@Regenerated Catterson Rings of Akhaten wasn't even in the bottom category for the Best Smith stories on DWTV, so who knows what was going on there :(

@Romanadvoratrelundar @Oncoming_Badger Understandable, I suppose it's not up at the very top of my list because I felt it didn't meet my expectations but was really just a good story (Mainly cause of the lack of Classics, but also due to what I felt was just a basic Zygon subplot when I was much more interested in the Gallifrey stuff). Perhaps spectacular and memorable and it's understandable that it got that high cause everybody gave it a good ranking. But still read my comment in response to Seaborn. P.S. Just so everyone knows I still love Day of the Doctor and give it like a solid 9/10, sorry if it sounds like I'm bagging it out, it's just not my definition of a classic or perfect.
@Seaborn W Deadman Yeah it was fun and all, but Doctor Who at its best isn't just a pool of all the history of Doctor Who. It's the episode that create the history of Doctor Who. The well written stories that could be a movie in their own right. People keep asking why Blink is up there, it's not in my top 10 but it's easily understandable it creates it's own legacy as a punchy and original well-crafted story with a monster that has gone down in history. The Caves of Androzani is up there because it went from your Monday Night monster special to a terrifically shot Dark Sci-Fi story with stunning actors and a killer shakespearean style script. I'll say again Day of the Doctor is a fantastically fun story, but it's not Doctor Who at it's finest or what has created the legacy to such a monumental show.
@Malohkeh @Oncoming_Badger Ok Hype is the right word for Day, but you know it's just the more recently something aired the more extreme the opinion is on an episode. You know it kind of takes some time to see whether a few years later you still think an episode is that great or that bad and I think that over time both of those stories will have their positions change a fair bit.
I feel some of these 2013 episodes are going to be an inaccurate ranking as a result of episode hype still hanging. People will realize Rings of Akhaten is better over time and Day of the Doctor is great but it doesn't deserve #1, is it honestly the best episode of all time just cause it's the 50th? Shouldn't it be a story that was just part of its season that triumphed and showed the skill of an average Doctor Who episode? Interesting results but I don't believe it should be up there.
I'm sorry, but that's the reason there is still distance between me and the 50th. I sometimes ask myself why do I get so mad when people rave about day of the doctor? It's such a good episode! But I remember that, that was the chance to bring back 4-8 it honestly wouldn't have been as hard as moff said and we missed that chance and there's a part of me that will never get over that.

I really love Cold War stylistically, I think it triumphs in that area these excellent wet dripping claustrophobic corridors with light sirens in the background, it's very tense and beautiful. But Dalek is a stronger episode for the narrative style, the sheer unstoppable power of the Dalek and One of Eccleston's strongest performances.

While I'm happy that Day won, I don't have much respect for the BAFTAs in general the film ones snub a lot of terrific films including her which got no nominations at the BAFTAs this year and the TV ones are worse only nominated the cruddy soaps and never even giving a BAFTA to Matt Smith is a joke. Congrats to Who, but you deserve better than the snobby BAFTAs
2 months ago on 2014 BAFTA Television Awards: Day Triumphs!
Doctor Who wouldn't be Doctor Who without that theme tune, if you took it away it would be a stab in the back and a very slow death to a monumental show. I'm sorry but there's no way it would ever work, no matter what you made.

As brilliant as one part story can be I feel like we don't get the same cinematicly crafted and perfectly timed stories like we do in Empty Child, Parting of the Ways, Impossible Planet, Human Nature, Time of Angels, etc. I'm very much looking forward to a two parter, especially if it's the finale, The Wedding of River Song and Name of the Doctor are the two weakest finales cause they only go for 50 minutes IMO

I'm not all for the constant reuse of villains... The only two id like to see again are the beast and the dream lord, and I think the beast is such a powerful enemy any more uses than the one story he was in would ruin him. Sometimes it's good to just preserve a classic.

I think the best way to do a Doctor Who movie would be to kick off a new era. Say in 5 years Capaldi steps down and Moffat steps down at the same time. You have a new show runner, new doctor, new everyone, and you do a year long break before doing a big blockbuster movie that opens the new series. That would be the dream...

Easily A Christmas Carol, sorry but a 50th with no Classics and a crap Zygon subplot, regardless of how good it still is, doesn't stand a chance for me against a brilliant fairytale come to life, just the cinematography, production design and visuals for the whole episode are stunning and plays a clever twist on the Christmas Carol with Michael Gambon owning the stage.

The Trenzalore one does still make me scratch my head, but I have my own sort of answer for TATM. So much of Amy's Story is the Doctor sadly accepting that she'll chose Rory over him and TATM was finally saying he can't ignore it anymore she chooses him so he probably did work out how he could go get her, but he realized sadly that maybe it was time to let her get on with life.

