@Alleigh member of P.O.N.D.S Well, my opinion isn't correct for all. We all have different opinions. I loved Listen. That's just my opinion. I have no problem with people disliking it. I was just pointing out to 4sure that I had more reasons for loving that episode aside from simply seeing the Doctor as a child.

@4sure @SpontaneousFork Well that's your opinion. There are many reasons why I personally love "Listen" aside from seeing the Doctor as a child. The exploration of everyone's fear of the unknown, the seamless blend of slice-of-life and science fiction horror elements, Danny's backstory, the interactions between the Doctor and Clara, the overall tone and atmosphere, the perfect pacing, the ambiguity of the entity's existence, et cetera. But this is just my opinion.

@madmanwithabox21 I enthusiastically disagree. I personally found The Name of the Doctor to be a superb episode and a perfect conclusion to the Impossible Girl arc (which I also really liked). It is in fact my favorite finale thus far. But that's just my opinion. However, "Let's just face it"?! Apparently, according to you, it's a fact that the Impossible Girl story didn't work. Uh...no. That's your opinion and you have every right to it but it is not a fact. I'm sorry for being a bit blunt that that really rubbed me the wrong way. I have no problems with people disliking stuff I like but I draw the line at someone talking about their opinions as if they're fact.

I'm not trying to be rude here but, to me, it feels like a backwards double standard. The core of the Earth being a Racnoss spaceship? Okay. A star being alive and able to possess people? Okay. @joe4 It all depends on execution. If someone simply states that they don't like Moffat but that they respect the opinions of those who do, that's all good. It's when it devolves into personal attacks against Moffat and anyone who likes him where things get messy. I can't stand people who treat their opinions as fact and claim that anyone who has a differing opinion is an idiot. For example, I personally love Clara. That's my opinion and I have no problem with those who have a differing opinion as long as they respect mine. I once got into a conversation with someone who was on the opposite end of the Clara spectrum and they literally said that anyone who likes Clara is mentally challenged. That's where I draw the line.

This is an article that A LOT of people in this fandom need to read. My philosophy is: like or dislike whatever the hell you want, just don't be a jerk about it. We're a large, diverse fandom filled with people of differing opinions, likes, dislikes, etc. Just because someone likes something you think is bad doesn't make them an idiot. Just because someone dislikes something you think is good doesn't make them a hater. As long as the opinion is being expressed in a respectful manner, let them have their opinion. Let the people hate what you like, it's their opinion. Let the people love what you hate, don't try to take the joy away from them. Don't let the opinions of others sway your opinion. Respect others' opinions but, at the end of the day, the most important opinion you should listen to is your own. Don't let the negative opinions of others alter your enjoyment of a certain aspect of the show. Don't let the positive opinions of others make you feel like your negative opinion is stupid. Let's just all enjoy what we love, dislike what we hate, and kindly agree to disagree with those of differing viewpoints.

I tend to be a more positive and optimistic fan. There are certainly nitpicks here and there that have bugged me but the show has mostly failed to provide me an episode that I outright despised. At worst, I can feel that an episode is "okay". There's only one episode of the revival that I dislike (a certain Series 2 episode) but I have no problem with people who like it. I have no problems with people who are critical or negative about episodes and characters I like. My philosophy is: like or dislike whatever the hell you want, just don't be a jerk about it. I think this fandom would be a much friendlier place if people went around with that mentality.

@Stradiwhovius There are many reasons why I personally love Listen. Firstly, I love how it seamlessly blends slice-of-life elements (the date) with sci-fi and horror elements (the Hiders and so on). I also found the episode to have a wonderfully creepy atmosphere and tone. I found its concept to be an exceptional exploration of the greatest fear we all face: the fear of the unknown; along with how it gave a pretty creepy possible explanation as to why we are compelled to talk aloud when we're alone. I also feel that the episode brings across a fantastic moral: fear is a superpower. A lot of people are embarrassed to admit when they're afraid (no matter what the age) but this episode shows that it's okay to be afraid because fear is something we all face and is something that can potentially bring out the best in us. The ending scene with Clara and the young Doctor has also gone on to become one of my all-time favorite scenes in the history of the show. I know a lot of people complained that this scene made Clara too important and made her outshine all of the other companions; however, I'm willing to bet money that nobody would be complaining if Sarah Jane Smith were in this scene instead of Clara (even though, no disrespect to the amazing Elisabeth Sladen or Sarah Jane Smith, Clara is more qualified and fitting for that scene). Besides, what Clara did is something any companion would have done in that moment: Sarah Jane, Rose, Martha, Amy, River, whathaveyou. But, moving on, I don't see that scene as Clara alone being the one to inspire the younger Doctor but rather the Doctor himself inspiring his younger self through Clara as Clara is, for the most part, repeating what she's heard the Doctor say in the past. And those are the main reasons why I personally love Listen.

I voted for the Listen Entity as I loved the ambiguity regarding its existence as well as how it acted as an exceptional portrayal of the ultimate fear: the fear of the unknown. The robot knights had a cool design but not much else. The Teller had a great design as well as one of the best monster introductions in the history of the show IMO but its backstory was a bit too similar to the Crooked Man's from Hide. The Skovox Blitzer was a fun background monster to have in such a character-driven episode. The Spider Germs were very creepy and I loved the way they moved and sounded. The Foretold was an incredibly scary and interesting monster. The Boneless were fantastic and reminded me a lot of the Vashta Nerada. The Kantofarri were an interesting concept that provided some very creepy moments.

This is just evil. I adored both Peter and Jenna as they really brought their respective characters to life in the best way possible. It's practically impossible for me to choose between them as I loved them both. But, if I really have to choose, I guess I'll go with Jenna Coleman by a very, very small margin; if only for the fact that this was Capaldi's first season and, thus, he and the writers had to work out Twelve's quirks and habits throughout the course of the season.

I personally liked the inclusion of Clara's home life as I enjoyed seeing more into her life as a teacher at Coal Hill School. I also liked Danny Pink. I didn't love him and I'll admit that his story could have been executed better in some aspects but I'm overall satisfied with the story he had with Clara and how it all concluded. I also disagree about the pacing being bad. I personally feel that Series 8 had some incredibly well-paced episodes. I also disagree about Listen being repetitive. I felt it was an incredibly well-paced story that seamlessly blended slice-of-life elements with sci-fi/horror elements.

I am very happy that I get to spend another season with my second favorite TARDIS team (my first being 10 and Donna). Though, I am hoping that we get a second companion this season (Shona, please?!). Obviously, this is most definitely Clara's last season (by the end, she's going to beat Amy as the longest running companion of New Who!) and I'm very interested to see how her departure plays out (especially since I feel the scene with old Clara would have been a perfect departure for the character...too bad they used it so soon).

I really enjoyed this special. Capaldi and Coleman were fantastic (as always), Nick Frost was great as Santa, the supporting cast was really good (I'd be up for seeing Shona become a companion), and the story was a good mix of emotion, horror, and comedy. And since I'm one of the five people in the fandom who liked Danny, I found the dream sequence with him to be a very poignant moment. And, I'm REALLY glad that Clara's staying for Series 9. This isn't my favorite Christmas special but I think it could definitely grow to become one of my favorites.

I expected the top three to be Tennant, Smith, and Tom Baker in any order but I am very happy to see Eccleston get so much love. While Tennant was my first Doctor and the one who ultimately got me into Doctor Who (who also went on to become my favorite Doctor), Eccleston's era was the first era of Doctor Who I watched in full (before continuing on into the rest of New Who). That alone makes his Doctor hold a special place in my heart.
