I was 13 years old just finishing up 7th grade.  The first season I really remember watching the Rangers often was 1989-90.  My parents let me put a TV in my room that year so I could play Nintendo, but also for Christmas hooked up a cable box.  Being the developing sports fan that I was, this allowed me to watch Sportschannel and MSG.  Luckily for me, I decided to root for the MSG network teams (Yanks, Rangers, Knicks) and not Sportschannel (Mets, Devils, Isles, Nets). While I learned baseball and football from my dad, he was not a hockey fan at all.  My uncle lived nearby and I spent a good amount of time with him in those late 80s/early 90s years and I became a hockey fan because of him, and a Rangers fan because of him.  I remember my parents letting me crash at his apartment on game nights during the 1992 playoff run because I wanted someone to watch the games with;  the Pens series broke both our hearts.

Unfortunately, my uncle passed away unexpectedly in the summer of 1993.  What made the Cup run in 93-94 so great was that although he was gone, I still felt his presence was with me when watching the games...and I'd like to think he enjoyed watching it from wherever he is now.

People who say "send the amateurs".  Here's the problem with that:  other countries still send professionals.  Guess what, Kovalchuk still plays in this game today if there were no NHL players allowed.  He's in the KHL now.  Still a pro though, just not an NHL'er.

How would it be fair for us to be stuck sending college kids, while Russia could send KHL players?  or other Euro players can send pros from their leagues?

It would be going back to the pre-NHL days of when the US kept getting screwed by being stuck with using amateurs against pros.

Yeah I hated so much when he was in Pittsburgh.  Still remember him scoring on a penalty shot and then scoring late in Game 5 to beat us back in the 1992 playoffs.  Then there was the Mario/Jagr double hat trick game to eliminate us in 1996.  He even scored the game-winner in OT 1999 in Gretzky's last game.  He just killed us over the years.  But that hatred went away when he came here and along with Hank turned our franchise around.  He made us relevant again, made us matter again after so many years of being an terribly irrelevant organization.  His 2005-06 year is the best year I've ever seen a Rangers player have, and there is a good chance that will remain so for a long time.  Its too bad he was screwed out of the Hart Trophy that year.  He performed well in the 07 and 08 playoff runs.  I'll always appreciate what he did for us.  When his career is over, I hope anytime he is shown on the jumbotron at MSG he gets a nice standing O.

@NH_NYR_88 Just being a realist.  I hope we do go on a Cup run but this years team hasnt given me a reason to believe they are capable of such.  We've beaten the Pens how many times the last few seasons?  And we'll suddenly beat them 4 out of 7?  After a full season of us being mediocre?  Like I said, I hope it happens but I wont be confident until being given a reason to be.

I guess if you want to go to a playoff game, better make sure you buy tickets to Game 3 or 4 of the 1st round.  Those will be our only home games this season.

Not sure if this comparison has been made yet...but minus the shortened season doesnt this remind anyone alot of 1992-93?  1991-92 we had the great season winning the Presidents Trophy, our first really great regular season in years.  Strong playoff run.  Expectations going into 1992-93 were sky high for a Cup run.  It just didnt happen.  Players underachieved, injury after injury happened, the coach lost the players and the team just totally crapped out.  Yet it seemed to really galvanize the organization going into 93-94, we found the right coach, some personnel changes were made and of course we all know what happened that year.

Sather has to do something big this offseason.  We cant go into next season with essentially the same roster as last year.  We cant play the same style of play we did last year every night....it wore the team down as it got late in the season (just check their record from mid Feb thru the end of the playoffs.  We also saw how the team couldnt sustain a full 60 minute effort towards the end of the reg season and in the playoffs).  We need to be able to rely on our offense to win some games, and not have to win every game 1-0/2-1/3-2 and treat every single game from October thru June as if its Game 7 of the Finals.

We simply cant win a Cup next year playing the same way we did last year every game.  Gotta add offense.

@maxie  @Beckfan5  I'm sorry, I think Bickel is terrible.  He's been playing at an AHL level for several weeks now.

Why the hell does Bickel remain in the lineup?  he's been AWFUL for awhile now

I trust Erixon much more then the awfulness that is Bickel.  Stralman should be back in the lineup...Bickel should be sitting up in the press box.

This collapse is starting to feel like the 05-06 season...except its happening a few weeks earlier then that one did.  Sadness.  A great season that was ruined by a horrible finish....same thing thats happening in 11-12.  Pisses me off that we were in 1st for basically 3 months, yet we're gonna end up with the 4 seed or maybe lose home ice altogether.  Playing the Pens w/o home ice in the 2nd round makes things even tougher.

It always seemed to me that as soon as Shockey didnt get the ball in the 1st Q...he would start pouting and basically quit on the rest of the game.  I never have any sympathy for players who do that, or show up their QB after a play in which they "felt" the ball should have come their way.

Oh those Redskins....Daniel Snyder LOL.  As long as that guy is the owner, the Skins are one team we never have to really worry about in terms of competing for the division.

I hope the Giants are not counting on Hixon or Barden to fill Mario's spot.  You cant rely on either one....they are constantly getting hurt.

We really need a 5-1-1 homestand...or something like it.  The Piitsburgh game is a must win of the highest order.  That team is downright scary right now.

Its really simple.  This team is an elite team when their defense and goaltending is on lockdown.  They are barely a playoff team (if not worse) when its not.  Their offense doesnt have the ability to pick up the slack when the defense/goaltending falters...other top teams do have that ability and thats what seperates them from us.

How you feel about this team going forward probably depends on if you think our defense going down the toilet and average goaltending lately is a slump...or if its something more i.e our back line being worn down, out of gas and/or they were playing above their heads the first 60 games.

Not only are we struggling...everyone behind us is red hot.  We're like a marathon runner who led comfortably from Mile 10-25....yet we're on Mile 26, out of gas and we're being caught from behind.

Biron was awful tonight.  I thought we started the game well.  First 5-6 minutes it was all Rangers...got the early goal and we were generating offense.  Then Biron lets in the softie and its like we couldnt recover from that.  7 SOG's allowed the first 2 periods, yet we were trailing.  Unacceptable.  I dont know how that first goal beat him.  From the outside, no screen and he barely moved his glove.

Our PP is beyond dreadful.  I think its more poor strategy then anything.  We dont have guys in the right areas, and our decision making is too slow.

This team doesnt seem capable of playing a full 60 minute game anymore.  Not sure if we're worn down, coming back to earth i.e did we play above our heads the first 60 games?, or a combination of things.  All I know is we're not far away from being in trouble.

I didnt like benching Stralman either.  Ok he had a horrible turnover on Sunday that led to a goal but he also created offense.  We need his offense on the back line.

@KevinDeLury yeah sorry to bring THAT name up....but some of the turnovers I've seen from the defense lately have reminded me of him.

The defense better get things straightened out....the amount of turnovers and coverage mistakes the past two weeks has been pre-lockout type stuff.  I could have sworn Karpa, Ulanov and Quintal were on the ice tonight.  This team cant go anywhere in the playoffs with the defense playing the way it has been lately.  Just awful hockey from this team as of late.  Other then the Carolina game, when's the last time you saw a solid 60 minute effort?

Gonna suck to not have DZ and Cally tommorrow.  Boston could cut the lead to 6 if they beat the Isles today and us on Sunday....and I dont see being able to beat them w/o two of our best players.

@KevinDeLury Ugh, he just annoys me because he's just...there.  He doesnt do anything.  If BC loses in the regionals, and we can get Krieder signed and into a few games?  I'll take him over Fedotenko.  Krieder using his speed to cause havoc alone makes him more useful to the team.
