@Jewell The tournament directors and sponsors like seeing the same players as well.. MORE MONEY!! I suspect the homogenization has a lot to do with that as anything.. Once they slowed them all down and the big 4 completely took a strangle hold of the tour and fans flocked to sold out finals the writing was on the wall.. No one wants to see Mardy Fish break through unless your a real tennis fan or its in the states.. Youll get a lot of empty seats..
@pwal24 @Jewell His dominance began way before the homogenized courts.. Federer's true greatness is his adaptiveness.. Look at his game in 2001 and in 2013 .. He plays completely different.. INadal Murry and Novak have played the same way their entire career.. Theyre just better at it now.. The homogenization really started 5 years ago in 2008 2009..
@GeorgeElliottEllis WRONG! Surface speeds and bounces are nearly identical from week to week.. This was not the case up until 5 years ago., The footing on clay is different of course but little else from hard to grass... There is hardly no first strike tennis or serve and volley in todays game.. It is impossible with slow hard courts that bounce high like clay.. The chip and charge ball sits up and you have so much time to pass.. You literally have zero clue what you are talking about.. What has happened with the homogenized surface is that the side to side super athletic ball bashing style is what works so thats what every one uses. Just different variations of that game.. You don't have to adapt from week to week anymore... No variety.. Top players and coaches all agree with federer on this.. The debate is which do you prefer homogenized courts or different surface speeds but not if what federer said is true.
@CLsCat2 @phil90 Variety? Remember the days when Stepanek, Safin, Llodra, Hewitt, Federer, Ferrero, Roddick, Henman, Rafter, Guga all had completely different games.. Not one played like the other.. The different surface speeds and bounces every week meant you had to find a game that worked for you and some guys liked certain surfaces better or just adapt.. Now a days all the top guys have a variation of the same baseline ball bashing super athletic side to side game.. the surfaces, speeds and bounces are identical each week so thats the style that works.. variety is dead..
@mint32 @totaltennisfan not the point.. First strike tennis, serve and volley tennis is almost dead.. The hard courts and grass courts have been slowed down so much that they play like clay.. Sure the guys bash the ball but it's rally baseline ball bashing at every tournament.. Its funny that you only see truly different styles from the old guys on tour like llodra and stepanek, hewitt, federer. I like all 3 but think about djokvovic nadal and murray .. they are unbelievable but they all play a variation of the same baseline suuuper athletic game.. the big difference is their forehand style and side to side movement style.. 10 years ago retired top guys like safin and roddick played nothing alike.. It was awesome..
@CMOORE_RAFA FAN You can't really change clay you idiot ... The problem is theyve slowed down the hard courts and grass courts and now they play like clay.. First strike tennis , serve and volley tennis, offensive tennis is almost dead.. Its all baseline grind it our rally ball like on clay.. i appreciate it that style but come on some variety of surfacewhere a guy like llodras serve and volley could flourish would be awesome.. Plus youd see more upsets ..
@TrevorCScott The problem is the tournament and it's owners and directors take home about 80 to 90% of ALL the profits from any given tournament each year.. the players are getting screwed.. The fact is when the Big 4 go to a tournament the tournament makes more money.. They only have the leverage to get appearance fees because they've performed.. The tournament makes those appearance fee dollars back in 1 day session and because theyre there the directors and owners make even more money..The true scumbags are the directors and owners who should give the players a larger cut like the players have been asking for years.. This tactic of shaming roger says more about them... Rogers real problem doesnt have to do with money but an on going feud him and the owners and directors have been having for years.. Theyre not putting money back into his hometown tournament theyre just raking in dough and not reinvesting it.. he wants to own the tournament..
There is A LOT more to this than they're saying.. The tournament director just made a huge mistake by trying to publicly shame Roger into playing.. The directors/ owners of the tournament and Roger have been at odds for years. I think Roger wants to own the tournament.. He's expressed interest in buying it several times. He hasn;t been happy with the shape and direction his hometown tournament has been going for years... he could buy it 10 times over and run it better but the people who have it now treat it as their personal yacht or toy to make some extra cash with.. Larry ellison is a great owner not these clowns.. The fact is the majority of the money from all tennis tournaments goes to the director and owners and NOT the players.. basel hasn't upgraded anything in years but the director is making out with a ton of dough.. the owners can do what they want and Roger can do what he wants.. To release this letter says more about them and their tactics than roger.
@federalokovic except he had played in more davis cup matches than Rafa when he was Rafa's current age.. he played in more Davis Cup matches than Novak when he was Novaks current age.. He's carried the burden for years.. You understand? It's a lie he didn't play Davis Cup.. He has more Davis Cup career wins than Roddick and Roddick is considered a Davis Cup hero for the US.. Is the picture becoming clearer?
When Federer was Nadal's current age, Novak's current age and Murray's current age he had played in more Davis cup matches for SUI than each of them has individually has for their countries . Let that sink in.. So all this talk that he hasn't put in work and doesn't like playing is rubbish .. He killed himself in Davis Cup by himself for years..
lesson learned .. i should have finish reading article .. But these have been on my radar for about 8 months and they've been advertised as the "vapor 9 Holiday's" the entire time .. His AO2013 shoes are fresh too .. Instead of the camo crazy back of the shoe its solid pink..
What the hell !!!! These are NOT agassi's these are ROGER FEDERER's shoes and they are called "vapor 9 holiday" it's like the 10th color way of his vapor 9's how could you mess this up... Federer will be wearing them at the World tour Finals next week..
@LindyDR Federer basically said exactly that at Wimbledon.. His quote..
"I hope it doesn't become a big issue during Wimbledon. It's obviously a debate that's out there ever since, I guess, the Slams have made equal prize money. There's nothing you can do, anyway, about it,"
"It's just a matter of who believes what, and then that is an endless debate. So whatever you believe,"
basically saying in a measured way it's a settled issue. move on and leave it alone and let's talk about tennis.. He didn't blast anyone just typical diplomacy from him ..
@vivafernando Working tirelessly to recover by golfing everyday? Golfing is absolutely terrible on the knees.. It would be like him going down hill skiing everyday.. It makes zero sense.. I can see him doing low impact stuff like fishing or light swimming but golf? No way..
He hasn't avoided it.. he was asked at Wimbledon and in typical measured Federer fashion said..
Basically saying it's settled... Move on..
The only thing I want someone to ask Rafa is about him playing golf everyday while trying to recover and return from a serious knee injury.. Golf is NOT low impact.. Especially on your knees and back.. Bad knees sidelined Tiger Wood's A game for a year plus.. We're all just going to ignore Rafa golfing like a mad man? Oh we are.. Oh ok carry on..
Why/How is Rafa playing so much golf with a bad knee.. Golf exposes weaknesses in your Knees, Back and shoulders especially.. A bum knee sidelined Tiger's A game for over a year.. The whole thing does not add up..
Who cares.. i want to know why Steve's boyfriend Rafa is playing golf pro-ams with a patella tear?
I repeat "It hurt like crazy but I tried to take away the positives" "Andy played better but it was nice to see him come back after a crushing loss".. So basically what he was saying steve was it was nice for Andy to rebound and win like He himself was able to do after Novak.. That's what Champions do.. Remember when Andy lost the AO and crumbled for about 6 months after ?.. Us fans have a better command of what's going on then than you journos do .. Honest as ever it was..

Here it Steve On his loss to Novak.. 'It hurt like crazy but I tried to take away the positives" and in the same interview On Andy "Andy played better, It nice to see him come back from a crushing loss".. Where's the scandal .. seriously? You are like a 5 year child ..
