Great post @Alex_Jonze so what would you say is you top tip out of all of these?

Great quick guide @AdamMartinBrown. In your view which four 'buttons' would you suggest every site includes within the social sharing 'widget'?

So what is your view on 2014? For me these are the key points of focus:
> Making social work from an ROI perspective, but measured not just on pounds and pence back but across more metrics.> Putting digital PR at the centre of the content distribution plan and getting close to major influencers.> Nailing paid content distribution as part of the overall content plan.
What are your thoughts?

This is a great post Jade thanks for sharing. It's always great to see real experiences from the 'coal face' and this is a hugely valuable guide for those just starting out. What was your biggest challenge @zazzle_jade

@Anthony_Mac85 Thanks Anthony. The discovery engines are tricky and you definitely need to test and optimize for it to work. Some are better than others in terms of quality also but Outbrain we like a lot.

Great post @zazzle_anna I know you work hard on the phone and with face to face relationship building. How critical is this to the process with key influencers in your experience?

Great post Josh. Obviously the headline is designed for click through. We know infographics are not dead but over abundance is impacting ROI. Big bang content then is where it is at Josh?

I realise this post is a little 'out there' for our blog but in an industry of constant change preparing for what may lie ahead is important for me and while the above is speculation it is based on real evidence that this stuff is happening, right now.
I'd love to hear other thoughts on how you think such developments may change our day jobs...

Great post @benharper87. It's so exciting to see what social data trends can actually show us. How do you think social graph search affects this?
And how would you suggest knowing this could have helped HMV and Blockbuster survive?
1 year, 9 months ago on Did Social Data Predict HMV and Blockbuster's Downfall?
Great piece Mark. So what you are saying is that it comes down to creating an audience of value around the content you produce? Makes sense to me and reinforces my view that the web is following the same evolutionary process as TV, print and radio. An obsession with the technology first that ends with retention via content.

@GiseleNMendez @zazzle_chris Thanks for the comment Gisele. And you are absolutely right. Link profile understanding is critical to avoid networks. A lot of this concern is placated via the social sharing route as active social accounts usually indicate that the site is real. That said we always run a reverse IP lookup to check what else is on the server alongside link check.

Working in the same office as Chris I know how much pain has gone into refining the process we now use. Some of that learning is captured here, so thanks @zazzle_chris for sharing. Does anyone else have a view on key metrics to track when evaluating sites?
Sadly I couldn't make this one but @lcshanks and @jo_pricey did and it sounds like there was some great stuff shared, particularly around use of language; a key component of any content strategy!

@Marie_Haynes thanks for commenting Marie. I know a lot of work has been done across multiple indexes. I think what hurts for @HathawayP is the fact that these links are many years old and the result of poor practice by long gone employees in an era where many perceived it 'acceptable' to build bad links!
@HathawayP @s_rvll refreshing indeed. As for the quotes I'm a little lost having not seen the most recent!
@jamesagate @hathawayp thanks for the share James. Dollar Shave Club proved the power of 'cheap' video and this is really useful. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this @HathawayP. It's rare that a business opens up like this and tells the story of the impact large scale Google changes have on people's lives. If anyone else reads this and has a similar story please share it here...
It's great to see a piece concentrating on the basics. I think we often get carried away with selling the advanced stuff but laying the foundations is key to making the later stuff work well.

This is a lengthy piece and a great effort to capture every piece of the Penguin puzzle @adamjamesmason . Really like it. I think had we included it all the piece would have been twice as long so there are a few areas edited out but it should give a taste of what is involved....
2 years, 3 months ago on The Ultimate Penguin Link Removal Guide
@atrollope That's definitely worthy of inclusion, so thanks for sharing. It hurts to see the apparent injustice (and its seen in most niches at present) and so the key is education I think by helping site owners understand how link profiles look and compare to others.

The list above is a selection only and is designed to extract a few more questions around link building now, so I'd love to hear some more thoughts, or myths....
@tedives I think that's an extremely valid comment Ted, so thanks for sharing. It is clear the future is writing and sharing world class comment and thought leadership. The key I think is to engage the key influencers in your space; and content is one of the best ways of doing that. Thankfully the days of content for the sole purpose of gaming the algo is over.
2 years, 5 months ago on What’s The Number One SEO Noob Mistake?
Thanks for the guest post Dan. Really interesting point around the 'wrong page ranking' issue as we see this happening more and more now. I think the advice around that is really solid and will be really helpful to a lot of site owners. Do you have any specific examples of work you've done around this?
A lot has been written about HOW to guest post, WHERE to guest post and WHAT to guest post but very little has been said about WHY...which was the inspiration for the piece. Any additions most welcome....
2 years, 5 months ago on 9 Reasons why Guest Posting is now the No1 Link Building Tactic
@dr_pete @Durant Imboden I think the point of AR is that it is socially driven - hence Google+. The best way to measure quality of content is via social signals.
2 years, 5 months ago on ‘Google Have Dropped the Ball on Search Quality’ – An Interview with ‘Dr Pete’ Meyers
@Durant Imboden Hi. I think the point @dr_pete was making is that the two will be intrinsically linked - Authorrank powered and measured by social signals. I think we all agree that an entity based algo is coming to a screen near us all in the future. It's much harder to 'game' and will help deliver a better personalised experience.
Great piece Peter and thanks for your efforts in helping us pull this together. We would really like to crowdsource some more questions now to add to the list so fire away people....
@SteveGerencser I like the 'book smart' conclusion. It makes a lot of sense. I think to be fair to their team they have a MASSIVE job in trying to police the index and machine learning and algo changes are the only way to scale BUT they could perhaps improve their reinclusion system and customer support so businesses have greater access to the info they need to save their livelihoods...

If anyone has any great sites or resources to add around Penguin please share here so we can update the list. Thanks
2 years, 5 months ago on Google Penguin – Where Do We Go From Here?
@optimizethis beautifully captured there. Totally agree and I'm really excited about what it means for the future.
2 years, 6 months ago on Google Penguin and Webspam Penalties – Where Will it All End?
This is a REALLY important subject as far as I'm concerned right now. There is the argument that 'Google has been doing this for years' but I don't buy it. This is different, structural and ends the interweb's time as the 'Wild West frontier'. And that's a good thing. It means that investment in content and real social audience creation should now core to any digital marketing campaign. And I for one, having come from that world, like it a lot.
What I don't like so much is the collateral damage - the tales we have heard from biz owners over the past few weeks are horrible to listen too. These are real people losing real homes because they rode the algo and had no plan B. Now is the time to have that diverse plan...Thoughts?
@Koozai_Sam great Sam. Our experience would reinforce this and I think a lot of online businesses are scared of the prospect, believing it to be a complete minefield.

@Dean Cruddace agree and I think it will be interesting to see how the forthcoming gTLDs do. It's clear they have no extra value as far as Google is concerned, as Matt Cutts pointed out so why brands are going to fork out vast sums to secure them is mind boggling. It's not like anyone else could use them as those same brands can claim them via the 'passing off' route....
2 years, 7 months ago on .co Domain Optimisation (an experiment)
@simonwoods we haven't tried those but perhaps they can be added to round 2. CTR should also be measured I think and that's a great point. Would need to be done separately to the other piece though to avoid muddied data.
We would really like to hear any real life examples of .co success or failure as we plan to take this experiment on and include the new gTLDs when they are launched.
