This episode was simply amazing. A great supporting cast, great monsters, excellent effects, and both the 12th Doctor and Clara got to shine exceptionally. I've adored Capaldi's Doctor throughout this season but this episode is what made me completely fall in love with his character; and it was great to see the 12th Doctor finally get his epic "I am the Doctor" moment. This may actually tie with Listen for being my favorite episode of Series 8. 10/10 from me.

Fantastic article! Agreed with everything you had to say. I've loved Clara since Series 7 and Series 8 is shaping up to be her definitive season. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her...even if that future only extends to the Series 8 finale or the 2014 Christmas special.

@Ottoman14 To be fair here, is there a rule that states that all companions need to have the same reactions to certain situations? Clara is different from other companions because she's a different person, as is every other companion in relation to each other. Yeah, some companions wouldn't find it amusing but I'm sure that there are some who would (given that there was no immediate danger to the Doctor, themselves, or anyone they care for because of it). Not to mention that what we saw in this clip was merely a portion of a larger scene. Who's to say, as of now, that Clara didn't have a more shocked reaction prior to the events in this clip?

@kristo00 @NineTenElevenTwelve Not all of them have. Deep Breath was equally focused on the Doctor and Clara, Into the Dalek had Clara take sort of a back seat role (aside from the parts at Coal Hill School), Robot of Sherwood had Clara do a bit more than the Doctor, Listen was about equally focused on the Doctor and Clara, Time Heist had Clara take somewhat of a back seat role, The Caretaker was Clara-centered, Kill the Moon focused on both the Doctor and Clara, and Mummy on the Orient Express was mostly Doctor-centered. In my opinion, the Doctor and Clara have gotten equal focus throughout Series 8.

Aside from the off effects used when we see Capaldi's face in the small TARDIS, I loved this clip! Flatline is one of my most anticipated episodes this series. Love the title, love that it's Clara-centered, love the idea of a shrinking TARDIS, and love the concept of the monsters we'll be seeing. Onwards to Saturday!
@EvilZygonRabbit @ Notsosmartguy likes watching "Clara Who" @RUAZ The people who hate Clara will find any reason to hate her and they will continue to do so until the next companion comes along. And then the people who hate that companion will find any reason to hate them and they will continue to do so until the next companion comes along. And then the people who hate that companion...you get the picture.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Much like what the case was with Listen, not much is known about this episode's plot. All that seems to be known is that this will be Clara-centered, the Doctor will be trapped in a shrinking TARDIS, some community service workers will help Clara, and there's apparently creatures who hide in graffiti. Man, I can't believe we're already down to the final four episodes. Two standalone episodes and then the first 2-parter since 2011! And then we return to the dreaded hiatus period until Christmas and then we enter another period of waiting until Series 9. Yay.
I really liked this episode. A great monster, a great 20's/futuristic setting, and some nice characterization for the Doctor. At first, I was a bit disappointed that this wasn't a Doctor-centered episode with no Clara but I really liked seeing the repercussions from "Kill the Moon" continuing on into this episode and I'm really interested in seeing how Clara's relationship with the Doctor continues from here. But, is it just me, or was something...off about the ending scene with the Doctor and Clara? Not in a bad way, just in a suspicious way. It felt like Clara's hiding something from the Doctor. Overall, a solid 9/10 from me.

@Jimmio78 Age is irrelevant. How hard is it to guess that Lundvik's grandmother was skilled with technology and posted things to Tumblr when Lundvik was a teenager? Lundvik could have just been remembering her teenage years when her grandmother posted things to Tumblr. It's like if I said, "My grandmother used to record television shows on her VCR."

I can't vote because I equally understand both sides of the argument. Were the Doctor's intentions good? Yes. Was Clara's reaction believable and warranted? Yes. Could the Doctor have gone about a better way of doing things? Yes. Did Clara overreact a bit? Yes. Both the Doctor and Clara are as much at fault as they are in the right.

It looks like we'll have a Doctor-centric, Clara-lite episode next week and then a Clara-centric, Doctor-lite episode the week after that. I really like this because this'll give Capaldi's Doctor a chance to shine on his own without Clara (though I've absolutely adored them together) and we'll be able to see how both characters deal with the falling out while on their own.

I can't say enough how much I ADORE the Twelfth Doctor and Clara's chemistry! They bounce off each other so well! I can't wait for this episode! Also, is it just me or, in the clip, did Capaldi's smile to Clara at 0:59 have a sort of Matt Smith-ish vibe to it?

