Anyways, I think Sonny Koufax should be acquitted of all the charges. If O.J. can get away with murder, why can't Sonny have his kid? - - - This guy knows what I'm talking about! No more questions!

@J.H.D. @meansonny I think you got the wrong guy. Mike is your coach. I could do "color analyst". I'm great at watching something and pointing out all the flaws after the fact (you can donate money to my kids' psychiatrist fund later). When I tell you what you should be doing... that's when you want to do the opposite. Don't take my stock advice, and you will retire before Richt does.
@dawgomaticforthepeople @Dapper Dan Man 14 @J.H.D. @meansonny bwahahahahah
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny Floyd looks bigger to me (but I may be biased). But he did start out the season at the Star position last year. They had Jones wide at OLB, at ILB/Money, and over the slot receiver in that clip. The point being that he's a threat to blitz and clean a play up for a loss at any given moment. I'm hoping to see this (also because it means we can keep another DL out there in the trenches with 5 DB formations)
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny @Socrates B. Kronas We've got the bodies to throw out there against opponents. I know that the buzzword today is "no name DL". But Pruitt is going to be rotating regardless. It's not about racking up stats for an individual or team. It's about hustling to the ball and shutting down the run game. If opponents are finding success out there running the football, it will be a Not For Long personnel grouping.
@Mike_Brooks14 Great video. I know it's a highlight reel... but he just owns his side of the field. I also like seeing how many clear shots he gets into the backfield. Rushing 5 defenders on the snap (and not the same 5 guys over and over and over) will get those clean shots that he saw so often. And that's how how a QB gets happy feet and turns the ball over.
@Mike_Brooks14 @meansonny @Socrates B. Kronas That's deeper than I ever got. I watched the Clemson and Auburn games. But I was focused primarily on splits and assignments without knowing who was who. I did see a lot of new 3rd down packages that did not run off the field if/when the opponent converted. They had a preset formation and typically were bringing pressure to winback the line of scrimage on first down. Against a hurry-up... I like that a lot.
@Socrates B. Kronas @meansonny Unfortunately, I don't follow too much football outside of the Dawgs. I check the alignments and assignments, but I don't know their guys. Ray Drew, John Atkins, and Toby Johnson are natural athletes. And Bailey/Dawson/DeLoach are the quicker body types that have done the heavy lifting to get to the size needed to play in this conference (i.e. the proper way to develop an athletic DL). I can't speak for Jernigan because I don't know Jernigan. But we've got 3 high 4 star/5 star guys. And we've got 3 OLBs who have beefed up. Not a bad formula if you ask me. We'll have to wait and see.
Mike... what's your take on the Swann buzz? I know that Pruitt loves to crowd the line to threaten blitz. And Swann is capable of playing in the backfield.Do you think Swann stays at CB because he's our best option? Is he going to be multi-tasked at star, money, and safety too (for what it's worth, it wouldn't shock me to see most of our guys multi-task... I just wonder if Swann would be "too good" to take out of coverage responsibilities).
@Dawgholio @Bleudawg Grantham's nickel was a 2-4-5 package. If you can't stop the run... then you can't stop anything. And that showed. Pruitt was groomed against those spread offenses in high school. I fully expect us to control the opponents run game (they might pass all over us, but I think I can take the pros and cons of that when it all boils down to a close game).
@J.H.D. I like it. I think we want playmakers who can take the action to the backfield from any position. Unfortunately, that is more likely going to drop an ILB as opposed to a DT. But if it gets more playmakers and more exotic pass rush/blitz options... it will absolutely be worth it. Floyd was our star player at the beginning of the season last year. He's our swiss army knife. And the guy who will be occupying a lot of attention by OCs and OL all season. He'll open up things for everyone else just by moving around the line.
@RaleighDawg @Dawgholio I read that Urban Meyer is having tightness in his chest. And that Muschamp is already in touch with Ohio State's AD.
@Socrates B. Kronas Interesting take, Soc. Does it mean anything to you that FSU's sack leader was a DB last season? Or that none of the FSU DL had more sacks than either Ray Drew or Garrison Smith? I just think it's going to be more of a team effort and pressure through numbers/angles.
@DC Dawg @RaleighDawg @ugadawgforever08 They lose a ton with the loss of Conner Shaw. However, they might be able to make that up if the OL improves and Davis does what he's capable. Running the football is the best place to start building your team, and they could be as good as any team in the East.
@RaleighDawg @PDawg @ugadawgforever08 Ward is over-rated. But that's coming from a guy who's team was happy when the last 2 DCs left town (Martinez/Grantham). Ward's career seems to be mirroring that of Martinez, though. He inherited a strong defense, and they have eased back a little each season since.
@007Dawg=Tuck Fech!!!! I haven't caught him on 11, yet. Is that the nightly news?

@007Dawg=Tuck Fech!!!! I never really read ESPN. But his podcast is not a bad listen. I haven't caught it since May, though. I've always liked Radi.
I liked the line of questioning. I just wish you would have let him stew a little longer in the long pauses after Soc gave him an opportunity to explain things. The answers and meat of the issue never were going to come out. But those awkward long pauses are worth the price of admission.

