TCM's remake kept the meat hook scene,  but with a naked guy instead of the girl.  He was really muscular-  basically kinda soft core gay porn-ish.  He ends up begging his girlfriend (Jessica Biel) to finish him off,  while he's still on the hook.  She ends up stabbing him to death with a pocket knife.   That was a great horror scene.

In The Blob remake,  the blob kills children,  graphically.  That's just wrong in many ways.

I thought of another similarity to Star Wars!  Zador has his arm in a sling,  and Darth Vader also is short one arm since it was cut off when he was Anakin-  I know it's a robotic arm now and he can use it,  but it's something.

Also Richard Thomas' character on "The Waltons" (John Boy) was very wholesome and innocent.  I'm guessing he starts out that way in this movie too.
