@HughAnderson Hi Hugh. Thanks for the comment. You are right those metrics are critical as the value of a guest post extends beyond simple link metrics and value. The point of looking at social shares is to gauge the audience size and we often use SEMRush or Alexa to further quantify this. In reality though none of them are that accurate.
There is almost always a correlation between general domain authority however and audience quality/quantity and so while those metrics mentioned are not there to directly measure audience indirectly they do. Hope that makes sense!

@s_rvll Hey Sean. Thanks for the comment. Fake PR is a big problem and post penalty its become pretty inaccurate. Domain Mozrank works much better for us right now, alongside measurement of social activity.
Absolutely Mark. The Disavow tool is clearly a weapon of last resort and a way for Google to scale its spam discovery efforts. It does, however, work well for those with nowhere else to turn and can recover sites...