I'm liking the idea of early enrollees.
@CaliVisionz Thanks. I was having issues getting the comments to show on the page for some reason.
Turman will be a third year player after this season. If he decides to try something elsewhere, that experience is a factor on roster management.

I don't think the position matters. with 3 possible upperclassmen exits (turman, marshall, and gurley and no more green), there is position for experienced depth at both.
@TCJDawg I guess they figured he was being overpaid on the minor league contract and cut him. Hmmmm.

@ChevyDawg82 Does Swabby worry like Munson?
Worry weeks in order 1) South Carolina [home win streak] 2) Missouri [bye week before us] 3) Gators [with a good defense, they can keep every game close. mistakes on our part can lose close games like against Vandy]. 4) Auburn [tough running games win tough games]
@DrTiki @TCJDawg It's not just in your veins, Doc. cheers.
@TCJDawg Was. Was drinking. It's just ice now. :)
Under 9. FSU had a team leader at 5.5 last season and it wasn't a lb or de. I expect a much more team approach (and not trying to set everything up for the linebackers).

@BirdDawg94 @Mike_Brooks14 Knowshon got more air under him. But he only had to navigate one defender and didn't have to start his jump as far out. Moreno makes a great flying leap (a better leap if that's what you are asking). Gurley starts his earlier and further out, has 2 defenders to beat, and never really gets a good leap. Gurley doesn't leap as much as he builds so much speed and momentum that he bullets into the endzone by removing his feet from the equation (i.e. his head doesn't really ever elevate).Better highlight... Moreno. More impressive feat... Gurley.

Murray and Stafford aren't comparable in terms of development time. Stafford finished his high school qb career as a 17 year old and was starting games for UGA as an 18 year old. His last game as Dawg was at 20 years old. Murray's first season at UGA finished as a 20 year old. He finished his career as a 23 year old. i understand not wanting to play a red shirt freshman... but Murray wasn't a typical situation. He was physically and mentally mature.

@Mike_Brooks14 @BartowCoDawg The reality is that the Auburn teammates who go to media days will be the ones punished. They get to handle those questions about what to do.The Media Days is a reward for the players. But Nick just made those kids' jobs a lot harder.

@Mike_Brooks14 Pruitt will have our DBs doing some better things than Grantham. That 3-3 zone. Tighter coverage on the line of scrimmage (which Shattle can excel at and Swann could be better because he's a blitz threat).
1 month, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://www.fieldstforum.com/ccc-7-1-14/
@Mike_Brooks14 Mike is the man reviewing DBs. I see an improved season from Swann... but not doing the things that Shattle does. We're going to own the line of scrimmage, and Swann will have a chance to play zone behind that pressure to pick off poor passes (much like his responsibilities in nickel 2 years ago). Shattle's film looks good. Real good. I would trust Mike's judgment that he can do more things very well under Pruitt and that will lead to significant moments in games.
Check out UGA's offensive playcalling versus south carolina last season. the ball was out under 3 seconds on every snap in the pocket. If we needed 3.5 seconds, Murray was rolling out. we were fairly healthy that game. we should be able to duplicate that this season.

3rd down is the money down. strike 1 and 2 don't mean anything for a pitcher if he can't get the out. there is a time to be money... and it is 3rd down.

@AzzKckrUGA-RYFKM Just Commit to the G @meansonny @DawgInBham ha.
@DawgInBham To me... it's a slow game. But the highlights are pretty damned high. That's for sure.I caught the last NHL finals game with my kids. The high points were about the same, but the action just ran and ran and ran. Playoff hockey > World Cup for me.
@DrTiki @meansonny He's a darned good football player. I have to remind myself that these are young men... and that I didn't have a head on my shoulders until I was 25 years old. Regardless, comments like that make me look at him differently.
@Lady C Does anyone know where we want him to weigh in at? I can't imagine that we want him too light if he's going to be right up on the line of scrimmage holding the edge.
@Mike_Brooks14 @GoBigDog Mike, You're getting into a gray area where kids can be recruited to leave a school on a whim. That's opening too many opportunities for wrongdoing (boosters with cash filling a position of need, coaches leaving and taking kids with them, or a kid transferring and recruiting buddies to follow him). I don't mind having a sitout year to prevent shortsighted whims aimed at 19 year olds.
@therealdray re: Oline is the largest grouping of players on the field at anytime. Well, you do get 5 DBs in nickel and we should have been in 6 DB dime more often last season. But I agree. We've been light on numbers for OL and DB considering how many you need at a moment's notice.
@DrTiki is that in relation to player rights (i.e. possibility of unionizing at private institutions)?

@CaliVisionz Agreed. Sounds great.
@RaleighDawg You've got to appreciate what Bama has built at tailback the last several years. Their question mark is if the offensive line can rebound from what is a down year for them in 2013.
