Professional interviewers usually have researchers to get a bit of background information on the subjects their talking about. The one show presenters seem not to watch Doctor Who and don't have much knowledge of what it's about apart from a "wacky" show where River Song can be the Doctor because "it's Doctor Who and anything can happen". Alex Kingstons face was a picture of confusion and disbelief at the end of her interview, as was mine. I'm not saying they need to know everything about the show or the actors but a modicum of preparation would be nice. I know the One Show isn't a serious interview show but I wish the presenters would not stumble from one question to another like it had just popped into their heads.

Random doppelgangers!! Thats the thing!! There's only a finite combination of facial features available. That's why Mark kermode looks like Jesse Birdsall, and thats why I used to be a dead ringer for Keanu Reeves. Unfortunately I grew up and changed while he looks the same. Ah well.

An abzorbaloff on a roller coaster? Why, that may be my most favourite thing in the universe. Apart from looking at Halo figures whilst eating hotdogs.
The Master? Pah!! The Rani? How boring! Although, doesn't that paradise garden look quite like a Tardis interior? The pool is the console with the time rotor, there's columns and even the main entrance in the background. Think of a chameleon circuit for the inside. However, I'd rather her be a totally new character. We'll see. I've just now convinced myself that she is the Rani. Bad me. I'm now going to go to bed with no supper. That'll show me!!!

Fair point and well made. I've watched too many Paxman interviews. Thank god he doesn't dumb down to One Show levels. Do you remember the Alex Kingston interview a while back? I'm sure Alex wanted to tolchok Matt Baker in the head for being thick but she's too professional for that. 13 hours to go.

I agree. I loved Christina. What a missed opportunity. Here's hoping she makes a return. Such a good character. Wendy Padbury is super cool. No one looks better in a silver glittery catsuit.

Tish is now in Hollywood. I liked her.
Those two presenters must be the thickest people on TV. Cant wait for Saturday. All this time waiting and it's still a day away. Aaaaaarrrrrgh.

It doesn't matter. It shouldn't matter. No explanation needed at all. Don't know why they're bothering.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on Why Capaldi’s Previous Appearances Shouldn’t Really Matter
Precisely. 90 mins would have been epic.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Dawn of the New Doctor
Understand that it was the mid eighties. If you weren't there then look at popular music at the time. Look at the fashion. Look at the era in general. A dark doctor doesnt automatically mean dark clothes. I know Colin himself wanted to dress in black but it doesnt really matter. With a producer like JNT what else could it be. My only quibble was the writers. Some good, most we're questionable. God love the coat. It me it's as iconic as the long scarf. Peace.
2 weeks, 5 days ago on In Defense of Colin Baker
You may not have liked the coat, the writers or the era it was filmed. But for some of us, colin baker was the fantastic new doctor at the time. We bought the annual, we loved his new character, gone was the nice doctor, now it was time there was some edge. Baker was right started off hartnellesque but ramped up. We loved it. It was me, the show and DWM. The BBC should have given him a third season to round his doctor out. His second season showed he'd mellowed a bit. But the article is spot on. The adventures continued with Big Finish (what a ride) they are now part of the canon. They always were to me. If people are desperate for Dr Who when its not on TV give them a try they are excellent. Colin was and is a truly Massively Great Doctor. And back in the day, and now I still love the coat. God bless and long live the sixth doctor.
Feature length to me always meant 90 mins so I wish they'd stop calling it that. Extended lenght seems good
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Dawn of the New Doctor
I loved silver Nemesis. Although it takes the edge of them when you can kill them by catapulting a gold coin at them.
I'm glad it's a low key explanation. Hopefully that low key that it's a throw away line. We don't need an explanation at all. Same actor that's all.
1 month ago on Capaldi’s Familiar Face Addressed in a Low-key Way
Precisely. Now we have context. The fault I think lies with both magazines and web sites just banging out a few soundbites rather than adding a little context by showing the full question and full answer, rather than just saying "capaldi says this..." no wonder the fans leap to conclusions and make judgements. Come on websites, if youre going to bang out a quick blurb please take the time to give context.
1 month ago on Capaldi’s Doctor More Alien, Less “human-friendly”
I like the Time War Daleks. It wouldnt bother me if they stayed the same for another 9 years. Although I would incorporate the new paradigm daleks too by having the red ones as patrol commanders to the gold ones. One red paradigm drone commander to a squad of 20 gold Time War drones. The rest of the new paradigm Daleks I would have as rarely seen running things behind the scenes like the Dalek High Council of old. Remember Planet of the Daleks when the black and gold Dalek Council member turned up?. I'd like a story at some point where the blue Scientist Dalek leads an expedition backed up by 2 red commanders and 2 squads of gold drones etc. Or maybe keep a similar design to the Time War Daleks but change the colour to gun metal grey with black bits on. That would echo the classic series and give the daleks more of a tank/war machine look.
1 month ago on Time to Regenerate the Daleks?
I agree. I just hope that Capaldi isn't meaning to sound as arrogant as it's coming across.
Precisely. I'm not reading the full interview or the questions asked. I probably read it the wrong way and like I said Capaldi probably wasnt meaning to sound arrogant. It just goes to show how different an interview can be in cold print as opposed to a friendly filmed interview.
It's probably just me but every time I read what capaldi says it comes across as a bit arrogant in written form. His is the best costume, he's the most alien, no more messing I'm here type thing. He probably doesn't mean it like that and no one is looking forward to his doctor more than me. I'm maybe reading too much into it.
Yes the five doctors.
first doc: regeneration?
fifth doc: forth
first doc: goodness me so there are 5 of me now.
the beast below and matt smiths doc points at his face and mouths "eleventh"
And of course clara "youre the eleventh doctor"
Moffat knows this. It's just him being a troll again.
1 month, 1 week ago on Moffat Questions “Twelfth Doctor” Title
Yes. Why would there be a 5 year anniversary? There wouldn't thats too weird. We'll hve fingers crossed for the 10th of the new show though. Heres hoping.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Will There Be a 10th Anniversary Special for the Revival?
Eccleston? Probably not. Tennant? I think he would. Lil Matty Smith? He'd love it. Capaldi? Obviously. Hurt? No his story is done. 10th anniversary? It's a possibility. Remember people that peoples articles are opinions and not facts. My opinion is that it's got a good chance of happening. Why do people naysay when patience will tell in time. Blimey!
The 96 mcgann movie was a joint BBC/american effort and viewer wise was extremely successful. In this country it got over 9 million tuning in and got very good viewing figures in America too. From that standpoint it was a success. However, reports at the time suggested that a lot of American viewers did not get the storyline and thought it was unnecessarily complex and thats why it wasn't picked up for a series. I was there reading every scrap of text on the subject and the huge majority agreed mcgann was excellent. Those are the facts man.
I think the Cybermen and Daleks returning once a season is about right. The Daleks weren't too heavily featured in the 50th but they had to be there and fitting they were there when the Doctor was ending his regeneration cycle. I'd like a Dalek story every season and a Cybermen story every other year alternating with another classic monster, Either ice warrior's, Master, I'd lobe to see the Tractators return or the Terileptils.

