I respect your opinions but I disagree with them as I found Michelle Gomez to be a superb Mistress/Master. I could definitely see echoes of previous Masters within her. She had the manipulative sophistication that all Masters had with a few welcome doses of craziness that John Simm's incarnation gave us. However, what I disagree with you the most on is your decision to quit Doctor Who if the Doctor becomes a woman. I don't want to come off as rude but this complaint annoys me. As long as the actor (or actress) gives a great performance and continues the essence of the Doctor, that's all that should really matter. The Doctor isn't going to stop being the Doctor simply because he becomes a she. This is just like when people were complaining about Matt Smith being too young and Peter Capaldi being too old. Age and gender are irrelevant when it comes to a character who could literally regenerate into anything. If the show continues on for quite some time, we're going to see the Doctor take on many different faces. He'll be old, he'll be young, he could be ginger, he could be black, he could be asian, and, yes, he could become a woman. Times are changing and the world is evolving. I have a feeling that we will see a female Doctor one day. Again, all that should matter is that the actor or actress fits the role of the Doctor. That's my opinion anyway.

@Clara Bosswald wants a Kate Stewart Spin-off I agree with most of your points. I liked the home scenes back in the RTD era though I agree that Series 8 found the better balance. I also was a bit more interested in the series arc than you were. That's pretty much it. I agree with everything else you said. And, yes, a spin-off involving Kate would be very nice. Marvel already has its Agents of Shield. It's about time Doctor Who got its UNIT!

@Clara Laurinda @JFrance I found it very interesting to see how Capaldi's Doctor interacted with children in comparison to Smith's Doctor. From how I see it, Smith's Doctor was more like the fun, eccentric uncle while Capaldi's Doctor was more like the grouchy yet lovable grandfather.
I adored Series 8 and it's easily one of my favorite seasons of the revived series. At the very least, I enjoyed every episode. It was a fantastic debut season for Capaldi's Doctor and, if she's leaving soon, it was a wonderful definitive season for Clara Oswald. While I loved Tennant's and Smith's Doctors, Capaldi was a welcome breath of fresh air. I quickly took a liking to him and now, as with Tennant and Smith, I adore him. I can't wait to see what the future of his tenure holds (adventures, monsters, companions, the like).
I look forward to many years of adventuring through time and space with you, Mr. Capaldi!

I've liked all of the finales. I just like some more than others. But my favorite is definitely The Name of the Doctor. Outstanding performances all around, great pacing, a great resolution to the Impossible Girl arc, tons of fantastic fanservice, a wonderful supporting cast in River and the Paternoster Gang, intimidating monsters in the Whispermen, and a mind-shattering ending twist with the reveal of John Hurt as the War Doctor!

A great read and a nice conclusion to this finale perspective series. And THANK YOU! I'm glad to finally see a positive review about the Series 8 finale on here. I'll admit that the finale has a few flaws (most lie in Death in Heaven) but I still loved both episodes and found them to be a satisfying conclusion for the series.

I'm very interested in seeing how this Christmas special plays out. Nick Frost as Santa. Clara returning. Alien-esque monsters at the North Pole. All of it has certainly grabbed my curiosity. In relation to Clara, I see this going in one of two ways. Either this will be Clara's final adventure with the Doctor or she'll decide to join the Doctor again and we'll get another season of Clara Oswald. I'm fine with either, if you ask me. If she leaves then I'll be satisfied with her fantastic tenure and I'll begin to excitably anticipate the arrival of the next companion. If she stays then I get to see more adventures involving my second favorite TARDIS team. It's a win-win for me!

@NotsoSmartguy I'm happy with it. It never went into bad territory for me. It's definitely one of my favorite seasons of New Who and it's home to some of my new favorite episodes like Listen and Flatline.
A hit for me. I already adore the 12th Doctor and I can't wait to see how his tenure develops from here!

I'm not sure whether I'm giving a popular or unpopular opinion here, given how thoughts about this episode seem to be all over the place, but I loved this finale. It has its flaws and I think "Dark Water" was superior but I still loved it. It was dark, it had a great villain in Michelle Gomez's Missy/Mistress, it was emotional, and it was an overall satisfying conclusion to Series 8. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here!

