Good list. But surely the one who we all want back who has been underused so far is Paul McGann?

It's fair to say that both RTD and Moffat have been more concerned with making both the Daleks and the Cybermen look cool first and worry about their impact second. They have been in a number of stories that fail to deliver. The Daleks need the silent gliding mistique like the corridors in Genesis. They need the harsh brutalitity and kill on sight. They need the pulsing noise more often and they need to get rid of those big blinkers that look ott and go back to the Morris minor indicators instead.

How can it anything less than Midnight? Nothing has come close to the quality of that episode since. It was exceptional and the performances were amazing.

The girl in the fireplace wins hands down.

Series 5 was a huge let down for the simple fact that we had to wait so long for it to happen. After following the final Tennant episodes it looked average and sometimes low production values were obvious.
It was a relief to see the standards rise during series 6 and when 7 was broadcast it felt as slick as the RTD period again.

Under achieved. This episode tried to do a 2 hr story in 1 hr.

Like it, but spoiled by of all things, some clunky writing for Warner. Vienna? No one was that into it?

The very best I have seen Who since 2005

A reset button? C'mon? This is as far down as I have seen the modern era who go. Why not kill off a major character and then have them appear in shower later on?
Give me strength!
Series 7 is brilliant...this stops it short of greatness.

Absolutely loved this episode. It was creepy and felt like an old hammer horror.

Atmospheric but ultimately a hotch-potch of ideas which didn't feel cohesive.

Oh yes and extra points for the end of the Ponds!! At last!

8- scarrrrrreeeeed me!
This episode is part of what makes series 7 as good as it is. The presence of David Bradly as Solomon is brilliant and his menace makes my skin crawl.

Don't remind me. It's all too silly.

Talks to babies. Oh my god. Could the doctor get any more puerile and ridiculous? Series 6 is better than 5 with the exception of this story. And James Corden ? How does someone like him get acting work when there's thousands of talented people out there.
Only 5... Far too much Amy Pond. Roll on the angels to take her from us..

Strax is undoubtably one of, if not the best thing from Moffat. He realised that the sontarans were no longer threatening and found gold in their comic appearance.
I wish he had his own series....

The police officer stripper-gram costume was not moffat's idea?
To be fair all the girls in doctor who have been written lately to provide a flirty spark towards the doctor and as such they are mostly a bit disappointing. Tate was the best yet because that was not added. But of course Donna was RTD not Moffat.

Worth 9 not least for giving us the Vastra, Jenny, Strax team. And here they shine. Moffat's greatest contribution to Who . Hands down. Roll on Crimson horror for my 10...

Those are examples of the way the show has been heading under Moffat. I thought the mystery of the tardis from the last 50 years has been built up well so we feel we only have seen enough to have more questions. I'm happy for it to stay like that. As I am with the whole
Time lord regeneration energy and what it can do . And I don't need books in the tardis with the doctors real name. It all adds up to a barrage of explanations and Who was never about that.

Not sure I want the Tardis demystified by putting it into a woman and then revealing her personality in the way this episode does. Quite why the writers of modern who feel the need to reveal everything is beyond me. Leave some things as they are.
Regeneration-the tardis-the doctors real name. I don't have to know.
My first 10.. Just for the pirates.

One of the major flaws with this episode, and let me say I do like this story...
Is the use of the sonic. So many of the Smith era and the Tennant one too are dominated by the almost constant use of the sonic. It's starting to drive me crazy. Is there nothing the sonic can't do and if so then we will know how every single story will play out for years to come.
1 year, 1 month ago on Best of Matt Smith: A Christmas Carol & Series 5 Recap
I liked this a lot because it was low on Amy and Rory. Which improved it.
I like to think that something as epic as this finale has all its ideas neatly wrapped up but there are plot holes you could drive a bus through. Not least because in turn left there are catastrophic events that happen because the doctor didn't exist but in this story, nothing! Not an issue for when the cybermen and the daleks invaded..
1 year, 1 month ago on Best of Matt Smith: The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang
But who organises the alliance? I mean who would start that. Then how is it the Silurians have space travel?
They turned on the allies when they had achieved their ends. They only have one objective, their own. I found it hard to believe they would cooperate. It's a difficult 'bootstrap paradox' which I find a cop out to say that a man with a time machine travels back in time to give himself a time machine.
Am I the only one who thinks the premise of this story is tripe? There's a lot wrong with it not least that the Daleks would not just sit participate with the others? This makes no sense to their established traits. The get out of the pandorica is such a messy paradox that infuriates.
I thought this was a poor finale but so many of them have been. The poorest season so far and the end justifies that.
Has potential as a creepy episode but falls down by the poorly realised Silurian revamp which is too human. 7 at best for this.
