What did you expect? "Welcome, sonny"? "Make yourself at home"? "Marry my daughter"? You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meatball I feel great about the class. But I don't want freshmen out there in key moments on either line. Or the defensive backfield. Freshmen tailbacks and rush ends might be the only exceptions to be honest.Get the kids reps. Get them film so that they can be critiqued. But I hope that we aren't needing early contributions to survive the SEC. If that's the case, then I don't think we'll be happy with the end results.

@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny My guess is that Pruitt does not want to be dictated to by the offense. He wants to dictate to them. He'll play the spread both in a nickel and a base 3-4 (Grantham being almost exclusively in nickel). Pruitt will keep 7+ in the box and not let the OL or QB anticipate who we are sending and who is dropping back.
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny I think Pruitt's ideal is to get everyone quicker. Play 2 different schemes effectively with the same personnel (Instead of running off a DL for nickel, keeping 3 guys out there because they are more agile and quicker. Grantham's issue last season was run defense in nickel. The front 4 couldn't hold their own).
Good point. But since Mt Cody... have there been defenses buit around behemoths? Bama seems lighter to me (i don_ follow them but I have seen their draft boards). LSU seems to have had more success with quickness as well. Carolina and Florida. Or am I forgetting some 330 pound draft picks from those teams?

I commented on Emerson's article that our 2012 defense (with the exception of Jarvis) didn't chase any plays down from the backside behind the line of scrimmage. A simple cut block and we weren't agile enough to do anything with it. How nice would it be as an OC to pull linemen and not have to worry about any DL cutting through and disrupting a play before it starts?
I just finished Emerson's article on the weight. i like it. But i also recognize what is being given up by going smaller. I realy think Pruitt's playcalling and aggression/deception should offset most disadvantages for being lighter.

No compliments... if that is what you mean. They won't throw any kids under the bus, either.
I don't think we had any defensive all americans last season. no one should feel like they are close to where they need to be. Potential is talent unrealized.
I saw that too, soc. winning the sec is predicated on winning those key downs on the ground. that is how shaw was so successful. that is a great name to be compared, imo.

@ColumbusRednBlkDawg walk on safety that I heard got reps with the 1s (matthews was out at safety. green out at star/cb so other guys like langley probably couldn't help out at S).

@J.H.D That's how I am catching the game.

Did anybody notice the quicksnap to Hutson when the cadence caught the defense offsides? Instead of the traditional knee, he sprinted through the line trying to make positive yardage. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Maybe they get some designed quicksnap plays put together amongst the team this year.

After the sack, Herrera gets abused by Gurley in a short outlet pass. I think Herrera gets a bit of a bad rap about his coverage skills. But he got caught covering one direction and Gurley just blew right by hime. Not very good.
I'm watching the game now for the first time. I like the first sack by Herrera. Pruitt loves to overload one side. And more often than not, we should be too quick for the OL to get a hat over on everybody coming (even if we only send 4 or 5).
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny It is good to see those names up there as having good days. It isn't always about 2014. Just keep getting better and being ready when the number is called (possibly/probably 2015).

@ColumbusRednBlkDawg The Evan Gattis of the gridiron. LOL
Who were the offensive and defensive MVPs that didn't get snaps on the first team?
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny You can't predict how these things workout. But the Figgins TE/H-Back experiment was a failure. I chalk it up to a lack of agility with Figgins. And it wouldn't surprise me if Hicks has the same issue. Some guys are too bulked up and not capable of having the footwork necessary to play the sport effectively.
Who were your offensive and defensive MVPs of the day from the 1st teams?
@therealdray Unfortunately, my isp isn't on the espn3 list. I'm going to have to wait for a possible youtube bootleg.