2 weeks, 1 day ago on Death in Heaven Advance Review
@Polyphase @NineTenElevenTwelve Yeah. And people are saying how the gender change has ruined the character of the Master. Yep. They could handle dancing to pop music, hand blasts, eating disorders, flying, and x-ray jump cuts but becoming a woman is where they draw the line. Some of the people in this fandom make my brain hurt. But, in all honesty, I actually like The End of Time and I found it to be a fitting conclusion for both Tennant's Doctor and Simm's Master.

Although it isn't one of my Series 7 favorites, I enjoyed Nightmare in Silver and I definitely prefer the 2013-onward design for the Cybermen versus their 2006-2011 design.

"This is my world too. I walk your Earth and breathe your air." I have a pretty good feeling that this is coming from the Doctor. That means he really listened to what Clara had to say to him back in Kill the Moon and took it to heart. That...or it could be some tree entity that's the cause of the problem in this episode. Just have to wait and see, I suppose.
3 weeks, 6 days ago on In the Forest of the Night – 12 Hints & Teasers
I've really enjoyed Capaldi's Doctor. He's a welcome change from the "boyfriend-type" Doctors that were Ten and Eleven. I absolutely adored Ten and Eleven, with Ten keeping the spot as my all-time favorite Doctor, but I'm also beginning to adore Twelve. I've liked him throughout all of Series 8 but it wasn't until the epic "I am a Doctor" scene in Flatline that I finally reached the point of adoring Capaldi's Doctor. The first series of each new Doctor is always the rockiest in terms of their characterization and traits as both the actor and writers are working on finding a specific set of traits for the new Doctor to stick with throughout the rest of his tenure. I'm really liking Capaldi's development (and Clara's alongside it). The little celebration dance he did in Flatline is proof enough that Capaldi's Doctor is already starting to mellow out a bit. I predict that by Series 9 we'll see a friendlier but still unpredictable and intimidating Twelfth Doctor. I can't wait to see how Series 8 concludes and I'm excited about what the future holds for the Twelfth Doctor!
4 weeks, 1 day ago on Who is the Twelfth Doctor?
An interesting alternate take on this argument. I've personally loved both the Doctor and Clara throughout Series 8 but, thanks to this article, I can now understand where some of the arguments are coming from (keyword being some). The first series for any new Doctor is always the rockiest in terms of their characterization as they're going about finding that Doctor's own quirks and personality traits. Also add in the fact that Clara is a crossover companion whose second Doctor is less friendly than her first (the only other crossover companion with this situation was Peri Brown as most crossover companions tend to get a friendlier in comparison second Doctor). I can understand Clara's frustration (which I could literally write an entire essay about explaining her thoughts and actions throughout Series 8 but I'd rather not do it here). If Clara ends up staying on through Series 9, I'll predict that she'll be on more friendly terms with the Twelfth Doctor as she will have gotten used to his personality and be familiar with what type of Doctor he is.

I'm liking the idea of the Doctor, Clara, and Danny leading a group of kids through an overgrown London. I'm getting some strong 11/young Amy vibes from the pics with the Doctor and the girl in the red jacket. Should be an interesting episode. Hopefully, these kids will be more likable than Angie and Artie were (though, for the record, I didn't dislike Angie and Artie as much as everyone else seems to).

This episode was simply amazing. A great supporting cast, great monsters, excellent effects, and both the 12th Doctor and Clara got to shine exceptionally. I've adored Capaldi's Doctor throughout this season but this episode is what made me completely fall in love with his character; and it was great to see the 12th Doctor finally get his epic "I am the Doctor" moment. This may actually tie with Listen for being my favorite episode of Series 8. 10/10 from me.

Fantastic article! Agreed with everything you had to say. I've loved Clara since Series 7 and Series 8 is shaping up to be her definitive season. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her...even if that future only extends to the Series 8 finale or the 2014 Christmas special.