The Impossible Planet easily. Matt Jones two parter is one of the most brilliant Doctor Who stories in it's entire history to date there is nothing like it. It threw the Doctor and Rose way out of their depths into a world far away from home and you kind of felt the intense space the enormous gravity in the danger of space travel and the absolutely bone chilling use of the devil as the enemy, not to mention this is Murray Gold at his finest as 'The Impossible Planet' is a hauntingly beautiful piece. The whole story is beautifully crafted to challenge not only the TARDIS crew but also the viewers and give a really engulfing image of what space travel is really like it is absolutely one of the best pieces of television I've ever seen in my life.
1. The Impossible Planet
2. Father's Day
3. Cold War
4. The Hungry Earth
5. Human Nature
6. Silence in the Library
7. Let's Kill Hitler
Straight out, 42 is one of the best episodes ever because it felt so of it's time like a proper scary action space blockbuster confined into 42 minutes. We don't even have time to get to know the crew everything we learn is extremely under pressure and on the clock even the Doctor is terrified and the scenes where he goes to save Martha or is possessed leave you gripping your seat when your half way standing up. Then the idea that the sun is sentient and in pain from being scooped out. Possibly one of not only the best Who episodes ever but one of the most underrated who episodes ever.

I've already thought that concept through completely. Some random villain the Dreamlord for example has taken control of the Doctors mind so he is inside his own mind but has no recollection of his life and so he needs to reclaim his memories by going through various episodes in the form of Kingdom hearts style worlds and like fighting the heartless he fights memory bugs which are sort of infestation in his own mind so you can fight but not really kill anyone and that way you can completely interact with all the Doctors past too, companions and all.

I really liked the whole setting and all and was really excited for it, but I was let down because of how kind of messy the whole internet talk was, it just kind of showed a lack of research into that topic area on Moffat's behalf. The spoonheads were kind of lame and yeah just overall some of the technical jargon is a bit kind of unrealistic like Clara in the year 2013 has no idea how to use the internet, they presume she wouldn't know what Twitter is, when everyone knows what Twitter is and lots of little things like that.

As much as I liked this episode, a part of me still holds it in contempt for not feeling like a 50th, with only 3 doctors one of which had never been seen before. It felt like a wasted opportunity to finally have them all together and it was thrown away because Moffat hated that they'd grown old. We could have had companions and everything but instead we got the rubbish Zygon subplot which felt like just an ordinary story. The gallo fret bits were the redeeming parts of the story. As a story on its own it's fab, as a 50th it's decent at best.

@Gustaff I want a Doctor Who game in the style of Kingdom Hearts where you kind of travel through different past adventures in the form of worlds, and if you have the enemy be like Time Distortions or Memory Bugs of some sort it gives the Doctor a reason to actually fight them and make some interesting gameplay.

I think we also need to keep in mind that Danny isn't really a companion yet as we know, we've only heard the words Recurring Character. Which was essentially what Mickey or Wilf were like before they travelled in the TARDIS. I think personally he might have a secret identity. Like how Capaldi has been previous faces in the whoniverse, perhaps Danny is a face and a timelord will end up becoming that face, such as the Master. Just a thought...

I don't mind what kind of character they make him, just please don't make him Clara's new love interest. It's really demeaning for her to just jump on to a new guy as soon as the young Doctor regenerates into an old one and I think we're all a bit sick of Who Love Triangles.

@JJ2000 @DasManiacI think personally just giving the show a new style and a kick up the backside will hopefully provoke a different writing style in all of theme. Because all of those writers have written good stories before in either Doctor Who or Sherlock they just need to get out of the silly romp about for 45 minutes format end with Deus-Ex Machina format that's been going on. Steven Moffat with his most recent episodes looks to be pulling it back on track, so lets hope he really does for Capaldi.

I think all these actors would sort of fit together as Time Lords.
Nicholas Hoult - He would make a brilliant Doctor
Joe Dempsie - Some kind of baddie not sure what.
Harry Lloyd or Joe Gilgun - The Master: Harry has already been in Human Nature/Family of Blood but he would make a brilliant Master none the less
Juno Temple - They could give River some new regenerations and give some new life into her character, Juno would do that perfectly.
My No. 1 on the Wishlist - Natalie Dormer as The Rani, you look at her and you just go YES. She is such a talented actress and absolutely has the look about her.

I can't not get the hate for this episode at all. It's a pirate episode, it's dark, it's full of fantastic lines, the characters are great and I love the way the plot works out and the twists on it. 8/10 easily.

Some really good bits and shocking moments but the cliffhanger was a massive let down for me. 6/10

This episode has great comedy moments throughout, but not much great else. I wouldn't vet thought of it too bad, but considering the standards set by the previous five episodes I have to give it a 5/10

10/10, 2nd best Matt story. It's so hugely cinematic, it's full of twists and turns, it feels as if there is proper danger, Matt and Amy are on top form in the first ever story they filmed! And to top it off one of the best cliffhangers of all time.

Don't get me wrong because I love watching Classic Who, if we start whipping out stories like Caves of Androzani then I'll be over he moon, but the new series came in and kept the elements that made Doctor Who great and chucked out the ones that slowed it down (emotionless characters, screamers, slow droning stories, silly monsters) If we get a mix of the gothic Tom Baker era or the UNIT days mixed with the brilliant writing, characters and design of the new series it could be brilliant, I'm just cautious as to what they're gonna do...