I have to say that Time Heist is my favorite Steve Thompson episode. But I also really liked Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS (save its mediocre guest cast) and I'm part of the minority that actually liked The Curse of the Black Spot a bit.

@Master Michael Moon From where I'm standing, I think it was made pretty clear that there was a monster in Midnight. How else would you explain the knocking, the front cab and drivers being torn away, the possession of Sky and her ability to mimic what everybody else said, and the eventual possession of the Doctor? I don't think simple "hallucinations" could have caused all that. The monster in Listen, on the other hand, is more debatable as the question of its existence was left open. I personally believe there was a monster but I'm happy that we never found out because, in the long run, it doesn't matter either way.
Really looking forward to this one. I've been anticipating seeing more of Clara's life as a teacher and seeing more of Coal Hill School. I'm also looking forward to seeing Danny and the Doctor meet and getting a full appearance by Courtney Woods.

I give it a solid 8/10. Interesting side characters, lots of funny moments, great production design, a suspenseful plot, and an intimidating monster. Though, in my opinion, the ending felt a bit rushed and the fate of the two Tellers felt like a rehash of the monster love story in Hide. But, overall, a really good episode.

@DaftDalek is Ceter Papaldi @Master Michael Moon I know this is all just opinions but, from where I'm standing, Night Terrors never had a moment as low as when a woman was literally transformed into a living BJ toy. Just sayin'.

@supermoff is playing Grand Theft Karabraxos... @Master Michael Moon Am I the only person who actually likes Fear Her and Night Terrors? I mean, they're not the most spectacular of episodes but, in my opinion, they're enjoyable romps and I honestly can't see why people label them as "horrible".
I absolutely loved Listen but Blink remains to be my second favorite episode (coming in right behind The Day of the Doctor). So, obviously, I'm voting for Blink.
After reading these previews and teasers, I feel very much in the dark about where I think Capaldi's Doctor and the show are going...and I LOVE IT! I'm as excited about the rest of Series 8 as I am anxious. It looks like things are going to get incredibly dark after The Caretaker and I can't wait to see how things turn out.
1 month ago on DWM: Things will never be the same again after Kill the Moon
It looks like the real dark stuff that everyone's been talking about kicks in in the later half of Series 8. From where I stand, it appears that The Caretaker will be the last "light-hearted" episode of the season. Kill the Moon and Mummy on the Orient Express are being teased to being extremely dark and showcasing the Doctor at his scariest, Flatline is teased to being a scary horror story by the end, not much is known about In the Forest of the Night aside from trees coming back and there being a lot of child actors (so that episode could potentially be light-hearted), and the two-part finale, Dark Water and Death in Heaven, I assume will be pretty dark and intense.

In my opinion, this episode was absolutely amazing. I loved everything about it. The reveal at the end with Clara finding herself in the Doctor's childhood was a brilliant twist that made my jaw drop. I'm also really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for both Clara and Danny. Capaldi also REALLY came into his own as the Twelfth Doctor in this episode and this was easily his best performance in the series thus far. So far, Series 8 is shaping up to be one of my favorite series of the show (though, I don't want to overblow my expectations for the rest of the episodes so I'll remain cautiously optimistic). My rankings thus far: Deep Breath = 9/10, Into the Dalek = 7/10, Robot of Sherwood = 8/10, Listen = 10/10

This episode was...just...AWESOME! I loved every moment of this episode! The pacing was great, the atmosphere was creepy, both the Doctor and Clara were fantastic (as usual), Orson was a nice little twist, it was great seeing more of Danny and literally seeing his backstory, and...that...ENDING! OH MY GOD! Sorry if I sound like I'm fanboying out because...well...that's exactly what I'm doing. Needless to say, I loved this episode and it's easily the best one of Series 8 thus far! 10/10!

I thought Danny and the Doctor were going to meet in Listen. That makes me even more interested in learning about Danny's role in this week's upcoming episode! In relation to The Caretaker, I'm really looking forward to this episode. I've been really excited about seeing more of Clara's teacher life and it'll be cool to have a Coal Hill-centered episode. I've also really liked all of Gareth Roberts's episodes thus far so that's another reason for me to look forward to this. :)

Normally, I'd click on the "show" button because I usually don't mind looking at slightly spoiler-ish pictures. I even did this when The Day of the Doctor promo pics were released. But, for some reason, I just don't want to do that for this episode. Maybe it's because this episode has just so much mystery about it. Out of all of Series 8's episodes, this is arguably the episode we know the least about. All we know about the episode is that it involves a date between Clara and Danny, the Doctor's supposed to have a slight mental breakdown about something that scares him, there's a little boy, there's something beneath beds and grabbing kids' feet, and, gotta say it, we have to LISTEN! This is easily one of my most anticipated episodes this season. Saturday can't come fast enough!

