@B_Leaf @Mcost61  Sure we could be better but we're the second highest scoring team in the NHL and we're just now starting to learn to play an effective defensive system. I think we give these guys and coaches a few weeks and we'll have a different Leafs team that we take be proud of

@Forever17 @Fish Head @B_Leaf  Yes, we need to wait and see. Sure the game against Washington we looked lost but it's a new system. The very next game against the Blue Jackets was our most complete game of the year. Take away the first 37 seconds against LA and it was a solid defensive outing. We know we can score and it will come but to see a defensive system is very refreshing. I for one am very optimistic.

@B_Leaf  No, no, no. We can right this ship. We still have great talent and with a good system we can be a playoff team. Don't throw in the towel yet. Randy's finally gone so we're moving in the right direction

@philthethrill  Carlyle was way more pain than gain. He was here too long. Colborne would have saved us a 2nd round pick that we used on Holland. Not that I have an issue with Holland but would you rather have a 2nd pick and Colborne or Holland and no 2nd pick?

Great Read Anthony and loved you on the CBC.

I'm really sorry to hear about Matthew from Capgeek. It's incredible how much his tool affected us Hockey Geeks. Sure hope he has a speedy recovery.

Anthony, Thanks for another great read.

Your first 4 of the 5 things I'd do are bang on.

Anyone can see that Clarkson isn't working on the 2nd PP unit except the coach.

I was worried that Ashton may have slipped out of our plans with his suspension but where are you going to get a young big player that does what he does for the money he's paid. We need to give him minutes, let him develop and see what we may have here. I don't see that we have anything to lose and it's not uncommon for big wingers to take a little longer to develop.

Without having the numbers to support it, I believe that Reimer plays better when he gets into a groove and giving him more starts would either strengthen our keeper position or possibly give James more value in a trade.

I don't understand why Carrick hasn't been swapped in for Smith long ago. Maybe more minutes with the Marlies? Either way, we need to give Sam the chance at 4C. He works hard and can drop the gloves if needed and Smith is just holding a spot with no foreseeable future.

I also liked the quote on Nylander. I know many of my MLHS brothers were disappointed when we passed on Nick Ritchie and took Nylander but when Nylander was announced I just jumped off the couch slapping my mitts together as hard as I could. This player is special and I'm thrilled that his future will be with our beloved Leafs.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!!!

Anthony, I'm really impressed with the data and your insight into what to do with Jake Gardiner.

I probably think like the average Leaf that it may be time to make a move on Gardiner but after this read I think we need to continue with patience.

The only thing I can't figure out is how we resign Franson, Kadri and Bernier. Something has to give and I thought Gardiner might have been a casualty. It looks like we will have some difficult decisions with the Cap this coming year.

Just got home from the Leafs/Stars game. What a great early Christmas present.

Bernier stood on his head and Phaneuf played a tough game.

I'd like to see Bozak and Gardiner moved out for ROR. Have ROR center Kessel and Lupul or JVR.

Having a defensive center like ROR would make a world of difference for our top line and I think the trade with the Avs would be a reasonable one.

Nylander looks like the real deal. Although he's got the face of a 12 year old. He looks so much younger than 18.

A year in the AHL and I think we'll see him start as a 20 year old for the Leafs in 2016.

@LyGuy  With the cap continuing to rise his long term $8M/yr is a good deal. I think you could get someone like Taylor Hall or Aaron Ekblad for him.

Although I would not trade Kessel. I would rather trade Bozak and Gardiner to the Avs for ROR. Having a defensive minded C between Kessel and JVR would be a big plus and would help that line move I the right direction.

My 2 cents

Every guy on the team is not going to be a defensive specialist. Kessel is the only guy in the NHL to be a top 10 scorer each of the last 3 years and will probably be again this year. If we think Kessel is the reason we're losing I must be missing something.
