I'm starting to think that it wouldn't be worth it at the end of this series for DWTV to do a poll as to who the best writer was this season. I feel the results would just be embarrassing...

I have to go back through other episodes, but these two are definitely in my top 5. I went with flatline, but it doesn't win by much.

I'd like to clear something up about the sonic. It clearly was not the thing that saved the day. When I agree that it can be a "magic wand" at times, this was clearly not the case here. When the doctor flew his TARDIS to normal size, there was a giant green glow keeping the boneless at bay coming specifically from the TARDIS. When he used the sonic, it looked like that green forcefield like thing was manipulated and sent them on their way. I'm assuming that the doctor set something up inside the TARDIS once he had enough power, and simply used the sonic to activate it, which is within the functionality of the sonic. It wasn't satisfying, but it wasn't because of the sonic.

@Ollie Walton Harrod It depends on how far away one is from a black hole. You can't go past the event horizon, but as long as you are going very fast, and have not reached the event horizon, then you are fine.

A lot of people are talking about Clara lying, and I'm not sure she lied at all to be honest (other than with Maisie). Danny said that she should come back and talk to him about it once she has cooled down. This means that they had a conversation, or many conversations (since it had been a couple of weeks) so who knows what they agreed upon. It's possible they agreed that she should still travel with him as long as she makes sure that he is a good man. I do think that this will be touched on later, but is far too early to say that she is lying to both of them.

On rewatch, there is something niggling me about Perkins. It could just be me being superstitious or something, but a lot of his mannerisms and random things he says, sound an awful lot like the Master. He seems VERY intelligent for a chief engineer, he seems to kind of be toying with the Doctor, and even though he "doesn't know how the TARDIS works" he still says that there is something wrong and that he knows how to fix it. My suspicion is that we may see Perkins again and that he is either the Master or Gus.

@SunEzer @BLINKANDYOUREDEAD I personally really liked it, but if you asked another day mummy on the orient express might switch with it. It's not like I necessarily think it is the best ever episode, but so far it is the best of series 8 in my opinion (but the others (minus time heist, into the dalek, and kill the moon) are very close behind, with those last three a little ways off from great.

2. Mummy on the Orient Express

4. The Caretaker

5. Robot of Sherwood

6. Time Heist

In the situation we didn't know the real consequences of letting the creature hatch. I agree with what a lot of people are saying about 7 billion lives is greater than one life. However what we did not know is whether those 7 billion lives were really in danger. What I don't believe in is death as a not last possible resort option. Since we didn't know all of the people down below would die, I would have let the creature live and see what happens, and then possibly kill it if it were a fact that other people would die. So lights on. As a random point, the increased mass in the moon was causing large tidal waves, and my first thought was actually the entire earth losing power due to extreme conditions on the planet. Did this cross anyone else's minds, because I don't think it would have been that clear cut.

Secret 1 is exoparasite hashed with md5. You should be able to find the same thing for secret 2, but something is different because the hash doesn't exist either forwards or backwards.

Converting secrets one and two from hexadecimal to decimal gives 57679378835993932467352208877774744499 and 927481869831728914106304116409498809941121325824 respectively. These can both be split up into groups of two, which I think can then be used with the passcode luna in a gronsfeld cipher. However, I don't know too much about this cipher and am having trouble getting it to decode online, so maybe someone could help???

I think that the monster the Doctor was looking for existed, but not that it necessarily featured in the episode. What I mean by this is that the idea that something is soooo good at hiding, it has perfected it, and thus is never seen. Even some type of symbiotic organism that lives off of every organism and in a way, can be someone to talk to when alone. This reminds me of the whole idea of a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. It kind of links in with the whole "heaven" theme this series. There might be more importance in this episode than at first glance. No matter how one describes the monster, it sounds like it should exist, which is what the Doctor was getting at, and by probability, it should exist. However, if it were to exist, I don't think it would "hide" under a bed-cover, when they can all clearly see it. If it is so good at hiding, than it should be able to find a better hiding spot than that. By the same strain of logic, the organism should not be at the end of the universe when everything is dead, because it lived (assuming my premise) in symbiosis with other beings. Therefore, I don't think that this creature actually appeared in this episode, but I think that it exists at the very least in the Whoniverse. So yes and no.

