@Anthony Petrielli @docmma @wendelsfist  I'm OK moving some of the big contracts but only if we're getting some value back in picks/prospects. I'm not a fan of having a fire sale.

Just read that Gordie Howe suffered a stroke and is resting at his daughter's home. My thoughts and prayers go out to Howe and his family. Met him twice. What a class act. Hockey is better because of guys like him.

@BrandonCheema  At $4.2M/yr Bozak is a steal. Yeah, let's deal him, we're getting far too much for what we pay him

Looks like Dave Bolland has only played 4 of 7 games so far with zero points. I think we got lucky there.

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheColborneUltimatum  The Ducks may make more sense. They have cap space and would benefit Mrs. Phanuef to be close to Hollywood. Maybe they could give up a 1st although it would probably be a 26-30th pick

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheColborneUltimatum  Good points although his wife is from Calgary so if they're planning a family they may value being closer to the parents.

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheColborneUltimatum  I was thinking since the Oilers could use help on D, have some cap space and Dion is the hometown boy we might be able to pull a 1st pick from them. We'd probably have to throw in some more to make it work or take a salary player back but that could be a win/win especially since MacT really needs to be in the mix for a playoff spot after all these years of top picks.

Do you see any merit in that?

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheColborneUltimatum  Would you know if you can retain salary for a part of the contract or does it have to be spread equally across the contract?

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheColborneUltimatum  Good reasoning. You thought a 2nd plus Wingels. You don't think Phaneuf could pull in a 1st from a likely playoff team like SJ?

@Cameron19 @TheColborneUltimatum @Fish Head  Cameron you mentioned a couple times about trading for Wingels from SJ. Why such interest in Wingels?

@Hifi75 @wendelsfist @Fish Head  I'm not debating if he's a 1C or 2C but just that he brings great value for his cap. Look at Staal. He makes twice what Bozak makes and other than the lock out shortened season he hasn't had a point per game season in the past 6 years. That's not good cap value.

@djamon @Fish Head  Bozak is a -1 in +/- so not great but not bad. My point is that at $4.2M he's one of the better value players and in this cap era that's very important.

It seems like Bozak may be one of the most bashed guys on this site so out of curiosity I looked at his stats and he's got 8 points in 8 games. At a point per game pace with a $4.2M cap hit Bozak seems like great value. Stamkos has 8 points in 9 games. I'm not saying Bozak is better than Stamkos but considering what you get for $4.2M it's hard to complain.

I have to say that I really expected the Marlies to be blowing through the competition but their record puts them in the bottom half of the league at 6 points in 7 games. I realize it's still early and we have bright spots in Connor Brown and Bibeau but I was expecting a stronger start.

@Jmessih @Burtonboy @Mitch_S2  Nylander is a special player and we're lucky to have him. I'm thrilled that we're giving him ample time to grow before being a full time Leaf. It will pay off in the end.

@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan  Kadri and Gards are young enough to help build the team. I see moving the older guys if we want to rebuild and if the return is worth it for Kadri and Gards then fine. Although I would love to see what Babcock would do with this group.

@MaxwellHowe  There is a lot of truth to that. When Gardiner is allowed to play the way he does he looks like an all star. You just have to put him on a pairing with a strong defensive type and tell Jake to go out and do his thing. He was our best player in the playoffs 2 seasons ago against the Bruins and at the end of last season when all was lost and he was given the "longer leash" he thrived once again.

This doesn't take a genius, it only takes a coach who knows how to play the players to their strengths rather than trying to fit the square peg ...

@Burtonboy @Fish Head  Other than the last game the 3rd line has looked good. everyone is going to have an off game but I must say that this 3rd line has breathed new life into Clarkson and I think we should leave it alone. Having said that I get why they are experimenting but still prefer the 3rd line just like it is.

2 days, 21 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Picking up where they left off

@Burtonboy @Fish Head  I know. What I'm saying is that Clarkson looks good playing with Santa and Komarov. It's what he's built for and we he's having a resurgence. Why mess with that when it works?

@Burtonboy  That sounds good except that Booth did not have a good camp and then he's been out for several weeks due to the injury. I would guess Booth will play 4th line minutes for a while until he can prove himself.

I think Winnik may be better suited for the 2nd line rather than Clarkson. Why mess with the 3rd line as they seem to have chemistry

@cryptotho @Jmessih @Mapleswede  I doubt anyone would take Panik if we put him on waivers to go to the Marlies. Once he clears he can get some serious minutes and then maybe find his way back to the Leafs but keeping him when Ashton is on the bench makes little sense to me.