Personally, I've enjoyed Moffat's episodes as a showrunner and, in my opinion, he's still managed to give us several great episodes. My favorite being The Day of the Doctor. The main reason why I'm anticipating Listen so much is because we know next to nothing about it; and that's AWESOME! I love going into new episodes with no idea about what lies in store. And the unpredictability of Capaldi's darker Doctor only adds more suspense to the mix. I don't want to over-hype myself and end up disappointed when my overbloated expectations aren't met but I'm still hoping that this episode proves to be one of Moffat's greats. It has a lot of potential. Let's hope it lives up to it. :)

I just noticed that all of the episodes of Series 8 thus far involve the Doctor not believing in the existence of something. In Deep Breath it was the Promised Land, in Into the Dalek it was a good Dalek, and here it was Robin Hood. I wonder if the Doctor not believing in something that turns out to be true is going to be a running theme throughout Series 8 (and possibly the rest of Capaldi's tenure).

@Planet of the Deaf @supermoff of Sherwood Maybe she's someone who adopts different accents. Just a random theory. It would be interesting if after every few phrases of dialogue she changes her accent. It could potentially make her a far more difficult character to read.

Really looking forward to this episode. Too bad this will be the last episode of Series 8 to be set in the past.
I enjoyed this episode. The supporting cast was pretty forgettable for the most part and most of the Daleks held few surprises for me. However, I enjoyed seeing the journey into the Dalek Fantastic Voyage style, the Twelfth Doctor and Clara continued to bounce off each other extremely well, I enjoyed getting a fresh and interesting look at the morality of the Daleks, Journey Blue was a good supporting character, and I've already taken a liking to Danny Pink (PTSD wounds, awkwardness, and all). Overall, I give the episode a 7/10.

I voted 9/10 so I'm satisfied with the first poll. I noted No for the second poll but given what we saw the Doctor do with Ross in Into the Dalek I think I'm just stuck in the middle now. I voted for Deep Breath because I just enjoyed it slightly more than The Eleventh Hour; but, personally, I think comparing the two episode was like comparing apples and oranges. Both episodes are fantastic but in different ways. It's like trying to compare two episodes like, just for example, Blink and The Girl Who Waited. Two incredible episodes but for very different reasons.

I just realized that this episode and Deep Breath are the only episodes this season to take place in the past. I'm really looking forward to this episode. I've liked most of Mark Gatiss's episodes and I'm looking forward to seeing the show's take on Robin Hood. Also, I like me some medieval England. And, gotta say it, Clara looks pretty damn good in that medieval dress and...tiara? What's she wearing on her head? Oh and the Doctor has a new purple shirt under his crombie coat. He's only been in his official outfit for one full episode and a sliver of another and he's already changing things up. And it looks like the Sheriff of Nottingham's creeping on Clara. I wonder if she'll slap him. As of now, this looks like it's going to be a fun romp of an episode.
This wasn't an episode that I was particularly excited for and while it's probably not going to go down as one of my Series 8 favorites I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked the idea of going inside a Dalek Fantastic Voyage style and there were several great moments of dialogue here and there. But, in all honesty, my favorite parts of the episode were when we got to see Clara at Coal Hill School and got introduced to Danny Pink. I guess this is mostly because I've personally grown a bit tired by the Daleks and, going into this episode, I was WAY more interested in seeing Clara's teacher life. But, in the end, it was an enjoyable episode.

I love the new opening sequence. My only gripe is the high pitch of the theme tune in the latter half of the opening. But I've watched the opening several times now and the pitch doesn't annoy me as much as it used to. By the way, am I the only one who liked the Series 7B opening? Aside from the TARDIS doors opening the wrong way, I found it to be an exciting and energetic opening. In my humble opinion, it was a huge improvement over the 2010-2012 opening. Moving on, this current opening is currently my favorite in terms of visuals. In terms of music, my favorite is the Series 4 tune.
