@Cameron19 I like the idea of getting younger and building a team that way but I think we may be pleasantly surprised by our boys this year. With a bottom 6 as good as anyone and hopefully both keepers healthy and the additions on D I like our chances to be a playoff team and even win a series (maybe two).

I'm not ready to blow it up just yet. I think we'll get something of value for Franson at the right time and I love our up and coming prospects.

@ingy56 One of the true greats and tough as nails player. My best buddy's uncle is Fred Stanfield and Uncle Freddie used to say that the last person that he would want to go into the corner with was Mr. Elbows himself, Gordie Howe.

@Burtonboy Management of Habs is taking the hard road with Subban with the bridge and now this. My guess is that PK will go through this one more time next year and then take his talents where they are much more appreciated.

@docmma @Bruffins $7M for a third pairing D-Man? Can't see it and playing him in that spot would lower his value in trade.

@whalz @Fish Head I could see a 2nd pick for either Franson or Reimer but Clitsome for either would be poor for the Leafs.

Hopefully it's bullshit.

I think we'll see both Franson and Reimer starting the season for the Leafs and once the injury bug hits some of the other teams the price should go up and a good deal could be had

@whalz @Fish Head Ouch! If that's for real I think we take a step backwards. How is that a good or even reasonable trade for the Leafs?

@docmma @Fish Head Totally agree on developing from within but what about Franson? Does he stay or go? If he goes, where to and for what?

3 weeks ago on Jake Gardiner talks contract with Greg Brady

So with our small amount of cap space we may be done for now but if anyone is in play it could be Franson and possibly Reimer but considering Reimer signed for 2 years I'm guessing Nonis is waiting for a more ideal time to make that move.

So my question would be where does Franson go and what do we get in return. If it's a pick rather than a player, who fills Franson's spot?

3 weeks ago on Jake Gardiner talks contract with Greg Brady

Reply

@RandomScrub @maple1967leafs @Burtonboy Holland is going to be good and before the end of the year he'll be challenging Kadri for the 2C spot. This will be healthy as they will both be fighting for the spot. Don't trade Holland as he's young and full of talent and potential.

At what price and term would you consider to sign Michael Del Zotto? Looks like he could be a decent 3rd pairing D on the left sidebut what deal would make sense. He is a local boy so maybe he would be interested in being a Leaf.

@Bruffins Should be close but I'll take Gardiner as he is older and therefore may have a better chance to make a leap.

@Bruffins Doughty. He won me over during the recent Olympics and then solidified it through the playoffs. Best D in the game today. Although he was the #2 overall pick, knowing what we know today I would take him over Stamkos.

@docmma @Fish Head @sniperstar @Burtonboy It really depends on the opportunity. If he knows he'll have a third pairing position and playing lower talent on opposing teams then maybe he would welcome the opportunity as it would be something he can build on in an effort for a larger contract next year. I'd try $1.25M for 1 year.

@dlb Mad @Fish Head You may be right and on the other hand let's be really optimistic and say that he scores 15 goals, 30 points next year and plays his role better. Even though it's still a bad contract we may find more than one suitor. It may be wishful thinking but we need to find a way to get out from under that contract

@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan Even if Clarkson doubles his point total this season it's still a bad contract. If MacT still has a slight glimmer in his eye for Clarkson I would like to see us try and move him. I realize that he has a NTC but maybe after this past season and knowing what the next 6 could be like in this market he may welcome a move. If we moved him for Teddy Pucell we would only have Teddy for 2 years at $4.5M/yr so it would be much easier to swallow and the Oilers could use Clarkson's grit.

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheCanucksnaphook I like MacWilliam's toughness. He's also a bit older than Percy. That may make more sense especially to give Percy more development time before making the move.

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheCanucksnaphook Other than Percy, who else is left side on the Marlies?

@Cameron19 @Fish Head @TheCanucksnaphook That part makes sense although I'd like to see Percy spend another year with the Marlies to continue to hone his skills. How about Holzer? My understanding is that he played the toughest minutes with the Marlies this past year and is in the final year of his deal before UFA status. He could be a nice trade chip before the playoffs if he shows well and we're not in a position to make the top 8.