@Mike_Brooks14 I'd say that he's definitely one to watch. It's rare for a kid to be able to dance around in the SEC and get away with it (I'm not sure he would be able to). But his stride is so quick and long, that he can get separation like a Malcolm Mitchell or AJ Green (not that tall / long of a stride, though).
@Boi1der Great hips and a surprisingly long stride for a kid his size. How tall is he?
@Mike_Brooks14 Ben Jones is an enigma for me. He reminds me that I'm a novice. I was less than impressed with him at UGA (he exceeded 3*, but not by much in my book). I always saw him struggle getting to the second level and engaging linebackers(to his credit, he was very good in other areas at times when he was responsible for a more limited space).Yet... he received honors as a senior. He started at RG for the Texans for most of the 2012 season. It shows what I know. And now, he was a backup for a very, very bad Texans team in 2013 and listed as a likely backup at C in 2014.He most definitely was a leader. But I got to the point prior to his senior season saying, 'he is what he is" and not expecting him to keep transcending his game.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny @SUWANEEGEORGIA (git r dun coach pruitt) Thanks. It's my impression that he got reps as a junior. And really made a name for himself in the offseason (2013) at some camps. The potential is certainly there. He's gonna have to put in the work, though.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny @SUWANEEGEORGIA (git r dun coach pruitt) Do you know how he did his senior year on the OL? The only stuff I could find (videos and comments) relate to him on the DL.My folks saw almost every game, but they don't follow recruiting and couldn't tell me who plays on the OL.
@Socrates B. Kronas @SUWANEEGEORGIA (git r dun coach pruitt) It sounds like he's coming in with the right attitude. I'm a Marist grad and wish him nothing but the best. But with all true freshmen trying to make a name in the first year, I hope the talent already here is enough to avoid any meaningful reps (which might be the case at tackle).
@SUWANEEGEORGIA (git r dun coach pruitt) Strong for high school and strong for the toughest conference in college football are two entirely separate things, too.
@PennQuarterDawg @BPoin34 I'm pretty sure that all charges were dropped on the 2nd issue. Regardless, the kid is constantly in the wrong place at the wrong time.
@SUWANEEGEORGIA (git r dun coach pruitt) I'm not Soc, but I doubt it. He's physically built for tackle. but he's raw. He played mostly defense in high school his senior season..
@ClassicCityDawg2010 I just told my son that he's watching the best pitcher in all of baseball right now.

Interesting how they discredit Murray's completion percentages. Partially because he is as efficient as any QB that we have ever had at UGA. When looking over the data, I really like the playcalling distribution by Bobo. I can see how Bobo and Spurrier avoid tendancies and require the QB to do a lot of things well.

I'm reading this now and thought I would throw it up here.http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46748/349/peshek-qb-metrics-20?pg=1QB comparisons in the SEC last year.
@RaleighDawg @BPoin34 Letting the swelling go down prior to the surgery was supposed to help the rehab. At least that's what I read as a reason for the delay (maybe Tiki can shed some light).I have heard of players doing strength training prior to knee work being done to help them come out on the other side quicker.

@J.H.D my son might like them. my wife really wants to get rid of it. i'm not ready to say that santa made a bad investment, yet.
@J.H.D we're thinking of selling our 360. the kids like minecraft, but never use it on the xbox. what games are you selling and would you be willing to part with them separate from the xbox?
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny thanks. i don't know how much zone scheme we employ. But Gurley is one of those backs who doesn't need a predetermined hole. If there's space, he'll find it. Or if there's a defender in the backfield, he'll stick his foot in the ground and ease his way elsewhere and still find that positive yardage.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny Do you reference the athleticism because of pass pro? Pulling guards? Or more of a zone blocking?
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny regarding Glenn in the pros: That seems to be the consensus that I see. Too low for All Pro nods. But damn fine in sacks allowed and team rushing yards.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny I have it in my head that Beard is struggling with the effort at guard. I can't see how one (of his build) would be capable of fighting for as much PT as he does at tackle and to be dismissed so quickly at guard. The last time he was at guard, it lasted less than 7 days. This time, we seem eager to get Pyke and Debell out there (although I'll readily acknowledge that this is what spring practice is for).
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny I still have a mancrush on Glenn. I'll catch some pro games, and the guy just 'catches' everything. He always seems in position on pass pro. Almost too big to get around. I don't know how well he's doing on running plays, but I had seen some stats about how successful the Buffalo running game had been doing in seasons past.
@DAWGinTX @J.H.D I understand wanting more. Until we win a Natty, we can all want more. But Bobo is one of those things that we will really appreciate when he's no longer on our sidelines (and recruiting). The guy is a hoss.
@dan765 His running stats in the scrimmage weren't great. His feats were on the screen game.I read that he was dominant in some drills. And that the offense in general moved the ball when he was out there on offense. But it wasn't necessarily all on his groundwork.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny Where would you rank Cordy Glenn? Elite? Just below? Pretty darned good?I'm trying to understand Mark Beard. I don't watch practice. But he appears in contention for playing time at tackle. But could be 4th on the depth chart at guard. Does that say something about our tackle position? Does that say something about Mark Beard? Or does it mean nothing because the positions are too different?
@Mike_Brooks14 The running stats from the scrimmage left a lot to be desired. Pruitt runs 8 in the box a lot. Even when the defense isn't blitzing, that's a lot of bodies stacking things up. I'm curious as to how he's lining the guys up.
