"The department is trying to improve its financial situation after reporting a $3.98 million deficit for the 2011-12 fiscal year The move should aid athletic director Dave Hart in his search for a football coach while also helping fund the $5 million buyout to Derek Dooley"

So UT's academic side will be paying Dooley's 5 million dollars.  The athletic department  is the poorest of the poor in the SEC.  They didn't have the money to pay him.  And if the big wig donors don't opens their wallets, they won't have the money to pay their next coach either.

Sounds like Joker Phillips is a class act.  Hope he gets a good assistant job.

I don't think it's a matter of who recruited them.  It's a matter of who's been working with them for the last 2+ years.

John, have you changed your opinion that Dooley will be back next year?

I don't see Dooley coming back.  Not even close.

1.  Dooley didn't even have control of his team last season against Kentucky

2. First year adjusting to a new, very complicated 34 defense

3.  With the off-field issues, Bray clearly hasn't matured

4.  Brand-new coaching staff except for the OC

5.  Dooley 0-19 against ranked teams

6.  No running game whatsoever

7. DC never called defensive plays before

8.  New AD probably looking to hire his own football coach

9.  Loss of best offensive player in Rogers

10.  Fan base not buying tickets or showing support

Former Tennessee coach Pearl is a known liar and has every reason to lie here if he ever wants to coach again.  The kid and his mom and dad have no reason to lie.  So who do you believe?

Any commitments Tn gets before December are fairly likely to decommit when Dooley is fired.  Ironic that all the tn media said Dooley ought to get a third year for the sake of stability, and then they have 7 coaches leave and will have a complete coaching turn over this year.  Keeping Dooley a third year created more instability than anyone could have imagined.

John, didn't you say you thought UT ought to keep Dooley for a third year for stability?  They probably would have had less coaching turnover by firing Dooley.  At the end of the year they are going to have to pay him 5 mil. to leave, and aren't they still paying Fulmer?  And just to add salt to the wound, it looks like Lane Kiffin just might win a national championship this year.