I've found the state of fandom to be genuinely shocking in some quarters. I often wonder if some fans should actually be fans as they seem to despise the show. I don't know why they watch at all. It is true that it's a small vocal minority and all the nice ones don't often comment at all. I think we should make more of an effort to spread joy.
I reckon the Monk is back.
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Series 8 Filming: Smaller on the Outside
Bring it back in years to come but leave it undetectable to other races. There's no need for them to start another time war and im sure they've learned a valuable lesson. Let them go back to observing and non-intervention. We could just see them occasionally when a story is good enough to feature them and like the classic series did, have them pop up every once in a while. Now there's nothing wrong with that.
2 months, 3 weeks ago on Why Bringing Back Gallifrey is Wrong
I was 12 when I watched season 22 and loved it. I'll always love those stories and colins performance and Doctor. Nothing post ironic about that. Just fond childhood memories and I'll always love it. Coat and all. It wasn't colourful to appeal to kids, it was the mid eighties. Everything looked like a rainbow had been sick on it. Just watch music videos from that time. Its the era it was filmed in. Since the revival its been one drab suit after another. Can't wait for Capaldi but boring blue suit. However sharp, there's not much imagination there........ 80's Cybermen!!!!!! The best!!!!!

I agree totally. Whilst most fans adhere to the rules and to good manners, some people seem to relish in what is ultimately bullying with the protection of an anonymous user name. These people need to ask themselves is it really in the spirit of the Doctor or the morals and messages of the show itself? Because I don't think it is.

They got married. Fine. I watched it. I accepted it. I smiled. I moved on. That's all the thought I put into it. Occasionally I have time on my hands but bloody hell. For people to come up with racist connotations based on that is beyond me.

I think its just a couple of explosions really. Too soon to change the set. Besides, if there was a new console room someone would have leaked a picture or there'd be a rumour or a brief hastily removed twitter comment from a cleaner or someone.

Yes. I too like helen raynors stuff and she and her peers from the RTD era should come back. Straxx is good but moffat has almost destroyed the sontarans through comedy. I love the manhattan/evolution dalek two parter as it was full of great original idea's and believe it comes in for too much criticism from holier than thou tosspots.

4 months ago on 10 Misused Actors in Doctor Who
It seems like its just you and I that appreciates Love and Monsters. The rest are just plain wrong.
Mark Warren was excellent in Love and Monsters. I found his character as a simple, honest(ish), everyman who was charming, non-complicated, bloke down the pub feel and wonderfully different from the usual Dr Who character. The scene near the end when he realises what happened to his mam, shot with the young Elton waving goodbye to her still chokes me to watch even now. Even just thinking about it makes me emotional, and I'm a big gruff 41 year old. It's a testament to Mark Warrens acting skill. He's very underrated and its a very unpopular story. However, I like it. Its portrayal of Dr who fans meeting up in a basement every week/month I think is affectionate and funny. As in the mid nineties myself and a few other mismatched and lonely people used to meet in a spare room of the town library and talk about the Doctor. This story will always be close to my heart because of it. (None of us ended up on Peter Kayes arse cheek though. Thankfully). Maybe some people hate the story because of that. In fact I'm going to watch it again right now.
Why doesn't some company animate some of the best Big Finish audios? They would reach a wider audience if they were visual.
