Damn, I'd forgotten that one. I suppose my brain's been trying to delete it :P

Indeed, but then Hartnell's regeneration was more of a plot device to switch actors, and not the ritual it has since become. And The War Games was pretty epic in itself, although it's true that Troughton's regeneration is hilarious :D

In retrospective, an actual regeneration in The Stolen Earth would have felt a little out-of-place. The audience have gotten used to epic, climatic regenerations, and this one just popped up in the middle of a story. Besides, being shot by a Dalek and having for last words "I'm regenerating" may have been something of a let-down for Tennant's Doctor. It's as if you took any work of fiction and killed off an important character with "blimey, I'm dead" for dying words.
I believe that this cliffhanger was awesome more for the sheer crisis it presented than for the surprise regeneration. The problem posed would be less "Is the Doctor regenerating?" than "How the hell do the writers get out of this one?!"
Agreed. The fan-made montages were pretty impressive, but to even contemplate this actually happening seems absurd and plain silly.
Which definitely makes it a candidate for Comic Relief.

I like how the Doctor's interpretation on psychic paper differs according to time and place:
Shakespeare-"This paper's blank"
The Doctor-"Wow, what a genius";
Fenton-"This paper's blank"
The Doctor-"Hmph. Lack of imagination"

Last time that happened we got "Dimensions in Time". Let's not risk it.

What is it with Steven Moffat co-writing everything this season? I mean, as showrunner he's always had a big say in episodes, but is there a particular reason for crediting him as writer nearly every week?

Just wondering, was the vault countdown Kevan Brighting ? The episode he's in was never confirmed.

You lucky people. We French don't even have the cinema broadcasts. Been trying for weeks to tweak my satellite receiver to get BBC in time for the 23rd, to no avail.

Wikipedia indicates that the last two episodes will be named "Rest in Peace" and "We promise" respectively, except it seems really unfounded. Is there any info other than these pictures that could lead to believe this? As a matter of fact they're giving most of the "rumoured" titles with no reference to back it up.

The question is, why say that, out of the blue? Is Moffat just attempting to get some fans mad at him for pleasure?

In fairness it's true that in the Hartnell years the mystery surrounding the Doctor was a focus of the show (just look at the title). It's in further years, I'd say beginning with Troughton (War Games especially) that the authors took a stance and gave the character a past, explicitly making him alien.
The Impossible Astronaut was the first story I ever saw. If it was already confusing to the standard whovian, imagine my reaction...

Isn't it in Underworld that the characters encounter another species who received the ability to regenerate, as a "gift" from the Time Lords? Not sure whether the issue of their heart is addressed though.

I was willing to buy from them until I calculated that the total price for every episode would amount to 1900 (any currency) approximately. Maybe just a select few then.
11 months, 2 weeks ago on Is it Time to Give Big Finish the New Who Licence?
I think the reason New Earth lost as an opener is that it wasn't really an opener. Billie Piper was firmly established, and Tennant had had his introduction in the previous episode, so episode 1 of season 2 didn't have anything to introduce, and ended up being a basic, albeit pretty good, episode.

Sounds a bit like most episodes from the 80s

I agree with most of this article's arguments, but still love the episode. Talk about contradiction.
After 5 years of RTD you think Doctor Who can't get any weirder. And then....you see.....The End of Time.

Not too keen on The Name of the Doctor, I'm afraid. It would have fared much better as a twp-parter. (But then don't take my opinion too seriously. You're talking with the person who really enjoyed The Curse of the Black Spot, and most of the McCoy era. And the Abzorbaloff. That last one was a joke.)

I gathered as much, but couldn't resist making the joke. And after all, was it not Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker series that got titled "A trilogy in five parts"?

"A three part trilogy", as opposed, naturally, to one-part trilogies such as The Wedding of River Song.
I'd have voted for Blink, but I reckon it has enough love as it is, and I'd rather make my vote useful. Midnight it is then.
