Time travelling fruit, not a vegetable.
A brilliant sequence, I must say. Perfect for Peter Capaldi and perfect for series 8, and it couldn't have been made by a more humble person!

I'm now imagining Political Campaigns being axed due to low viewership, and a new X-Factor show taking it's place in which Parties battle it out and have sad, heartbreaking backstories to win sympathy.

Interestingly, in the leaked version (which I watched shortly after) Rusty was transmatted to the Dalek ship and destroyed it, using a combination between stock footage from Dalek (the self destruct sequence) and a green screen (obviously a stand in). I wonder why that was removed...?

Remembrance of the Daleks is probably the best of the best when it comes to making fans of the Classic series. You can't really go wrong with any 80's Dalek story, to be honest IMO.

The BBC really need to chose who they do exclusives with once and for all. We've had Wii/DS exclusives, PS3/Vita exclusives and now this. We're not made of money, as much as I'm sure we'd love to be, Auntie Beeb. :P

Hopefully, never. Have they taken action against any other mods based on franchises yet? For the most part the BBC are surprisingly lenient.
So much win in this article.

As pointed out in the episode, of course Tyrannosauruses were never that big in real life, (in reality they're no bigger than this one's head!) It looked to me like a sneaky reference to The Invasion of Dinosaurs and/or the novelisation of The Silurians, both of which feature unexplained oversized Dinosaurs. Also, to make a dramatic entrance at the beginning of a new season and a new Doctor.
Hartnell: Policeman walking in fog.
Davison: Oddly dressed bunch running from security at the Pharos Project.
Eccleston: Pan on a digital alarm clock.
Capaldi: DINOSAUR OVER VICTORIAN LONDON SPITS OUT TARDIS NEXT TO BIG BEN.
This is rivalled only by McCoy's entrance on the strangeness scale. I mean come on, TARDIS attacked by horrible laser beams uses its rainbow powers to crash land in a quarry, watched only by an oddly dressed yellow person in fancy dress who runs in a disturbing fashion, followed by a hairy, multi-eyed bat entering said TARDIS, prompting Sylvester McCoy to remove the wig of his Colin Baker costume with his magic wizard powers. "Leave the girl, it's the man I want."
Say what you want about Time and the Rani... It one heck of an entrance.

For Australian ratings Doctor Who has done insanely well, beaten only by X Factor, the various news and current affair programs that copy each other so much they heavily watermark their own stuff and a rubbish reality programme about people building houses.
Unfortunately that's what happens on a site that is such an untapped source of Whovians. I know how you feel!

I agree, I've never really liked the more moody Ace from the NAs, I'd have preferred it if Big Finish just didn't worry about making it in the style of the books to the letter, and instead worried about making a cracking 7th Doctor/Ace/Benny story.

I'm going to go ahead and say something controversial, but i believe it's the best one in the show's history, topping even Tomb of the Cybermen and my second favourite, the Tenth Planet.
I remember being a terrified 8 year old seeing all of those Cybermen waking up in the tunnels beneath the factory. That entire episode was scary, tense and exciting no matter how many times I watched it. The only episode I found scarier than AoS was The Empty Child, which I refused to watch until I was 9 or 10. For me, it's the ultimate Cyberman story, I was and still am incredibly frightened and fascinated by the general concept of them.
I found that and the clock a bit too akin to the more cartoony perception of time travel, with the clock bit looking lifted out of one of those old 60s cartoons in which that'd actually be their equivalent of the time vortex. And as for the theme arrangement, it's a little screechy, but it's far more traditional than the 2005-2013 ones.

Really? There was a period in which I was calling him "the Warrior," which I'm sure was due to his credit in NotD, but I must've been imagining things. I wonder where I got the term though...
3 weeks, 4 days ago on The Curious Case of the 9th Doctor
It had probably been waiting in the wings already.
The fact that he christened him the "War Doctor" shows that screwing up the numbering was unintentional, merely a side effect of his concept. :)
They didn't call each other Ten or Eleven either. "The War Doctor" isn't an in universe term, it was introduced by Moffat and the merchandising team, etc. as not to screw up the numbering, but some people still insist on pushing the numbers up a point. I really shouldn't have to see people leaving comments with poor grammar on youtube saying; "Hes not the 11th doctor he is the 13th doctor, get it rite," when the BBC upload clips labeling him as the Eleventh Doctor, and nor do I need to see all the old McGann regeneration mock ups being called "fake" and "wrong" by people who don't even bother looking at the upload date. In other words, CAN WE ALL JUST PLEASE JUST LEAVE THE NUMBERING ALONE? John Hurt was even credited as "the Warrior" in Night of the Doctor, so if there is still any discrepancy, there's your answer. (Also this isn't directed at you, I'm pointing it out in general! Sorry, I sort of saw the opportunity to speak my thoughts and took it! :P
I like to believe that the Shalka Doctor is the Doctor's true 9th incarnation, if he hadn't crashed on the planet Karn and chosen his next body via the elixir, changing the course of the war. In the DWM article on Shalka it was implied that the Time Lords had been fighting in a war and had retreated into the Matrix, which would have been the original outcome of the war had the Doctor not become the War Doctor.
Three Steps is one of my favourites, I'd love to see it adapted.

Initially I was against it for a multitude of reasons, mainly due to the fact that it would likely be for the sake of it rather than because a woman who had genuinely won over the producers. Since then, I've listened to the Exiles, and while it may not be the best Big Finish has ever put out, it proves that a female Doctor will definitely work in the future, but it would need to be handled precisely and correctly. Besides, if Thor can become a woman for no reason whatsoever, I'm sure a Time Lord with the ability to change genders surely can!
A king of kings...
It's always great having PKS aboard this site, we consistently get to read interesting interviews that are often better than the ones you'd need to buy DWM for. If I wasn't already getting this, I certainly would be now simply from George Mann's enthusiasm for the project!
