Anyways, I think Sonny Koufax should be acquitted of all the charges. If O.J. can get away with murder, why can't Sonny have his kid? - - - This guy knows what I'm talking about! No more questions!
@BirdDawg94 @Mike_Brooks14 Knowshon got more air under him. But he only had to navigate one defender and didn't have to start his jump as far out. Moreno makes a great flying leap (a better leap if that's what you are asking). Gurley starts his earlier and further out, has 2 defenders to beat, and never really gets a good leap. Gurley doesn't leap as much as he builds so much speed and momentum that he bullets into the endzone by removing his feet from the equation (i.e. his head doesn't really ever elevate).Better highlight... Moreno. More impressive feat... Gurley.

Murray and Stafford aren't comparable in terms of development time. Stafford finished his high school qb career as a 17 year old and was starting games for UGA as an 18 year old. His last game as Dawg was at 20 years old. Murray's first season at UGA finished as a 20 year old. He finished his career as a 23 year old. i understand not wanting to play a red shirt freshman... but Murray wasn't a typical situation. He was physically and mentally mature.

@Mike_Brooks14 @BartowCoDawg The reality is that the Auburn teammates who go to media days will be the ones punished. They get to handle those questions about what to do.The Media Days is a reward for the players. But Nick just made those kids' jobs a lot harder.

@Mike_Brooks14 Pruitt will have our DBs doing some better things than Grantham. That 3-3 zone. Tighter coverage on the line of scrimmage (which Shattle can excel at and Swann could be better because he's a blitz threat).

@Mike_Brooks14 Mike is the man reviewing DBs. I see an improved season from Swann... but not doing the things that Shattle does. We're going to own the line of scrimmage, and Swann will have a chance to play zone behind that pressure to pick off poor passes (much like his responsibilities in nickel 2 years ago). Shattle's film looks good. Real good. I would trust Mike's judgment that he can do more things very well under Pruitt and that will lead to significant moments in games.
Check out UGA's offensive playcalling versus south carolina last season. the ball was out under 3 seconds on every snap in the pocket. If we needed 3.5 seconds, Murray was rolling out. we were fairly healthy that game. we should be able to duplicate that this season.

3rd down is the money down. strike 1 and 2 don't mean anything for a pitcher if he can't get the out. there is a time to be money... and it is 3rd down.

@AzzKckrUGA-RYFKM Just Commit to the G @meansonny @DawgInBham ha.
@DawgInBham To me... it's a slow game. But the highlights are pretty damned high. That's for sure.I caught the last NHL finals game with my kids. The high points were about the same, but the action just ran and ran and ran. Playoff hockey > World Cup for me.
@DrTiki @meansonny He's a darned good football player. I have to remind myself that these are young men... and that I didn't have a head on my shoulders until I was 25 years old. Regardless, comments like that make me look at him differently.
@Lady C Does anyone know where we want him to weigh in at? I can't imagine that we want him too light if he's going to be right up on the line of scrimmage holding the edge.
@Mike_Brooks14 @GoBigDog Mike, You're getting into a gray area where kids can be recruited to leave a school on a whim. That's opening too many opportunities for wrongdoing (boosters with cash filling a position of need, coaches leaving and taking kids with them, or a kid transferring and recruiting buddies to follow him). I don't mind having a sitout year to prevent shortsighted whims aimed at 19 year olds.
@therealdray re: Oline is the largest grouping of players on the field at anytime. Well, you do get 5 DBs in nickel and we should have been in 6 DB dime more often last season. But I agree. We've been light on numbers for OL and DB considering how many you need at a moment's notice.
@DrTiki is that in relation to player rights (i.e. possibility of unionizing at private institutions)?
I still have to download it. I'm looking forward to it.

@Socrates B. Kronas @TampaDawg Soc, How many kids have you seen who are that physically developed at that age? I was up close with Jeff Backus and the Stinchcomb boys. They were big and gifted. But nothing like this hoss.

@CaliVisionz Agreed. Sounds great.
@RaleighDawg You've got to appreciate what Bama has built at tailback the last several years. Their question mark is if the offensive line can rebound from what is a down year for them in 2013.
Arkansas was good at sacks allowed last season. But the running game left a ton to be desired.
Who will be the best running team in the West? That's what I typically boil things down to.
Lots of loaded box. Lots of guys up on the line for FSU. They were able to send 5 on the snap for 1st and 2nd down and win with numbers against the running game. And because the box was crowded, the offensive line didn't know what 5 were charging in. FSU won the battles on 1st and 2nd down against the run. We didn't.
We were in more 4-2 nickel. A little smaller in the front 4. And it resulted in some struggles against the run.FSU ran a multitude of formations against the spread. They had a lot of 3-4. They had an equal percentage of 4-2-5 nickel. Pruitt didn't allow Clemson to dictate how they defend them. Pruitt didn't allow their OC or QB get settled in to one defensive style.
Pruitt will have a great 3rd down package.The other great news is that if we fail to stop the 3rd down, those same players will have preset alignments for 1st down and can line up faster than a hurry up offense.
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny I think your grasp of those spread option offenses is a lot better than mine. I had a hard time getting into that spread mindset because the word 'option' to me was always with a loaded backfield.You wrote all of that? Damn. It's impressive. Very, very impressive.

