@MandaPandaBear Yes, you will. Simply put, a smaller collection of cards means you won't have as many weapons or threats in your deck that someone else who has unlocked (or otherwise purchased) with GvG will. It's kind of an arms race really.

I get that people hate Mage decks. Players will often hate the flavor of the month because it's the flavor of the month. I want to help players _win_ and ascend up the ladder. If there was a new, unproven deck that had the potential to do that, then I'll feature it. It's one of my gripes with the community. Players don't want to just win. They want to win with some kind of artificial restriction on them (as in I want to win WITHOUT using some XYZ deck) and then they end up getting frustrated when they ultimately lose. It's a mentality that needs to change. Blizzard will make buffs and nerfs to cards if something is actually legitimately unbalanced.

Anyway, a rogue or pirate themed deck is something I'll look into. Note that Rogue is my absolute weakest class.

As for getting over disenchanting, think about it this way:

I can dust a card for something that can help me NOW

Or I can hold a card for something that might help me NEVER (or way later).

It's kinda like crafting epics in WoW really. Would you spend resources and gold buying/creating a weapon that represents a DPS boost which will definitively help you/your raid group get your tier chest on a boss? Or keep wiping because you were short 3% on the boss's health because you didn't want to make that investment to begin with?

@MartinLongpre Yeah, I thought that was a little odd and wasn't sure if that was some kinda new tech in play on the ladder. The few mech shaman decks I ran into dropped a Lightning Storm at key moments during the game. Nice to know it's not usually used though.

@Warmor The class matchups at the end indicate some ways each of the classes can throw a wrench into the main deck's game plan. My issue is that I might know the "theory" behind most decks in how they'd beat them, I lack the necessary data sets to definitively say it will. I don't play rogues very often, for example. In fact, I only reached level 10 last week just to get the cards to put together for Oil Rogue. I'd rather withhold or at least, offer generalized suggestions as opposed to offering specifics and then being wrong.

@DavidBaldock Right, I hear you. I'll keep that in the back of my mind as I get into the swing of things. My goal right now is to present a deck "archtype". I assume players either have access to all or most of the cards. From there, I then work outwards in the alternative cards section which presents other cards you can reasonably substitute in if you don't have access to it yet.

I've thought about a guide to Naxx, but to me it seems dated to put those out since there's already a huge variety of resources out there on the very topic.

Unfortunately though, Hearthstone rewards people who have one of two things: Those with lots of time or those with lots of money. Those stuck in between will be in a tough spot. You won't be able to access powerful cards and rewards without putting in the time and effort. Just like WoW, I can't expect to get Mythic level gear without going through the grind of heroic bosses and wiping on mythic bosses (or shelling out insane gold on the black market auction house).

@scuac You know, early on in GvG, I was on the receiving end of a play like this. I learned early on that leaving a Snowchugger up with out answering it reasonably early with a spell or a favorable trade that I would be in a world of hurt. Hopefully that player learned something.

@Fierydemise That is some amazing insight there, thank you! I never considered what impact the length of Siege had on rosters. Low hour raiding is another factor that I considered, but wasn't sure because I see a number of guilds who list they raid 9 or so hours a week. But if there are 12 hour guilds logging an extra 4 unofficial hours on top, then it stands to reason some of these 9 hour raid guilds are pushing in more.

@SpaceBard At best, it throws a wrench into your opponent's game plan. At worst, it's a 5/5 body for 5 mana. Plus it's a fairly cheap Legendary that's accessible (assuming you unlocked the right Naxx wing). It's almost never wrong ^^.

Good call on the Faceless Manipulator though. My issue with the Faceless, is that it relies on the opponent actually having cards worth copying that might help you. Deploying it against a Cenarius on the field turns it into a 5/8 body without the Battlecry bonus, for example. But using it against an Ironbark Protector might help change the game. Very situational! But worth a thought.

@mataoka Wouldn't be surprised if you're bang on there. The generation that grew up during vanilla WoW was during a period of time where there weren't as many choices for games. Warcraft was still just growing. The 20-30s are growing up now and they're getting jobs and don't have the luxury to really stay up as much it seems. Or else they have other responsibilities that keep their time commitments in check (you know, the significant other ^^).

