Heather, thanks so much for your thoughtful post. I have two small children and work full time for Oxfam America, so reading your post hit me in a personal way. It's certainly hard to strike a good balance, and a lot has to do with the ability to multi-task (for me anyway). But I think the bottom line is we all work hard, whether it's to excel at your job or raise your kids right, or provide the most basic necessities for your family like food and shelter. I love IWD because it's a day that is centered around recognizing and honoring women. We should be doing it year round, but it's also nice to have a day for a critical mass to take a moment and appreciate. Thanks for your thoughts and for sharing our tools. Happy IWD!

Thank you for such a wonderful, personal and heartfelt post. It's profound what an impact mothers have on their daughters (I know my mom had such an impact on me) so it's particularly heartening to read about a mother who offers such a wonderful perspective for her own child. Thanks for raising awareness about the issues that Oxfam works on, and through this, supporting mothers everywhere.

Ken, thanks so much for your wonderful post. Perhaps at one point there was a parents guide (although I never received it when I had my two kids) because the exact same thing happened to me as a kid except it was a pack of gum I pocketed and my mom drove me back, marched me in and made me apologize to the clerk and give the pack back. Mortifying for me but what memorable lessons I learned from that!
Thanks for sharing your story, and who you honor this International Women's Day, and for raising awareness about the issues Oxfam works on and the tools we are providing!

Gini, thanks so much for your piece on our International Women's day campaign! And you brought up a really great point, that the tools we've created (ecard, pdf award, printable award) are not just for women to give to women, but for men to honor women as well. Thanks for that. I also love that you are giving the award on FB. My mom is the first person I'm giving one too as well!

And Nancy - that sounds like a really fantastic idea. If you decide to do that, I'd love to read/know about it!

This post just completely got me teary. Thank you so much for working with us, and for internalizing our mission in such a completely wonderful and personal way. My mom was actually the person I thought about honoring with the award, so I completely identify with feeling that kind of gratitude! Thanks again, you are awesome!

Thank you for such a wonderful piece! As I read it I was struck by how you expressed the very heart of what we hoped to come from this awards and the ecards. You recognizing a woman who makes a difference and discussing it in your blog will inspire others to follow your lead and take action to help women around the world! Awesome!
