any city money is going to be handed out in the form of loans or grants or tax breaks, the people deciding who gets the money will be more selective than they have in the past.

With that being said, how about the city not loan or grant any money to anyone or any ownership group, LLC, etc. that was, or is affiliated in any way with someone who has already received funds for a business or defaulted on a loan/grant.

To go one step further and to avoid any opportunity for impropriety or the perception of shady deals, how about not loaning or granting any money to anyone (or their families) serving in a city or county government, agency or development committee of Dearborn County, L'burg, Bright, Greendale, Aurora, etc?

If you want growth and prosperity, you have to spread the wealth around and stop giving preferential treatment to friends, relatives or business associates of a select few.