@Mike_Brooks14 Thanks for the PM/Email last night. It was a great read. I tried to reply back, but I don't know how/if that works.
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny @Dawgholio I see. We all can't be Jim Donnan, I guess.
@Dawgholio Do you mind if I ask you to elaborate?
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny Absolutely. I invented the internet for just such a sharing of ideas. Thanks, man.

I honestly thought that we were too light on the edges with what Grantham would offer in our nickel packages. Our strength was against LSU/N Texas who used more TE/HBack formations. That allowed us to crowd the line with a 5-2 front and plug up more plays before they got started.
@Mike_Brooks14 @J.H.D @DrTiki @RaleighDawg I don't think our run defense was up to snuff against spread teams last year. Clemson ran for 200 yards and 2 TDs last season. S.Car followed that up with 225 yards and 2 TDs.
@J.H.D @Mike_Brooks14 @DrTiki @RaleighDawg We neutralized a nasty D Line from S.Car last season. And I think a similar gameplan will be able to do the same against Clemson at home. ---The question I have is if our run defense will be ready for game1 of the season?
@Mike_Brooks14 Keep him at TB in my opinion. He's going to be a goalline stalker for us in 2015. That's a special skill to have and merits retaining him on offense.
@Mike_Brooks14 Is there a chance in hell that Houston could wind up a Falcon?

@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny I know what Mitchell is capable of. But I really think JSW and Mason have something together. I think they are going to shock the world (assuming JSW stays healthy)

Bigger 2014 campaign: Malcolm Mitchell, Justin Scott-Wesley, or Keith Marshall?
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny @Socrates B. Kronas The change of pace might be throwing to him out of the backfield. Give him 19 carries and 4+ catches per game and get the other cats involved.
@Mike_Brooks14 @WalktheDawg Whisky @meansonny I think Conley can be a #1 receiving threat. He wasn't able to make it last season. But he has a lot of the tools (height, length, leaping ability, hands, route-running). I love how he shows his hands at the last minute. But there are games (like with Orson Charles) where Chris just kind of disappears. And there are games where Murray was forcing the ball to him, and he couldn't make the great play.
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny @Socrates B. Kronas He (Gurley) is the key to our offense. But I hope we can be good enough that we don't need him every quarter. In this conference, that is asking a lot.
@Socrates B. Kronas @Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny I think the loss of Bennett is huge. He's one of those guys who can catch the ball despite not getting separation. A college football version of Tony Gonzalez, imo. He's missed 11 games the past couple of years and we have lost 4 of them.
@Socrates B. Kronas Wooten did. But our receivers got zero separation against Mizzou in particular (including Conley). It kind of reminded me of the 2012 South Carolina game to be honest.
@WalktheDawg Whisky @meansonny We still had guys like Conley and Lynch. Along with them, others like Davis, Rumph, and Wooten failed to step up. Our WRs failed to show up, but I wouldn't say that they all disappeared.
What's your OVER/UNDER on the 2014 Campaign?In 2013, we had 70 receptions, 8 of which were TDs, and 828 yards receiving all from the tailback position.I don't know that we ever had numbers like that before (this doesn't include FB where guys like Chapas and Southerland added a lot of TDs in years past).Pro's to the OVER: Full season potentially of a healthy Gurley and Marshall. A quick release QB in Mason. A dependable third option in Douglas (13 catches, 172 yards, and 1 TD). 2 stud freshmen who might not get a bunch of catches but could allow for an even larger focus in our offense from the tailback spot due to depth.Pro's for the UNDER: I don't know if we've ever had that type of TD production from the tailback spot. Moreno did catch 33 balls in 2008, but there wasn't a huge focus from the rest of the tailbacks that year (Samuel and King were 6 that year). We lose JJ Green to the defense (12 catches, 104 yards).1) Did you realize that tailback was such a big part of our passing offense in 2013?2) OVER/UNDER on 70 catches, 8 TDs, and 828 yards for 2014?3) Is that many receptions from the position a good thing (or is it an indicator that we were masking problems, and we shouldn't hope to replicate it again)?
@BirdDawg94 My favorite line from the article (Pruitt to Malkom Parrish, "I was telling him: You better get ready to play," Bobo said. "(Pruitt's) not afraid to play young guys. Last year at Florida State they lost nine guys off their defense when he took it over. So he played nine new players, they finished No. 1 in the country and started three freshmen in the secondary. So some of the things he did last year he's gearing up to do this year."
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://www.fieldstforum.com/c-c-c-5-14-14/
@BirdDawg94 Bobo isn't the type of coach to say that particular thing about his own side of the ball. He's very, very, very critical.It absolutely makes me feel better (and reminds me that Pruitt is used to coaching guys up from scratch with his high school background)
@RaleighDawg @meansonny @ColumbusRednBlkDawg @BirdDawg94 You win in this conference by running the rock in the SEC. Malzahn can do it. The Chin couldn't (he couldn't even field a top caliber defense).That's the reason that I smile the most when thinking of Chubb and Sony coming in. If we can run the football... we can win with a DB or TE at quarterback and with any type of defense.
@Boi1der Awesome. Coolest thing that I have seen all week. Especially the end with Chris Rainey shouting "Dawgs".
@ColumbusRednBlkDawg @BirdDawg94 I worry. But I grew up listening to Larry (and we haven't won a conference title in 8 seasons). Our team will be good. But will we be great. There is a marathon in between those two words.