Smart move by Blizzard though to enable the flex sizes and multiple difficulty tiers to really maximize raid consumption at least.

@Gruffertus Understandable. At that point, it's a matter of ensuring I have enough players for coverage. If a player can't make a raid, then I'll have others on standby who can come in and fill the role easily.

@CthulhuDragon You're absolutely right, it is my ambition now. That doesn't mean it isn't the ambition of some of them either. I don't always disclose everything here. One of my philosophies of guild building is to surround yourself with people who share the same goals as you do. We're at a stage where some players share that sentiment as well. Others may not want to. Some more conversations are going to be needed.

That attitude certainly does have the potential to drive many members away. But it also has the potential to attract like-minded players. You may have left your guild when your GM's attitude became dictatorial. I've received feedback that I don't take the reins enough and am not as decisive. I personally prefer raiding under one strong minded player. There are others who prefer the same. I was never a fan of democratic guilds where decisions were done by committee and consensus and compromise. Don't confuse that with disregarding or not considering outside opinion, however.

@Binx It might be. Lots of the pieces are neutral minions. The only things Paladin specific are COnsecrateion, Hammer of Wrath, and the Aldor Peacekeeper. It might be able to fit in with other classes, but it needs an AoE removal, a direct damage, and something that can also help mitigate other minions. Might work with Priests? Need to play with it some.

@Noloktarogar Hi there, I fixed the part about Divine Insight. This guide was written before many of the glyph changes.

Your party is in all fairness going to drop fairly low and often throughout some of the fights especially as you're learning. But there are times where there's cut scenes or Role play periods where you have time to actually chug a potion.

Good point about the shield. Even though I miss the old version, I'd still recommend this one anyway as it combines a small heal and an absorb into one. It'll buy you some time to queue into others. Binding Heal isn't a bad alternative. However, I haven't done any of the challenge modes with the Binding Heal glyph and cant' say for sure how effective it's going to be (especially with the slightly higher mana cost with it).

Go ahead and give challenge modes a try! I'd love to hear your experiences with some of the new post 5.3 glyphs and changes!

1 year, 6 months ago on What Priests Bring to Challenge Modes

Reply

@Daisy I like the easy mode leveling. But that's probably because I'm more into end game then levelling. I hated leveling new characters. I just wanted to get to the end and do all this other stuff with other people. If I wanted to play a solo leveling game, I'd switch to Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Agree with the dungeons, but then I earned my golds in Challenge Mode. The heroic raids are still pretty damn hard right now.

I never quite agree with people who say raids are easy. The heroic raids right now in 5.2 are some of the hardest ever designed in the history of the game. Heroic Primordius and Dark Animus are just ballbusting. I don't even want to look at heroic Lei Shen yet. There are multiple raid difficulties available for everyone of all skill levels. If one's too easy, go up one. Too hard? Go down one. I feel that I'm at the right place in terms of challenge offered.

@Daisy I like killing bosses. This dates back to any game/RPG with a boss (Final Fantasy series, Breath of Fire). I also like team work or coop based games (Counterstrike, Left 4 Dead, League of legends). WoW is an interesting mix between both concepts and it'll continue to draw me back. I am lucky to have a side job where I can actually write about the game and make a little part time income from it. The game offers so many different things to do mainly the raiding aspect, the pet battles aspect, and the PvP portions (again, teamplay with other guildies).

The problem isn't the fact that I'm getting bored with the game. The problem is that OTHER people are getting bored with the game and I have to expend the effort to continually recruit the players who share my same mindset and enthusiasm and that pool is dwindling, yes.

@compactdiscpriest Without any other details, it's going to be a little hard for me to diagnose it. If you can get away with using a cheap spell, do it. Don't need to use Flash Heal when a simple Heal will do the trick. Use your mana hymn early around Wave 3-4. It should be up around wave 9-10. Use your Barrier when both of the big guys are up. Since you're hitting OOM at wave 10, your goal should be to streamline waves 1-9 and figure out where you can save mana. Use Psychic Scream and your AoE Roots to slow down and stall melee minions at max range before they can close in and start DPSing your group. Good luck!