@Ottoman14 To be fair here, is there a rule that states that all companions need to have the same reactions to certain situations? Clara is different from other companions because she's a different person, as is every other companion in relation to each other. Yeah, some companions wouldn't find it amusing but I'm sure that there are some who would (given that there was no immediate danger to the Doctor, themselves, or anyone they care for because of it). Not to mention that what we saw in this clip was merely a portion of a larger scene. Who's to say, as of now, that Clara didn't have a more shocked reaction prior to the events in this clip?
1 month, 1 week ago on Flatline Clip
@kristo00 @NineTenElevenTwelve Not all of them have. Deep Breath was equally focused on the Doctor and Clara, Into the Dalek had Clara take sort of a back seat role (aside from the parts at Coal Hill School), Robot of Sherwood had Clara do a bit more than the Doctor, Listen was about equally focused on the Doctor and Clara, Time Heist had Clara take somewhat of a back seat role, The Caretaker was Clara-centered, Kill the Moon focused on both the Doctor and Clara, and Mummy on the Orient Express was mostly Doctor-centered. In my opinion, the Doctor and Clara have gotten equal focus throughout Series 8.
Aside from the off effects used when we see Capaldi's face in the small TARDIS, I loved this clip! Flatline is one of my most anticipated episodes this series. Love the title, love that it's Clara-centered, love the idea of a shrinking TARDIS, and love the concept of the monsters we'll be seeing. Onwards to Saturday!
@EvilZygonRabbit @ Notsosmartguy likes watching "Clara Who" @RUAZ The people who hate Clara will find any reason to hate her and they will continue to do so until the next companion comes along. And then the people who hate that companion will find any reason to hate them and they will continue to do so until the next companion comes along. And then the people who hate that companion...you get the picture.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Much like what the case was with Listen, not much is known about this episode's plot. All that seems to be known is that this will be Clara-centered, the Doctor will be trapped in a shrinking TARDIS, some community service workers will help Clara, and there's apparently creatures who hide in graffiti. Man, I can't believe we're already down to the final four episodes. Two standalone episodes and then the first 2-parter since 2011! And then we return to the dreaded hiatus period until Christmas and then we enter another period of waiting until Series 9. Yay.
I really liked this episode. A great monster, a great 20's/futuristic setting, and some nice characterization for the Doctor. At first, I was a bit disappointed that this wasn't a Doctor-centered episode with no Clara but I really liked seeing the repercussions from "Kill the Moon" continuing on into this episode and I'm really interested in seeing how Clara's relationship with the Doctor continues from here. But, is it just me, or was something...off about the ending scene with the Doctor and Clara? Not in a bad way, just in a suspicious way. It felt like Clara's hiding something from the Doctor. Overall, a solid 9/10 from me.

@Jimmio78 Age is irrelevant. How hard is it to guess that Lundvik's grandmother was skilled with technology and posted things to Tumblr when Lundvik was a teenager? Lundvik could have just been remembering her teenage years when her grandmother posted things to Tumblr. It's like if I said, "My grandmother used to record television shows on her VCR."

I can't vote because I equally understand both sides of the argument. Were the Doctor's intentions good? Yes. Was Clara's reaction believable and warranted? Yes. Could the Doctor have gone about a better way of doing things? Yes. Did Clara overreact a bit? Yes. Both the Doctor and Clara are as much at fault as they are in the right.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Kill the Moon: Clara or the Doctor?
It looks like we'll have a Doctor-centric, Clara-lite episode next week and then a Clara-centric, Doctor-lite episode the week after that. I really like this because this'll give Capaldi's Doctor a chance to shine on his own without Clara (though I've absolutely adored them together) and we'll be able to see how both characters deal with the falling out while on their own.

@Master Michael Moon From where I'm standing, I think it was made pretty clear that there was a monster in Midnight. How else would you explain the knocking, the front cab and drivers being torn away, the possession of Sky and her ability to mimic what everybody else said, and the eventual possession of the Doctor? I don't think simple "hallucinations" could have caused all that. The monster in Listen, on the other hand, is more debatable as the question of its existence was left open. I personally believe there was a monster but I'm happy that we never found out because, in the long run, it doesn't matter either way.
