I agree, I've never really liked the more moody Ace from the NAs, I'd have preferred it if Big Finish just didn't worry about making it in the style of the books to the letter, and instead worried about making a cracking 7th Doctor/Ace/Benny story.

Paul's gotten a little deeper since 1996, but strangely it must've happened shortly after as it's the same from Storm Warning - Eyes of the Master.

I'm going to go ahead and say something controversial, but i believe it's the best one in the show's history, topping even Tomb of the Cybermen and my second favourite, the Tenth Planet.

I remember being a terrified 8 year old seeing all of those Cybermen waking up in the tunnels beneath the factory. That entire episode  was scary, tense and exciting no matter how many times I watched it. The only episode I found scarier than AoS was The Empty Child, which I refused to watch until I was 9 or 10. For me, it's the ultimate Cyberman story, I was and still am incredibly frightened and fascinated by the general concept of them.

I found that and the clock a bit too akin to the more cartoony perception of time travel, with the clock bit looking lifted out of one of those old 60s cartoons in which that'd actually be their equivalent of the time vortex. And as for the theme arrangement, it's a little screechy, but it's far more traditional than the 2005-2013 ones.

The fact that he christened him the "War Doctor" shows that screwing up the numbering was unintentional, merely a side effect of his concept. :)

They didn't call each other Ten or Eleven either. "The War Doctor" isn't an in universe term, it was introduced by Moffat and the merchandising team, etc. as not to screw up the numbering, but some people still insist on pushing the numbers up a point. I really shouldn't have to see people leaving comments with poor grammar on youtube saying; "Hes not the 11th doctor he is the 13th doctor, get it rite," when the BBC upload clips labeling him as the Eleventh Doctor, and nor do I need to see all the old McGann regeneration mock ups being called "fake" and "wrong" by people who don't even bother looking at the upload date. In other words, CAN WE ALL JUST PLEASE JUST LEAVE THE NUMBERING ALONE? John Hurt was even credited as "the Warrior" in Night of the Doctor, so if there is still any discrepancy, there's your answer. (Also this isn't directed at you, I'm pointing it out in general! Sorry, I sort of saw the opportunity to speak my thoughts and took it! :P

I like to believe that the Shalka Doctor is the Doctor's true 9th incarnation, if he hadn't crashed on the planet Karn and chosen his next body via the elixir, changing the course of the war. In the DWM article on Shalka it was implied that the Time Lords had been fighting in a war and had retreated into the Matrix, which would have been the original outcome of the war had the Doctor not become the War Doctor.

Initially I was against it for a multitude of reasons, mainly due to the fact that it would likely be for the sake of it rather than because a woman who had genuinely won over the producers. Since then, I've listened to the Exiles, and while it may not be the best Big Finish has ever put out, it proves that a female Doctor will definitely work in the future, but it would need to be handled precisely and correctly. Besides, if Thor can become a woman for no reason whatsoever, I'm sure a Time Lord with the ability to change genders surely can!

It's always great having PKS aboard this site, we consistently get to read interesting interviews that are often better than the ones you'd need to buy DWM for. If I wasn't already getting this, I certainly would be now simply from George Mann's enthusiasm for the project!

Watch Planet of the Spiders. Basically without spoiling too much, the Fourth Doctor's regeneration is a blotched version of one featured in the story in question.

Actually, in a deleted scene from Night of the Doctor, Eight was visited by an apparition of the "Obese Orderly" as you so put it, who upon regeneration said to him; "Morgue Jesus-y Man, goodnight." Before disappearing. The scene then cut to the "Is it done?" line as we all know & love. Similarly, Adric's part in Five's regeneration featured a larger cameo from Mather Waterhouse, whose own line was; "Cricket-y Man, goodnight." This was another of Moffat's more obscure tributes during the 50th Anniversary year.

Oh, BBC. Why would you do this? Last time it was a 3D 50th Anniversary extravaganza with a Doctor who would certainly bring in the fans delving into the Time War. That one was a box office hit in a night, but that doesn't mean that every slightly special occasion will do the same! But of course, I would happily love to be proven wrong come August 23rd...

I agree, we need the Doctor to run into more obstacles where using the sonic is just not possible, or if it can be used to solve a problem, is out of reach and the resolution is in finding it. Also, BTW good luck with that Divergent Universe thing, I was stuck on Bortresoye for three of those loops!

Whenever I hear exclusively NuWhovians wanting a completely original theme for the "next 50 years"on Youtube I realise that I would rather have the show end once again. It's one of those things that you just can't change. It's like the Police Box, the Daleks and the Cybermen, the Doctor's fundamental character, etc. Without it, it would somehow almost stop feeling like Doctor Who! Can you imagine JJ Abrams asking John Williams to completely redo the Star Wars theme? I love all of the iterations of the theme, especially the somewhat controversial Glynn, McCulloch and Murry Gold's most recent 2010 and 2013 versions.