I understand where people are coming from, but I don't think it is really the accent. It's probably more the speed with the accent that makes it difficult. I'm not having this problem however, probably because I speak too quickly most of the time and people don't always catch everything I say, and I have a pretty standard American accent. Anyway, Capaldi should keep the accent (also it would be weird if he had a scottish accent in one episode and the next week he just switched accents.)

@Kathrin Lily Franke @BLINKANDYOUREDEAD That's my point. He gave the Dalek a chance to see good, but all it saw was evil and hatred, certainly defining for both the Doctor and the Daleks. Also in Asylum of the Daleks, isn't there somewhere, like a central location, that houses all of the knowledge of the Daleks, so shouldn't it be that when the Doctor convinced that one Dalek, that knowledge should have been entered into that big database? Or would it be that all of that knowledge would be suppressed?

Is it bad that the saddest moment I've seen in Doctor Who for a long time was the dalek only seeing the evil in the Doctor, and then destroying the other daleks? It, for me, was sadder than the death of the Ponds, or any other "sad" scenes. I think it was a beautifully done scene because it makes you feel like there is no hope for the daleks.

One thing I've noticed is that these episodes don't feel as rushed as last season. Also, so far, the Doctor is using his sonic very much as a background tool, rather than a very useful plot device, which is nice

@TaelorMyrie People do lots of things in all sorts of shows geared towards children that is explicitly against the views of religious individuals, so why bring up specifically homosexuality? If parents can't tell their children about their beliefs about different ideas and things people do in society, then either they have to let the media educate them, or they can shelter their kids and not let them watch any television. Either way, it's not really the shows' loss.

He didn't want the Time Lords back mainly because it would also bring back the Daleks. The Daleks vs the Time Lords was what he was afraid of. But now, he can save only the Time Lords. Think about when the Master dies in New-Who (the first time). The Doctor wants him to live and to regenerate, even though they have been enemies for centuries. Why? Because it is his own people, and the Doctor believes that he can get them under control. He believes that he can deal with the Time Lords, and more times than not he can deal with the Daleks, what he has a problem with is dealing with both, which, for right now, is unlikely to happen because only he knows that Gallifrey is still out there.

Happy Birthday!! I have to say two of the best people to work on the show, and I really hope that Jenna stays on for a good while longer. She is a brilliant actress and reflects that in her acting across from Matt Smith, and I am sure that it will continue when across from Peter Capaldi. Also, Russell, when I watched when you were running the show, I did not pay attention to who wrote which episode, but now, looking back, I really appreciate the writing and the way that you brought Doctor Who back to our screens. So Happy Birthday to both of you and your commitment to the show!!!

I for one LOVED planet of the dead simply because it was where the alien race wasn't really defeated just moved. I really hate how the Doctor has a bias towards humans, and I love when he treats the alien as equally. Also the ray like things are so cool. The script might not be as epic or wonderful or exciting as a regular episode, but it doesn't have to be to be a great insight into the world of Doctor Who, where we only see the parts of his life that make for good television. Christina would have made an excellent companion because, instead of having a companion to see the universe with new eyes, he would have to train Christina to still love adventure, but without crime. It probably would have prevented waters of mars.

The problem is that blink is the first episode that really got me into doctor who. I love the episode, and it is one of my favorites (along with midnight and planet of the dead, utopia, and waters of mars) of Tennants era. Vincent and the Doctor is one of my favorites (along with Asylum of the Daleks, rings of Akhaten and eleventh hour and snowmen) of Smiths era. I even dressed up as Vincent van Gogh once (cause he is the greatest artist of all time. The question is really whose best episode is better, and it's torturous!!!
